Maybe. I know there's a few people on BF that are keen on him, but he's 178cm, slow, isn't damaging and doesn't really have a position. I don't know what he's meant to bring to the table.

Completely different player, but to me the hype over him this year is like the hype over Ash Arrowsmith. I could never understand that one either, and sure enough he went third round in the rookie draft.
Havent heard or seen Arrowsmith. I might search him on youtube and see if theres a video but I see where your going about Banner.
If we got him, I wouldnt be too upset, but I wouldnt be overly happy.
Obviously I would like someone like Shoenmakers and so on..

Opinion on Paul Cahill please?

Or just haven't seen enough of him?
Yeah, not seen too much of him. He showed really good strength at the Dome and I scribbled a couple of notes all to do with his strength, but really it's too hard to say without seeing more of him.

Arrowsmith won BOG in the TAC Cup Grand Final last year. He got rookie listed to West Coast and is a hack.

Just out of interest VC, what do you make of Jaime Sheahan?
Plenty of X-Factor, toughness and has a bit of pace. Really inconsistent disposal though. I wouldn't mind using a third round pick on him. He could end up being a pretty exciting small forward. I don't think he projects as much else in the AFL, even though he's played in the middle a bit this year.

He has the funniest run up for a set shot I've seen for some time! Wherever he goes he'll be a bit of a cult hero.

I reckon Rendell would like him and parts of his game (and his hairstyle) remind me of Myke Cook.

Just some players I would like to see in the Adelaide colours:

The obvious ones...
Hamish Hartlett
Jack Ziebell
Steele Sidebottom
Not completly keen:
Jackson Trengove
Nick Suban
Mitch Robinson
Chris Yarran
Shaun McKernan
Nick Heyne

Later in the draft:
Here i'll just say some that we havent really talked about.. eg. we have talked about Shoenmakers and Chris Hall and not much about Mitch Banner..
So here are some I suggest:
Mitch Banner
Neville Jetta - Cyril Rioli type player..
Aaron Cornelius
Tom Rockliff
David Zaharakis: Very Keen about him

Whilst Jetta does look to have some spark, Yarran is a better pick as he has cleaner hands and take a good overhead mark, plays above his height really. But that Zaharakis does look good!!:thumbsu:

with no first hand experience I can only go by what I've heard, and with yarran it sounds like he's a bit lazy.

bot really a risk i'd like to take considering our luck with early picks. He could be like Sampi or like S.Burger...

...and with our luck it'll be Sampi

Suban isn't quick, so that does work against him. While he's not tall I wouldn't say he's undersized for the role I'd see him playing at AFL (he has Sydney written all over him...which isn't too far off Adelaide at times).

He's a real soldier and he applies himself to every contest. On top of that he's a beautiful penetrating kick of the ball.

Suban is an absolute ball magnet, with that elite left foot of his. Pace might be something that works against him, however, given the amount of times he gets his hands on the thing, I suggest he'd go somewhere between 10-20.

I want Suban. But only because I know him. So then I can finally claim I know an AFL footballer.........that plays for Adelaide........Thanks VC.

Either way, you'll be able to claim you know an AFL footballer next year. He just might not be a Crow. :p

I've looked through the names but not seen much mention of a bloke I'm really keen on drafting.
The guy is Phil Davis.
He started the season really well, played some college football (St Peter's) and was in the State U18 team (and would have been CHB). He played two reserves games for Nth Adelaide and kicked 11 goals I think.
He then did a shoulder whilst standing Trent Potential in an U18 State team practice match and didn't play again.

Had he played the season I think he would have been an early 2nd round pick. His injury should see him slide a bit.

Has anyone else seen much of him? Thoughts?

Ideal draft for me:

1 - Sidebottom or Hartlett/Ziebell if they fall
2 - Blease (probably wont be there though)
3 - Rockliff
4 - Long Term ruck prospect
5 and on...do your thing Rendell, find those Kites', Petrenko's and Cook's

Craig mentioned that amongst others, he was looking for a key defender in the draft - I just wondered if Hurley was still around at our pick 10,
would/should we select him? (of course it depends on who else is there)

- Reviews suggest that he may be rather slow off the mark and consequently i've got doubts that the faster AFL style game will suit him (or perhaps i should say is whether he is worth no 10 pick)

VicCrow - any comments welcome please

I'd definately take him if he were there.

Young prospect to give us a guy if bock or rutten go down.

reminds me of rutten with a bit more acceleration

great skils for a big fella

Craig specifically mentioned a replacement for Nathan Bassett - someone who can play on a KPP or a small forward, but if McGregor goes as expected then for team structure they could be looking at a Hurley/Lisle/Trengrove type to replace him in the balance of the list. It could be that they will look to take two defender types - someone who can play as a third tall and a more mobile 190cm approx as well as a more robust KPP.

I'd be disappointed if we looked for a certain type of player with our first pick, especially a replacement for Bassett. Best available IMO whether that be gun midfielder or gun KPP

I just have a feeling that come draft day, with MR excitement about this years talls and with NC looking to add to our defense we are going to draft Jackson Trengove with our first pick. He has all the attributes that NC loves in players, he's tall, athletic and is VERSATILE (can play ruck (not at afl level), KPB and KPF). TBH i wouldn't be too dissapointed if this was the case, he could potentially be the CHF we are craving.

Just a question for VC. One player i was surpirsed didn't get invited to draft camp was Liam Shiels (Easern). From the little i have seen, he looks like a pretty good player in the middle and absolutely loves to throw himself around. Also his disposal doesn't seem to be too bad. Was wondering why he got over looked for draft camp and what are your general thoughts on him?

Disagree - you need a 3-5 year drafting plan, where you build a side.

We wont go for Hurley - he's Bock or a Rutten, not a Bassett.

VicCrow can maybe back me up here, but I believe Hurley has all the makings of a key forward as well as a key defender and could be the power CHF we've been after, if he fell to us at 10, which is unlikely IMO, I'm sure we'd jump at the chance to have him.

i love the way people only go one way with thier ahem *analysis".

6 or 7 of the top 10 will be average or worse. we know this. we don't know who - and to be fair no one else does either.

but how about someone really prove their chops and start talking about who wont make it. that's the risk for us. turning down an established player trade for a losing lottery ticket ;)
