Thomas and Keefe

I rate keeffe, very tall, has a brilliant side step for a big man, very good skills. Which i was surprised about as his first breakthrough as a player before he did his knee he was a poor kick but a good defender. He came back as a really good kick, and a sub-par defender. Think he has potential though, very much a confidence player.
No tank.
Slow on the lead.
Defensively shocking.
Big spud.

Thomas I liked but he's not great he was a clearance King but couldn't win enough of the ball. He needed to put on some size to add a string to his small bow. I doubt he's going to come back bigger. Should've been delisted for snorting coke with Keeffe

I think keeffe can be a good addition.

He can take an intercept mark and is a nice user, plus a really good height.

He will suit a defensive style which relies on zoning, but ive never rated him as a man on man defender.

We definitely tried a zoning structure this year, but went back to man on man as the year wore on.

Most teams zone now, so we are going against the grain in this regards.

He is actually a prototype modern defender and i think can potentially be an upgrade on Brown of we go a zoning style defence. Mainly for the fact that you cant afford to have poor users of the ball down back anymore.

Big challenege ahead for him.
Forwards will tear Keeffe a new arseh*le in 2017. He's too slow and when he did his ACL he became even slower.

Back to? Lol Keeffe was never any good.
You must have missed the season before he did his knee when he was our key back due to brown and reid being injured when he took big scalps almost every week. Must have also missed the article showing he was one of the top rated defenders in one on one contests.
But hey, keep up the sensationalism

Top rated defenders in one one contests? Who is being sensational now? Calm down next you'll have him winning the Brownlow.

So you can't read either now????
I never said i thought he was top rated defender, i said there was an article which came out in last few months which using statistics had him highly rated in one on one contests.
Now its prob a small sample size because he hasn't exactly played alot of games, but was just pointing out that he wasn't exactly "never any good" like you put it.

But you carry on like you always do

Key point here is "before he did his knee"

Has never been the same since. Performed poorly then was dropped to the VFL

Oh right it was the article that rated him......

I cant work out how to post the link at the moment but the article is titled "Is this the missing piece in the pies puzzle".
Look it up if your interested, might learn something rather then just how to be a drama queen.

FWIW, I thought Keeffe showed a fair bit of promise a few years back, but then seemed to go backwards. Thomas, not so much. It will take a bit of a miracle if either of these blokes play decent football at AFL level ever again. If they're happy to go back home to Qld. and we can get something/anything in a trade for them, I'd say let's do it.

Was he the missing piece to what puzzle? How to slide down the ladder? If AFL was a game of snakes and ladders Keeffe is one the snakes on the board.

I don't. Opening game of Buckleys coaching career v Hawthorn we conceded over 120 points with Keeffe at full back. The amount of times he was smashed in that game was embarrassing. Yagmoor debuted never played again and so shouldve Keeffe. The only time Keeffe was any good was as a forward against the Suns up at the GC. He kicked 4 goals with Malthouse as coach. As a defender Keeffe was a spud.

This is the article DRIZZT referred to (it does say nice things about Keeffe!):-

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-05-14/is-this-the-missing-piece-in-the-pies-puzzle

LACHIE Keeffe has not played for Collingwood since 2014, but coach Nathan Buckley might be missing the tall defender more than he had imagined.

In 2014, Keeffe made a significant difference to the Magpies' lineup. In the 18 games he played, Collingwood allowed 82.6 points per game and won nine of those contests.

Interestingly, in the three games Keeffe was left in the VFL, the Pies conceded 97.3 points per game and lost two of those matches.

A deeper look at the numbers highlights the positive trajectory Keeffe's career was heading in and the way he fitted snugly into Buckley's side.

From 2012-14, Keeffe defended in 92 one-on-one contests and lost just 18.5 per cent of the time. That ranked him 10th in the competition of the top-100 defenders for contests defended, according to Champion Data.

In 36 matches across three seasons, Keeffe never conceded more than three goals to any opponent.

He was left in the VFL for a reason! Even Buckley knew he was shit!

The year before he did his knee was 2011.

We only lost two HA games that year and he did not play in those. Our midfield was amazing.

Reid and Tarrant played in every game he did, as did Harry O. Nick Maxwell and Leon Davis played 80% of the time he did (both rested for the Brisbane game). Heath Shaw was suspended for his gambling incident for most of his Keefe's 2011 matches...

So apart from those 5 All Australians (and Tooves and BJ) Lachie Keefe was our key back?

I don't usually side with THATSGOLD but hey keep up the revisionism...

So i got the timeframe of the knee injury wrong. Guess that makes all the other facts wrong aswell then aye.

The Yagmoor selection for that game was one of the dumbest I can ever remember us making (he did play one more game BTW). Coming up against Hawthorn made it 10 times worse, just bewildering. I still think Keeffe showed at times that he could play as a key defender, doing well up forward against Gold Coast in their early days didn't really mean much, Kyle Reimers kicked 8 against them!!

As I've already said, I'll be happy enough if both are traded this off-season, but Keeffe may be needed for KPD cover.
