Thomas and Keefe

Funny enough playhim, the messiah on here, Al Clarkson, rates Keefe highly, how do I know, I eaved dropped the angry little man at a VFL Game.

They weren't cheating, they had no idea the clem was in their party powder. And hardly duds, they'll be decent recruits and better than anything we are getting with our first live pick.
Both spuds, Keeffe was a list clogger and Thomas just another ordinary midfielder of which we have too many.
Lol, which one are you, Thomas or Keeffe? Can I expect a direct message?

I rate keeffe, very tall, has a brilliant side step for a big man, very good skills. Which i was surprised about as his first breakthrough as a player before he did his knee he was a poor kick but a good defender. He came back as a really good kick, and a sub-par defender. Think he has potential though, very much a confidence player.

Once again, 204cm defender in an era of more and more 200+cm forwards and he's the only one on the list. Which one are you? Mick Malthouse or Mark Robinson?

Have you ever watched football?
Go back and find some old Champion Data stats. A defender that never registered tackles, but specialised in shanks.
Why do people romanticise how good someone is when they haven't played for a while but can't actually remember how much of a liability he actually was?

Welcome to Collingwood C D we build them up and drop them down better than anyone!

No I'm here for the Star Trek convention, the guy has played 40 games so obviously everyone at the club disagrees with you, he's in his prime and once players get 50 games under their belt they take off, and you aint getting better than him with our first live pick anyway so he's a freebie, why would we throw away a freebie that's already proven at the level.

Yeah that's what we do, as opposed to everyone's love child the Bulldogs who will no doubt NOT win a flag with this list and sit on their 1 single flag while we losers have to put up with 15 of the damn things, we are so shit.

Are Keefe and Thomas training with the squad? I don't get to training much and was wondering if it was like the Essendon situation where the players can't do anything with the club. If they can't train how do they keep there fitness up.

They will be able to rejoin training prior to the end of their suspension but maintaining their fitness is their own responsibility.

I wasn't convinced we'd see both of these guys back at the Holden Centre, but looks like I'm wrong. From The Age:

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has touched base with suspended pair Josh Thomas and Lachie Keeffe ahead of their impending return to the AFL club.

Buckley has confirmed the Magpies remain committed to the duo who are nearing the end of two-year doping suspensions handed down last year by ASADA.

Well they won't see my membership dollars next year.
These 2 cheats effectively cost us as reasonably successful year, as well as occupying list spot that could've been given to players with better moral fibre.
Add in the fact that they're both spuds as well.
No doubt Thomas will be active again on Twitter and if I'm lucky may even get some abusive DM's from him again.
Pathetic Collingwood

It would be nice to see them get back to their best, but I fear they will be nothing more than depth players

In his last patch of games be was showing good signs as a tall defender. Better than Frost.

So they are 'spuds' but still cost us 'a reasonably successful year'.

If sniffing stuff or lacking moral fibre was a measure of keeping people on a list there would be about 10 players on each team's list.

assuming they can readjust to AFL then they will be pretty handy depth. Don't think anyone expects them to come straight back in and be best 22.

Sounds like a win win situation.

Won't somebody please think of the children?!

Swan and Williams, in different circumstances, were involved in far more questionable activities early on and yet were retained. It's just my opinion, but I take violence more seriously than illegal drug use/PED use. And we all know that drug use is widespread across the AFL. It doesn't excuse it whatsoever, but the reality is that these guys are just the ones who got caught. We all know they have teammates at Collingwood who do the same or worse.

I'm sure that the club seriously considered letting them go, much as they did with Williams after the assault case.

I agree with what Buckley said... While the club can't dismiss or ignore a single act, they also have to consider the person as a whole.

At this point they have served a pretty hefty punishment and the club even more so. Not giving them a real chance to redeem themselves after all that is cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I rated Keeffe so I hope he can come back and eventually grab a spot in defence. Thomas... It's all on him. He's a pretty tough mid so he'll have to earn it the hard way week in, week out in the VFL.

I really hope Thomas is still fit, motivated and ready to go. He used to be so highly rated by this board before he could get on the park (as is the case with many injured players) and was definitely building towards that potential before his ban.

Hopefully both he and Keeffe as well as Scharenberg can prove that 2 years out of the game is not make or break.

I'd love to see a few more games from Thomas like that GWS game...

2 years out of the game and not even training with the club has to be a concern. It's a long time out of the game.

I'm hoping they can make a successful comeback. Would they be hungrier now, knowing what they have missed out on? If both are playing at their best, I have no doubt they would be in our best 22.

The question is what has been the impact over the past 2 years.

It's interesting how harsh some opinions are because they took recreational drugs, which, I may add is very common in that age demographic. Is it right? No. It's irresponsible given they at supposedly professional afl footballers and are being paid failry well to not do those things. But no different to drinking yourself silly.

I think keeffe can be a good addition.

He can take an intercept mark and is a nice user, plus a really good height.

He will suit a defensive style which relies on zoning, but ive never rated him as a man on man defender.

We definitely tried a zoning structure this year, but went back to man on man as the year wore on.

Most teams zone now, so we are going against the grain in this regards.

He is actually a prototype modern defender and i think can potentially be an upgrade on Brown of we go a zoning style defence. Mainly for the fact that you cant afford to have poor users of the ball down back anymore.

Big challenege ahead for him.

you'd think they have a season to show they are still up to it or sayonara.
