I don't know. Thomas didn't go to bump him in the head not caring about the consequences. It's probably still reckless but out of interest do you have the AFL definition of negligent?

Definition of „negligent‟ – A player negligently commits a reportable offence if the relevant conduct constitutes a breach of the duty of care owed by the player to all other players. Each player owes a duty of care to all other players to not engage in conduct which will constitute a reportable offence being committed against that other player. In order to constitute such a breach of that duty of care, the conduct must be such that a reasonable player would not regard it as prudent in all the circumstances.

There was nothing prudent in Dale's actions.....he opted to level Ibbotson out, he was reckless.

Above the shoulders means neck and head, it doesn't include the shoulders. I still think Thomas made contact to the head but I'm not sure it was with enough force to be reportable.
Try to post picture of freeze of the video, but cant do it.

The point of Daisy's shoulder is bang on Ibbotsons face, sure Daisy's hip is in line with his chest...the simultaneous body and high contact is probably why it was graded as low impact, but none the less there is high contact.

Again I don't think Thomas should be contesting this charge. He's just as likely to get three weeks than get it reduced to one.
Exactly, if Dale had a good record he would walk away missing one game.....it is his fault he has a poor record. As Stevie Baker found out, if you have a poor record things start adding up pretty quickly.

Seems about fair.

He's only been given a week with added extra.

I was vocal against the Jones challenge at the time and it's cost him a final. Stupid decision, but the footy dept haven't fluffed too many over recent years, so they can be forgiven.

Still, it was a pretty unarguable position in the Jones case. Not sure what rush of blood made them argue it!

I don't know what the chances are of them challenging of course, but I hope they do because the penalty will be reduced if they do.

What makes you so confident that it will be reduced?

Thanks. I'm not sure the club would successfully reduce his sentence from reckless to negligent, even though I think it could be done. The MRP seem to only change their minds if it's clear to them.

As for the photo of his shoulder hitting his head, I posted a photo before from the reverse angle showing his shoulder going past his head. I'll post it again:

I still think he makes head high contact but it's not with his shoulder IMO.

It's not bloody clear at all! Why is it that so many are saying this incident is "clear?" It isn't! I don't believe he "opted to take out Ibbotson." I believe he decided to legally bump him within five metres of the footy, so therefore if the charge is reduced from reckless to negligent, and that high contact is inconclusive, then his penalty will definitely be reduced by one match.

You already have said you reckon a fair penalty would be two weeks reduced to one........that is what he was given.

It is because we stupidly challenged an earlier suspension that he has 60 points hanging over his head. And the earlier suspension gives extra loading.

If it was a clean skin who performed the exact same bump they would only cop one week.

The system is designed to impact repeat offenders more harshly, and Dale is now a repeat offender.

If he challenges it may cost him a PF....the club would be stupid to take that chance.

The reckless definition, A player recklessly commits a reportable offence if he engages in conduct that a reasonable player would realise may result in the reportable offence being committed but nevertheless proceeds with that conduct not caring whether or not that conduct will result in the commission of the reportable offence.

How could you defend a bloke who has jumped and his shoulder is now inline with a guys head?? Any reasonable player would realise that this action may result in a reportable offence.

That is the shot....how can anybody argue against high contact???

Dale is leading with his shoulder, and his shoulder is the same level as Ibbotson's head.

Pisses me off no end, as have Dale in the fantasy GFs this week too!!:(

Not sure you've taken the angle of impact into account but in the photo Thomas' shoulder has passed Ibbotson's face and his arm is driving into his shoulder. The photo shows his shoulder doesn't make contact with his head, not the other way around. It's clearer when you watch the replay in slow motion/frame by frame.

It makes no difference that he challenged the Jones hit. With the lessor carry over points & the 10% loading, he'd still finish with around 205 points and a 2 match ban.

Where it changes things is he'd get 2 weeks even if he challenged this charge and failed.

Just take the 2 and let's all move on. Pfft, with the calls of fortunate to get 2. Seriously WTF? In isolation, the hit is a one week ban maximum unless the guys doesn't get up.

Daisy's wears an extra week due to a prior charge.

Just take the two weeks and be done with it.
He might have missed the Cat game anyway with a sore finger/thumb anyway that he suffered while attempting a tackle.
Dont need him in the dead rubber against Geelong and we should have the Eagles measure in the first Final.
Its not the ideal preparation going into the finals but as the saying goes
"You do the crime, you do the time".

It was one of the most brainless acts I've seen in a long time.

Deserves what he got.

Has let the Club and his teammates down badly.

Take the two and be done with it.

The two will allow his leg and hand to heal anyway, too stupid for words.

My thoughts exactly. Indescribably stupid act given the stage in the game and finals to prepare for. Deserves what he got; Pendles would never be so stupid.

I don't think you can really defend that bump knowing what the rules are these days. It was a stupid thing to do. I'll put it down to a split second brain fade. I'm actually grateful it wasn't more. It had the potential to really affect our premiership assault. Now it is just inconvenient.

Certainly deserves to be suspended. My only gripe is that just a week earlier Beau Waters leaves an opponent bleeding from the head with a bump and gets off. The inconsistency is frustrating and means there was some hope Thomas might slip through the cracks

Agree 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% Swoop it was the Most Idioic thing I seen Daisy do. I think he Meant to get Ibbitson and Hurt Him.

Daisy deserves the 2 Weeks just for doing the Stupid Act in the 1st Place

He could consider himself lucky. Any misfortune and that bump could've laid him out for 5 minutes before being stretchered off, giving him a "high" category of impact.

So dumb, so disappointing, especially given how he has spoken about club loyalty being one-way in the past ...

Of more interest in a challenge would be the definition of intentional. When you run past the ball and jump into a player in a t-bone fashion, reckless is a good score.

The shoulder doesn't make contact with the nose, but any part of the head is head. It's about potential impact re brain rattling and /or direct impact and wiping that out. And rightly so.

On Reggies point re Waters, the impact was high, but that was a true last minute collision in a way that this is not.

Daisy was an idiot and now has to cop it.

I was hoping for negligent but that was really just wishful thinking.

I cannot see any chance of a successful defence. It will not be downgraded at the tribunal.

He owes the club for this as it was definitely a reckless and stupid act.

Did anyone see the Ziebel bump on Riewoldt - absolutely smashed into him and almost knocked him out cold - only got 3 wks for it. My first impression of it was 5-6 wks!! Thomas hardly hurt the guy and cops the same. Unbelievable the inconsistency.

Ibbotson was kicking the ball, hardly running past the contest. It was a shirtfront no doubt about it but it was in play and if it wasn't high there would be a free kick probably for a late bump, so that's the only problem with it.

I still don't think his shoulder connected with any part of his head, to me it's his bicep that hits and his arm puts most of the force into his chest. If his shoulder collected his head and cannoned into it, even the side of the head, Ibbotson wouldn't have gotten up, or at least quickly. Regardless there looks like there was high contact and considering the MRP ruled it as low impact I think they also realise this and it would be hard to overturn.

Riewoldt changed direction at the last minute, didn't look great but the North kid didn't have a lot of time, he had already decided he was going and it's pretty hard to pull out in the heat of the moment, i think the player over the ball has to be a bit more carefull in those situations, especialy when they change direction, the other kid that got pinged (cant remember club or name) didn't even bump, he just chested the guy and got 2 weeks, ****ing ridiculous the way the game's going, something needs to be done.
