Two great talents, however all I hear from Carlton supporters and people in general is Murphy, Murphy, Murphy

Dale Thomas is LARGELY forgotten on BF and personally, I rate him ahead of Murphy, notwithstanding his premature season due to injury. I think Thomas has that flair (the speccies, thrilling goals) that Murphy does not have.

In saying so I am eagerly looking forward to both their careers blossoming.

and murphy has the 30 posessions a week....dale thomas will never be the player marc murphy will be, murphy has the potential to win a brownlow...thomas doesnt, they dont give out brownlows to half forward flankers

thats the same flair that Mr R Harvey & Mr S West have had their whole career....oh wait :(

Murphy, Murphy, Murphy, Murphy, Murphy, Murphy

Thomas does have flair and is spectacular. Yet he will never be half the player Murphy is. Murphy will be like Voss/Hird. This poll is rediculous. It is like having a Lockett vs Johns. Just silly!

Could possibly be the worst poll ever. How could you compare a half decent HHF who comes in and out of games as apposed to some1 who will eventually average 25-30 possies a game????
Next please.

I agree, it really is a silly comparison. Thomas was ranked just outside th top-10 before the 2005 draft, and it was only the Pies "recruiters" that made him go as high as #2. :)

This has been done to death.....

Thomas - garden variety half forward flanker.
Murphy - a future superstar of the game who will be remembered as one of the best of his era.

That said, Murphy for me.

Thomas has the hair. Thats the only reason why he stands out.

Have you ever noticed that even in cases where Carlton draft first, and get a player that nobody else could, they STILL need to validate their own feelings by pretending that no other player ever drafted is any good?

Thomas will be a fine player, and despite popular opinion, spent most of his time playing in positions other than a HFF. He lined up primarily on the wing, and rested deeper in the forward line, usually in a pocket. He even played HBF on occasion.

He is not a massive ball-winner, but I'm not that worried about that fact, considered that he has shown match-winning potential. If you're turning a match with your possessions, it really is irrelevant how many you're getting. Besides, we drafted Scott Pendlebury knowing that he is a ball-magnet. I think you'll find in the future Pendlebury will be the player more comparable to Murphy in terms of possession count.

That all said, I did vote Murphy, as he does look the goods.

However, I find it slightly funny that after playing a good half season, people are ready to proclaim Marc Murphy a future Brownlow medallist, but they simply can't conceive of Dale Thomas being a midfielder, despite the time he spent playing as one this season.

I think Pendlebury will be a very good player. Looks like a natural midfielder, with excellent skills. Thomas, however, was a draft blunder. MM made a knee-jerk decision based on his good finals series just before the draft. :)

Thomas is ********ing good. I'd have drafted him before Murphy any day. He's got flair, a better vertical leap and mark than Murphy. Mind you, Pendlebury may be better than either of them.

Mark Murphy will be a brilliant ball magnet, while Thomas will become a handy goal kicking half forward.
I'd be taking Murphy even after seeing more of Thomas.

This thread has been dominated by Carlton posters, it would be nice to have a few unbiased views, but whats the point, you guys are worse than Hawthorn when it comes to rating your kids.

I respect that you think Murphy will be better and is better but why put down Thomas in the same breath?

Murhpy will be like Voss/Hird?? Get your hand off it mate, he's got a LONG LONG LONG way to go to be even half the ilk of Voss and Hird.

LMFAO at scott pendlebury.....what a mistake he was to take at pick 5...would've definately lasted till the 2nd round, collingwood couldve picked up a much better on-baller at pick 5...you still had the likes of nathan jones, shannon hurn and beau muston who all went after pendlebury...im sure you'll find that pendlebury wont be as good as the 3 players i've just mentioned
