Significantly is going a bit too far.

Thompson's form this year compared to last is chalk and cheese.

We've lost one of our only two A grade midfielders and number one extractor, who was amongst our best last week, and replaced him with a green as grass 2nd gamer who would blow away in a stiff breeze.

Significantly is pretty much spot on.

Thompson hasn't been fully fit all year and playing on the Etihad Dome surface may have continued to aggravate it. Not sure when Mackay and Knights are due back but if they were in the mix this week not a bad idea not to possibly aggravate their leg injuries on that surface either.

Yes, he is a loss but more important that he gets back to full fitness.

It will be a close game in my opinion but still certainly winnable.

Idiotic comment, replacing a first class, hard bodied in and under midfielder with a "green" outside receiver yet to prove he's even fit to tie Thommo's bootlaces!!!

Think before you post next time, Dangerfield will go in the middle and Armstrong will more than likely play a more defensive role from the bench. Hard bodied my arse he barely averages 2 tackles per game for his entire career.

even though Thompson has been up and down he is still a huge loss, inside midfielder, hard body and a player the opposition do fear and have to plan for

With this in mind I'm still confident that Vince, Danger, Radar, VB and Douglas can get the job done

Did you consider this might be because he is constantly the one being tagged?

He's the hunted because he gets the ball. If his roll was reversed then you'd expect a higher tackle rate.

It's difficult to lay a tackle when you're always the one at the bottom of the pack with 2 or 3 opposition players stacked on your back.

Does anyone know who is the travelling emergency?? If there is a ? on Mcleod still you would hope that sloane is the travelling emergency, I mean i know very little about Gunston but isn't he a key forward????

I think it's you that needs to think before they post, not me sport!!!

Scott Thompson 18 Brownlow votes in 2007, Adelaide's leading vote getter in both 2007, 2008, 2009 11 votes second only to Bernie Vince on 13, chosen to play for Australia in the 2008 International Series against Ireland.

Currently ranked 16th in the AFL for clearances, No. 1 for Adelaide, the only Adelaide player in the top 45!!!!

Nowhere did I make any reference to where Armstrong would likely play, my reference was clearly to the fact that Armstrong was replacing Thommo in the 22!!!!

Think before YOU post next time.

Thomson averages just under FOUR tackles per game over his whole career and FIVE tackles per game this year to go with his average 24 disposals per game this year.

Even the most limited thinking of posters should be able to see that Thomson out and Armstrong in is a weakening of the side overall.

Ten less clangers/turnovers we will win now, Thompson lost my vote in the 2007 EF.

Thompson is not an A grade midfielder.

B+ at best

people bagging Thommo are laughable. He has been brave this year even though he's clearly got OP. Watch him after games, bow legged, can barely move

I'm sick of some of our supporters laying the boot into players giving their all

As for "going off him" after 2007 EF, grow up. 1 (bad) clanger? I presume you hate Rutten too? Michael Jordan missed more game winning shots on the buzzer than anyone (made a few too) I guess he was also no good

Enough complaining

Thompson was fantastic in that game, we wouldn't have been in a winning position if it wasn't for him.

You're badly undervaluing him there. Thompson is still our #1 midfielder ahead of Vince.

If our number one midfielder isn't A grade, then may the FSM help us all.

Oh he is our best Midfielder, but he isn't A grade, which is basically the Crows biggest problem.

Yes I do and well before his 2009 SF screwup because hes a rubbish defender who got left behind by Anthony.

Correct we dont have any A grade midfielders we have average B+ grade midfielders who had/have the potential to be A grade but have woeful disposal that doesnt allow them to take the next step Reilly and Thompson are prime examples.

Thompson is our most maligned player, and it's ridiculous. I know his disposal isn't the best going around but the way our own supporters constantly bag the bloke is crazy. He's always racks up 30 touches and he always wins the hard ball, the contested ball, to feed our runners and it's what makes him so underrated. Hard bodied midfielder who tackles, excels at the stoppages and we'll see how much we miss him tonight.

Could not agree more excellent post.

Exceedingly well put. It was embarrassing watching our clearance work tonight, without our best clearance player in action.

Now some of Thommo's knockers might perhaps realise how IMPORTANT he is to our midfield, Dangerfield has a long, loooooong way to go before he is even the equal of Scotty if tonight's effort is an indication of things to come.....Adelaide must make a superhuman effort to retain Thommo for the future or we are up shit creek without a paddle!!!!!
