Thornton or Gilmore

Thornton for mine,he has the runs on the board(so to speak).
Gilmore still worries me a bit, very one sided and unless you are an exceptional player then i don't think you can afford to be one sided now days.Look at Cunningham.Still not sure Gilmore has what it takes to make it.
Thornton is going to be a gun in a few years. He is a very adequate player now.

Do you guys think Thorton will be a long term player at Freo and what posistion is he best suited to?

Just wondering because i knew hes parents, very nice people.

I have no doubt Thornton will be a long term player now, and I was one who didn't rate him much before.

Thornton is being groomed (well, it would seem) for Parker's position when he retires. And he seems like he could be very useful in that role (play tall, play small, run out of defense a bit and above all spoil well).

I think he gets unfairly judged on his poor effort v Sav, but be realistic, Thornton is a twig and Sav is a beast.

Gilmore, I like his run and his raking kick, but i'm yet to be fully impressed. Has a reputation of shirking the contest somewhat.

We need to fill up our quota of Fanta Pants' in the team, so I'd go with Thornton.

He looks like he is being groomed as a replacement for Parker, who will retire at the end of this season. He needs to add a bit of bulk after missing last preseason due to illness. At the moment is is good at rebounding, but is suspect one on one against bigger opponents.

Happy started off well last season, but with a bit of depth in the midfield this season, his position would be HBF and at the moment I would choose Grover, Thornton and Woods over him. But given a few injuries he has the pace and long kick needed to rebound from defence.

I reckon Gilmore is a super talent and could be a damaging wingmen in the future if given a chance.

If Thornton bulked up he could be a Dustin Fletcher fullback, minus the brain explosions.

I've always rated Thornton and been a big fan of his.

Gilmore

Gilmore has talent but needs to harden up.
I Like Gilmore he reminds me a bit of Grover, (i used to really like grover).
Not a big fan of thornton, he has to put on weight and become a key positoin player, that takes a key forward.
At the moment they playing for the same spot in the team, so i would pick gilmore, however if Thorton put on weight and could hold down CHB/FB then i would pick Thornton

The nature of the positions that Thornton can fill makes him more important to us, particularly with the likely retirement of Parker and a possibility of McPharlin moving forward if Polak doesn't stand up.

He's shown that he can play well in the backline and rebound strongly, but severe illness had set his development back a year (he lost an obscene amount of weight). This lack of bulk makes him suspect against the bigger forwards, but hopefully a couple of preseasons in the weights room will eventually remedy this.

Thornton is a class above Gilmore at the moment and maybe the post should have been "Gilmore or Webster".

I think the half back Line should be - Thornton, Polak, Gilmore or Webster

Huh?

Parker is still our best 'defensive' defender. No question about it. When he's fit and playing well his man barely touches the Sherrin.

Gilmore has a nice raking kick. That's about all I can say about him in comparison to Parker.

I'd pension Parker off for Gilmore.

Definitely another season in Mr Integrity.

Thornton is the heir apparent to Mr Integrity's position, with all the right build and moves, but I'm not too sure about him being a bit noisy for this illustrious position.

By the way, my big hope for the year is to see the Twig of Integrity stream down the ground and slam through a major, the celebrations will be mind blowing.

Some of the guys who watch the WAFL question Glimour's attack on the ball. But he started well last season.

Thornton is judged way too harshly for Rocca's five goals. Rocca was on the end of some quality delivery. Connolly was on 6pr after that game saying Thornton wasn't the problem. Getting walloped in the midfield was the problem.

For the record Cunningham was no sided. He had very poor disposal on his left as well that wasn;t rectified after 5 years on the list. He just never seemed to get any better.

I rate Scotty-Too-Hotty over Gilmour at this stage. But they are also different types of players. I think the real competition for Gilmour is Webster. With Webster way in front. Mark my words -- if Webster can stay fit we will be raving about him by mid-season.

No doubt, Webster has what it takes.

Shame about all those injuries, he'd be a staple in our best side if it weren't for them.

I think Mundy will also be in the mix and maybe the find for this season.
