I stand by my assertions that thornton shouldn't be in the CArlton team. He was aided by poor delivery by the St Kilda players last week. The reality is that many of his possessions are easy possessions and he is not a good user of the ball. He turns it over and cannot kick on the run. He will never be like Mackay because he is too slow. He wil never be like Sexton because he is too small and weak

thanks mate you are the only one that know the truth about this guy it all started when this guy gets beaten he has a sook to he's team mates and now he still has'nt improved 4-5 years into the system and he is still shit, my brother's are hawks supporters and say thank god we did'nt get him, until these other posters come around and stop living in hope ....
Hawthorn should be grateful they have Gilham instead of Thornton.

personal vendetta much?

re-runs of comparing him to yesteryear heros and now St Kilda's delivery...

when I see Thornton streaming through the half backline outburning opposition players and then kicking a goal, then we can call him underrated

Right now, all he does is get the easy receive and switch play

that just shows you have no idea about football... you only credit a score assist to the bloke who kicked it to the goal kicker do you?

switching play is so old hat that it should be phased out of the game you say?

The switch is one of the most potent forms of scoring goals in the AFL... the switch opens the play and Thornton is one of the best in the business! His vision is outstanding and he is skill full enough to constantly place a 50m pass/switch onto the chest on the free player so they dont have to back peddle or break stride...

you must be of french decent... constantly losing battles

That's a bit dopey. At the moment i think he is leading our club in contested possessions (or in the top few at the very least). NFI mate.

Kosi didn't get a lot of kicks to him so he was taken off whilst Thornton was still on ground, so he was assigned from the 3rd tall to a 4th tier forward player and yes he was dominating on saturday.
I wrote that before saturday's game so I am still right (as always), he hasn't beaten anyone in the last 2 years.

Look, i am very happy that he's playing the 3rd tall forward at the moment, this defence structure works really well with jamison/setenta playing as full back and Waite playing as CHF, leaving Thornton as a lose man in defence.

the point is that you do not need a highly skilled player to switch play. Heck even I could hang at the back, take a couple of bounces and square play. anyone given that task would look good - no skills required

ok u have no idea about football.. ur comment about our defence structure working really well should be left for the comedy festival.. we have conceded over 100 points in how many games straight??

IMO thornton got the 2nd forward on saturday as most people at st kilda would rate kozi higher than gehrig.. a 10 mark 3 goal game from kozi is much more damaging than the 4 gehrig kicked

How many games have we conceded over 100 points with that structure I have mentioned?? ONE!! Can you count? O'hAlphin didn't play as a defender against Richmond.

I've told you, Kosi was quiet so he was taken off, therefore Thornton had really no big names to play on.

That structure covered well cos we kept the 3 talls reasonably quiet. (G-train only 4 goals that is below his average when he play against us) When you have X Clarke and Milne kicking 3 and 4 goals respectively, you can't do much about them when you have Houlihan or Scotland playing as a defender.

korn honest question here.. do you rate jamison as a better defender than thornton??

the kid has played 6 games there is no way he can do a better job than a guy with over 100 extra games experience, 3 yrs older than him, and 5kgs heavier

before u go and say well experience counts for nothing look at nathan brown. the reason players like nathan brown come in and fit straight into a backline is because he is 10kgs heavier than jamison and his body is more ready to take these forwards on.

He's been our best player this season by a mile. He's shut down Brown and Kosi, averaging a career high in possies and has a champion data average of shitloads!!

Thornton is very lucky Lucas is injured. Over the years, Lucas has shown us what an average player Thornton is

yes because on a single off day we were restricted to only Thornton to control Lucas and Llyod... and you will find Thornton went to Llyod 9/10 times...

but look any more false information you want to throw up to defend your pot hole personal vedetta please feel free everyone can always do with a laugh!

certainly does. Leaves Thornton free to roam around and pick up easy possessions - the saliva will dripping out of your mouths; even when he coughs it up and doesn't hit targets

How did Thornton go? I couldn't watch the game for personal reasons except for the first quarter. I saw Thornton gave away 2 goals towards the end of the quarter. He stat sheet on reads 9 possessions...

it has taken three weeks for him to play a semi decent game and your on his back with knives a blazing... grow up...

Think Thronton is a very skilled player. However at times he seems to lose his discipline. Felt last night he was wasting much energy in trying to be tough. To me tough is running hard at the ball not pushing and shoving and pulling angry faces.Really needs to decide if he wants to be a consistent leader.
