Thorp would be a valuable asset to your side and be a walk up starter. This draft is weak, I would think it's a fair trade, 6 and 16 for Thorpe.
If he gets his body right you could be right on the 1st point. I've heard however it could be one of the strongest for quite some time.
He has huge wraps on him but can't get a game because we have such a good forward line. If I were Carlton I would take it, you have a one dimensional forward line with your key forward being 28 and a bloke like Thorp would not only be able to take the heat off Fev short term but he would also be a good investment for the future.. Think about it :)
I'm still sceptical about giving up pick 6 for him. I wouldn't exactly move heaven and earth to get him.
Reliable sources have said just recently that they don't believe this draft is as good as first thought... I suppose we will have to wait and see a couple of years
What sources? The same sources saying that Barry Hall will be going to Fremantle or the Western Bulldogs?
I think you're forgetting Thorp was a pick 6 (I'm sure you're not forgetting it). Really, this kid is just starting to get his body right and he will be a player worth watching. Thorp, when he gets a few games into him, will be able to do what Roughy does, even if it's 5-10 goals less, and Roughy can go down back. We will regret trading him. He recently came out and said he is more than happy to do his apprenticeship in the reserves and wait for his time to crack into the Snrs. How good an attitude was that...
Interesting point, if Thorp gets right and comes on like we've been hearing your mob say then it could be a luxury having a 70+ goalkicker a season going down back. Personally, when Roughy was playing more back than forward early on his career I liked the look of him down there. I can see why you guys picked him with pick no.2 in the draft.
I would wager he will end up better than Kennedy that left the Blues. If he goes to the Blues you guys will be luckier than you think.
I hope you're right.;) Although I've heard he's recently been re-signed.

Exact same thing happened 12 months ago to Josh Kennedy. Anything is possible.
You pressured kennedy to go so you could get judd and really left him with no choice but to go.

I think we would only entertain trading thorp if he asked to be traded. You can't trade a player in a year they have signed a new deal unless they agree to it.

He was playing on the wing at box hill towards the end of the season and was doing quite well. Maybe they will try and fit him into that position next year.

Don't forget both thorp and dowler have had pretty significant injuries and are probably only just coming good from those. I don't think thorp has had a preseason yet and dowler maybe has had only 1.

Personally i won't be happy if we trade either of them. The wraps the club have on thorp are pretty big so i would be very surprised if he goes.
Any thoughts of you blokes playing Dowler at FF for Box Hill. I mean he did play all his junior fooy there and I haven't seen him play out of the goal square in the VFL once, mind you I haven't seen heaps of Box Hill as they don't seem to get on the VFl telecasts much. Every time I've seen him he's been CHB, Wing or very high CHF.

If we happen to pick up a few of the guys that are up for grabs our starting line could be
Backs = Dowler Jamison Bower

H/Backs = Wait Austin Farron Ray

Centers = Stanton Kerr Del Santo

H/Forwards = O Keefe Kosinski Thorp

Forwards = Wozincski Fevola Gibbs

Rucks = Warnock Judd Scott West
Inter = Murphy Kruiser Jeff White Ben Cousins

had to leave a few fairly handy players out but no good getting these guys and not given them a game i reckon:) cheers

Dont realy care about the spelling as long as i dont have to yell it out at games with terms like, you star i will be fine, that OK with you CHAMP:cool:
"Don't really care about the spelling, as long as I don't have to yell it out at games with terms like 'you star', I will be fine. Is that OK with you champ?"

That's what I interpreted it as, anyway. If so, it's perfectly fine by me. Though I've no idea where you got the "inski" from.

Hawthorn would have to be idiots to let go of either of them. Dowler was dominating at Box Hill towards the end of the year, Thorp is yet to complete a pre-season. We drafted them both with high picks because we wanted KPP depth, something we severely lacked for a long time.

The fact is, most KPP take at least 4 years to find their footing and develop into an effective player (Buddy and Roughy are exceptions to the rule). Dowler will be going into his 4th this year and Thorp into his 3rd so it wouldn't be smart to trade them if they're both happy slugging it out down at Box Hill.

If they can't make the team by 2011, they're all yours

Geez, you got that from your sister :)

But I dont think that we are going to be giving up our first round pick for anyone this year.
Not exactly mate, Mitch has been a friend of mine for many years.

I don't care whether you beleive me or not,the Hawthorn board posters know my relationship with Mitch.

Take it as you may, but Mitch ain't going anywhere.

look i know im going to get roasted by a lot of people for asking this..

but what is so good about thorpe and dowler that makes everyone rave about them??
i have never seen any of them play and barely heard of them. if they are as good as what some people have been saying then why would hawthorn even think of getting rid of them?

we are after young talent that can hold down a KP, thorpe is practically a superstar in the making but dont think he will get his opportunity for a while down at hawthorn because of the depth they have ATM
carlton have been crying out for a thorpe like player for a while now, and if the opportunity came up im sure that rats and the boys would seriously consider the move

The point is guys......don't you forget.

Significant injuries so early in a career must surely drop their value.

If Thorpe was pick 6 two years ago, ID say he'd be a late first rounder now, for the following reasons:
- 2 years in the system and has done less than many other first round KPP's his age.
- Significant injuries cast doubt over his ability to fulfill his potential
- The lockouts in coming drafts make the value of first rounders for the next two drafts alomst double. i.e. pick 6 in two years time will be pick 14.

I doubt Thorpe will leave as for the above reasons we and other clubs should de-value him, but the Hawks, quite rightly, will value him based on potential and the two offers won't match.

Apparently Dowlers definitely looking elsewhere for more opportunity, and we are one of 4 clubs he'd like to go to(the others being Coll, Rich and the Dogs)
