Macca 23's suggestion sounds like a workable one to me. However, you might have some extra confusion brought on by all the different uniforms.
Imagine the consequences of having 2 away jerseys for each of 16 teams in the AFL. Every time you turn on the TV you'll be seeing a different set of uniforms (depending on who you're watching). You'll need a form guide just to tell who's playing.
Who knows whether that'll be another problem or not, though I can envisage other angry posts on this site by people saying they can't tell who the teams are anymore. I still stick by my earlier assessment that some neutral color (doesn't necessarily have to be white) would be the most simple solution.
Then you could dress the umpires in pink, like they should be.
