Well, this latest news has certainly been pulled from somewhere - although I'm not sure that it's from a hat...Apparently, the Hamburgler reckons that we're going to pull a rabbit out of our hat in December regarding a key back. #grainofsaltbut

Well maybe they don't see Tippett as being any better an option than BlakeThis, THIS is the nail lost from our horseshoe for next year. The decision made today will cost us - how much it costs us remains to be seen, of course (a game? a few games? a spot in the finals? a final? a premiership?) - but it WILL cost us.
We will be going into the year with a role unfulfilled that teams will mercilessly exploit - precisely because we went into this year with that role unfulfilled, and teams exploited it then. The definition of madness is to try the same thing the same way and expect a different result.
All of this could be understandable, if there were no options available. But that is not a tenable argument here. Tippett has the physical attributes, the skills (as evidenced by his success at the SANFL), the age, and that all important character that seems so important to our recruiting and coaching staff (listen to what those who know him have repeatedly and emphatically said).
I can't agree more. If Tippett didn't work out then we simply cut him if Brown comes over next year. This is the worst move I have seen yet from Bains. Worse than the TDL drafting. Every other move (save for not picking Clurey) has been spot on in my view.
To people saying about the 195cm KPD. Who said the club don't have something plan? Scott has already said Stanley or Kosi are likely to be tested back there. I would rather one of them then go and recruit someone like Tippett (Who i personally think is more of a State League Player) & Hartigan or someone like that. Clearly i feel the club already have something planned on the KPD 195cm+ player instead of us drafting one.
I actually believe Zac walked because of Pelchen, and I think we're still waiting for him to fix it.
You're telling me no options have presented themselves in two years now?
The club continued to highlight last year and this, that we genuinely needed one, yet we still don't have one.
Hopefully something is done this week so that a pick can be used and someone rookied, otherwise I'm genuinely puzzled as to the why's and hows.
I'm kind of tired watching the talents of Gwilt and Fisher tied up in locking down on forwards when I'd prefer them using their skills elsewhere, sure Sam can do it, but it's not in the teams best interest surely.
Oh no, what ever shall we do without Kosi? That approach makes sense, but on that basis how is Robertson this 'quality' you expect?
We're gonna wait until 2014 season till this problem is fixed. And by then, we'll have other problems (Lenny for a start is bound to be gone by then, I expect Kosi to be falling apart by then too).

Miss seeing our players getting injured.Oh no, what ever shall we do without Kosi?![]()

Wilkes averaged more goals a game than Kosi despite playing games in the back line and being subbed off several times, and provides far more pressure than him as well (although that's not saying much because a glacier would give more defensive pressure than Kosi)Hey I'm not saying he's a star. And Lennys my fav player but I can see his influence getting less. But these guys are good enough for the positions just now; in 2 years when we get KPD sorted, we'll have holes elsewhere. God loves him for trying but Wilkes looks like Jason Donovan out there sometimes.
Just because the club is aware of the it and are actively looking, that doesn't mean that a full back will magically appear.
I would rather that we take the current approach of trying to recruit the right player, than taking pot luck with any player of the requisite height and weight. Better to search out quality, rather than desperately take those who are not good enough, just to fill the spot.
I watch the SANFL, and watched Tippett. There is a reason both Brisbane & Gold Coast cut him. Brilliant State League player but don't think he'll cut it at AFL Level. But we're not talking about any player, or picking somebody with only the right dimensions. We're talking about taking a guy who has all that (197cm, 93kg), and just got into the official team of the year in the SANFL (a decent league!) for full back, and received excessive praise from his club's manager, a former Crows champion. He's gotta be better than nothing, and we just went for - wait for it - nothing.
There's one thing worse than desperately taking something bad: negligently NOT taking something GOOD.

Didn't Shenton dominate in the SANFL?But we're not talking about any player, or picking somebody with only the right dimensions. What does that mean? I'm not having a go - I'm seriously asking, what does that mean?I watch the SANFL, and watched Tippett. There is a reason both Brisbane & Gold Coast cut him. Brilliant State League player but don't think he'll cut it at AFL Level.
Couldn't work out what i mean in the first post? Won't cut it at AFL Level, Those players you named would get the better of Tippett. Just because players dominate in the SANFL, WAFL, VFL, NEAFL and get in some Team of the year or something doesn't mean they'll cut it at AFL Level which i don't reckon Joel would. Blake or Simpkin i reckon would do a lot better on those forwards you named then Joel would. What does that mean? I'm not having a go - I'm seriously asking, what does that mean?
Look, next year, we play Richmond (Jack) twice, Swans twice, Essendon, Giants (who may well get K Tippett), Collingwood, West Coast (Darling/Cox), Freo twice (Pav), Geelong (Hawkins), and Hawthorn - ALL of which have match-winning or developing full-forwards, who could well turn a game for their team if let completely off the leash. That is TWELVE games. That is the difference between finals and cricket season.
We're not expecting Tippet to be Mr Versatile and play every game. We're asking him to play a very specialised-but-important-when-necessary role. Keep those guys on a leash. If they kick 3 or 4, fine. 1 or 2, bonus. 5-8, disaster. That should be manageable for a brilliant state leaguer.
It's LESS manageable putting half-backs and second-backs on those players.
I'm not sure what you mean? How is Shenton relevant? Shenton was picked up as a medium forward (188cm, 84kg). He has since been made into a medium backman. All power to him. One thing he will never be is a full back. He's about 10cm and 10kg off of that.Didn't Shenton dominate in the SANFL?
I'm saying that if a player like Shenton can dominate the league, it can't be that great of a league. Tippett might just look good due to the lack of quality opposition.I'm not sure what you mean?
