McGregor was amazing.

My premonition was completely and utterly correct. Posted more than 30 minutes before the game even began :D

There was one bad contributor who made 2-3 mistakes that resulted in Essendon goals, but lets not go there.

VERY enjoyable game of footy :)

One of the best games played by a Crows team for a long long time.

However it is worth pointing out how stupid little things can be turning points in a game.

We got to a 37 point lead just after the start of the 2nd quarter, and Burton loses concentration and pulls a real sh*tty clanger that gifts Essendon a goal, and turns the tide of the game. That quarter was a bit of a horror one for him and could have cost plenty thanks to his mindless mistakes.

Then in the 3rd quarter after a goalless arm wrestle for half the quarter, Solomon pulls the hero stunt and gives away an FAD down field which results in a goal and opens up the flood-gates for the Crows.

Anyhow the good guys won, so all is forgiven. I'm sure the coach won't miss it in his match reviews though. :)

The sixth paragraph is probably most relevant, but interesting to see how one game can really draw a line into how two teams look like faring for the remainder of the season.

Hope you guys enjoy the report, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the win.
I like the 5th paragraph better.

Not sure about Burton in the best players though!

Skipworth - keeps racking up the numbers, but his lack of pace, 'pirouettes' when under pressure and short-distance kicking worry me...I think we should give someone like Schuback a run in his role, Skipworth is OK for depth but Schuback has pace, a huge kick and offers us a forward crumber...see his game against the Eagles today for evidence...
Just saw the replay - he contributed to 2 last 1/4 goals and did a couple of other nice things - and to some degree you are correct but he seems to be finding a player most times and not as many clangers.

I know im Pisted but doesnt NC excite you with his courage..drop Welsh for Jericho and it pays off ,......big big time..see to me this is NCs barometer..dont worry about your VBs and your Meesons..its those players who wernt sighted under Ayres ..your Skipworths, your Ruttens, Your Mattners, your Bocks, your Torneys .. man I could go on.. your Jerichos.. but at the end of the day its who you have faith in and NCs balls are bigger than grapefruits.

Like a proud dad NC must be smiling

I have seen the future and it looooooooooooooooks great. I truly dont care where we finish as long as development is paramount. People asked me why I was happy Welsh got dropped? I am not a Welsh fan.. I might be wrong but to see Jericho slot in nicely..well what can one say..NC honestly has ressurected Rutten, Skipworth, Mattner, Bock and Jericho.. the man is a GOD

The word was Welshy had a virus! Doubt he'd be dropped after the last 1/4 of the Carlton game - generally around the ground there was some concern shown when it was announced. In fact some thought Watts could have been included BUT Jericho did very well and I am really pleased about that - and he was the obvious step up for this game when you think about it - and had been building up to this gradually .

Now about next week? - not sure how the structure will look!

it was a good win but essendon virtually dont have a midfield. Still very pis$ed that VB and Reilly dont get game time, there was really no reason not to give them game time tonight. 5 min a quarter especially for reilly isnt good enough. We are counting on our guns to perform and not get injured. Depth is still the problem for us, and ofcourse a key forward, but if the midfield stays strong it doesnt matter as much.

only you could be unhappy Jack, well done.

Some players just should not be allowed to go anywhere near the backline. Did some nice things away from there though.

I think that was due to the fact that Burton got so much of the footy. It's just what he does with it when he gets it. Seems to get a rush of blood to the head.

At the end of the day he still played a pretty good game.

But bloody hell his brain goes into overload at the wrong times. :(

Comments:

Thompson - that goalkicking exercise worked...he is AWESOME...who needs Tyson Stenglein? We DEFINITELY won this trade, no matter what Gibson does...

McGregor - not the best player in the world, but the perfect element in our forward line - capable of contested marking, runs hard and ALWAYS provides a target

Perrie - it must just have been Carey he couldn't work with, looked very comfortable with McGregor as his forward partner. Glad to see he's returned to the glove - he marked pretty much everything this time! Very good game, answered his critics...

Jericho - hey, not the hardest player in the world, but if he can perform like this, I'll be happy - chased, set up a screen, and most importantly, kicked GOALS

Hudson - hallelujah, a ruck who can play around the ground! An absolute inspiration, tonight was his breakout game, two goals and midfielder-esque possessions counts...and even better, he's getting some strong performances out of Biglands

Bock - confidence is a wonderful thing...absolutely MAULED Lucas...provided a running option...didn't think he had it in him!

Rutten - gave Lloyd a bath even when Essendon were on top...rebounds well from bad games (like Fevola last week), learns from his mistakes and continued Lloyd's horror year

Bassett - just refuses to be beaten...has such a beautiful tandem with Rutten!

And maybe my main criticism...

Too be honest, I have been impressed with Skippys form this year. However, where's his best postion? If it's in the midfield rotation then I think Knights is a better option. If it's as a crumbing forward, SChuie is a better option.

same here Jackie Boy, especially regarding Reilly. Still think he would be a better option on a wing than Clangerman.

Great win by the club, a great game to witness live.

POSITIVES:

7-4 half way mark. Who would have thought. I had us at 5-6, at best, at the half way mark.

The game plan - Very exciting. NC is impressing.

Goody - Have we missed this guy over the last 2 years or what.

The Backdoor errr Backbone group - Mattner, Hudson, Bock, Doughty, Shirley, Rutts - continue to defy pre-season expectations.

Roo - Didn't have a great game. The fact he's our Captain is always a positive for me.

Thompson - How didn't he get in the best players is beyond me. Must be in next years leadership group.

Kenny - My kindgom for a forward who can dominate in the air.

The Crowd - brilliant atmosephere.

NEGATIVES:

Burton - Singlehandly nearly let Essendon back in the game in the 2nd quarter. I'm still of the opinion he is a very selfish footballer. Beratting Doughty for not passing to him in the last quarter reeked of hypocrisy.

Reilly - Needs to be given more gametime.

It was helped because of those 'plastic bangers' [sum1 tell me what they are called] - gave a bit extra oomph to the night - lots were being wave around etc

Great to see a Mexican Wave too - cant recall the last one - even though I have missed quite a few games in the past few years.

Also - thought the Bomber fans were more vocal that what we have used to - gave us a bit to work on!! - especially that guy who was bagging everyone especially Perrie.

Why does this happen only when we are playing well. My main concern is that it doesnt happen when either the game is in the balance or we are not in front. Reminds me of the who crowd how early they were cheering but when the bombers started their charge in the second stanza they went quiet.

Most are front runners as said earlier.

Thats my two jacks worth.
