Not much point writing about the first half, might as well cut and paste the magpies posters reviews from the Kangas game.

No question our revival was led by Scott Burns and his ability to win the contested ball. Our midfielders and back flankers started to run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and make better decisions with the footy. We moved the ball quickly into the forward 50m, which gave Rocca the opportunity to have one on one contests with Bowden and not have the third man coming over the top and spoiling. Matlhouse finally played Medhurst one out in the goal square on Gasper - Gasper is a not even a shadow of the player he once was and needed to be exploited. It finally happened in the last quarter.

We had a number of good players in the second half, and only a handful that had a 'four quarter performance'. Without question, Burns was BOG by a mile. Tarkyn Lockyer was fantastic, i'm not the biggest fan of Tarks, but it was a quality performance. Dale Thomas's best performance in the black and white.

Special mention to Rhys Shaw, who had a terrific second half. He carried the footy and broke the lines in tandem with our future captain Heath Shaw.

All our first gamers had an impact, which is all you can ask for a kid playing his first game. Toovey was great, he put his body on the line on many occassions, laid tackles and got amongst it. Three goals, what more can you say. Hate to see him kicking on the run though!

Possible changes for Port next week - Clement will hopefully be back which will prob see Wakelin out. Licuria and O'Bree would be under pressue, purely based on performance and not reputation. O'Breee continues to nutcher the ball while Licuria hasn't got off the treadmill yet.

GO PIES

Ordinary first half again, sitting there reminded me of the Kangaroos game. We struggled with our disposal, couldn't hit our targets, and mucked around with the footy a bit.
Magnificent in the second half, great signs considering we had a young side out there.
Well done to all three young guns, D1ck looked like he would always do something when he got the ball, Tooves was good allnight, 3 goals on debut nothing to sneeze at, plus he ran through the midfield and used the footy well. Cox looked comfortable down back, did his job plus got the footy 12 times, very impressive.
Leon's goal will win him a car, brilliant effort. The guys a freak. Did it against WC last week, then produces that last night.
Swan, Burns hard nuts and were excellent in the middle, l thought Licca was very good, worked hard and ran hard allnight.
Thomas and Pendles continue to get better every game, both will be elite players in this comp.
Shaw boys were good. I thought Rhyce had the better game this time, he was excellent of half back, with his runs up the ground. Heath was better in the second half. Has just continued on from last year.
Lockyer showing form of a few years ago, good signs for us if he regains the form that saw him rank as one of our most valuable players. i always have time for Tarks, and l hope he plays the majority of the season like that. He was sensational.
Richards and Clokey both were good tonight, Richo's ruck work was good, while Clokey presented allnight and contested well. Should of had 2 goals though.
O'Brien love the way he plays, reminds me of a young Mal Michael.

Toovey is ok, he could become a really handy player that does a job each week. Still like others I'm not totally sold on him. Dick has fantastic skills, I don't think he is as quick as people make him out to be, certainly quicker than most but not explosive. Cox, I like a lot, with Wakes struggling put him at CHB, if we think he can play there and watch him develop. He reminds me a bit of a less athletic but more poised Brennan or even Jason Roe to a lesser extent.

Agree. Happy to see him go well, but I also remember a certain Collingwood player who got 5 Brownlow votes in his first 2 games, recently. Where is he now? Not meaning to project doom, but he still has a long way to go.

Very, very impressed with the Pies tonight, went and watched with my gf and her bro and not much to say about the first half but you guys killed it in the second half and with the names still to come back anyone who had you guys as spooners should really evaluate how much they know about footy. I've never been impressed with Lockyer but tonight changed my opinion and Heath Shaw is a star!

Good game guys

cheers, but I would of thought us belting you by 102 points last year would of given you a fair insight of what we are about:rolleyes:

I liked our composure in the first half. We were under seige, yet the team didn't panic, they just stabilised and managed the run of the tigers. I have to say that the Tigers really let themselves down with their goal kicking. I'm not sure of our clangers, but we seemed to much better at hitting targets that night. As we've all been typing our young players held up well. I think Toovey will be along the lines of Lockyer. A good solid player that will contribute week in and week out, occassionally staring.

I think the Tigers fans should at least be happy with Tambling as he played well for them.

I thought Licca played very well last night. Much improved on the last two weeks. The young boys again stood up, Daisy, Pendles and Heath were great. I have been so impressed with Tarks in all three games so far, he has been brilliant.

Please take off your Licuria goggles.

Has been a brilliant player in the black and white, its unfortunate, but I'd rather see some of kids get a game at his expense.

Lica's slow, worst disposer of the footy in the side and possibly the afl.

Hope you don't mind but just watched this game and have some thoughts/questions...

1st of all, Pies looked chipper. I proudly can say I never wrote off you guys this year. Didn't finish 5th after home & away last year by accident and I reluctantly;) admit that your side is one of the most entertaining in the comp from a spectator point of view.

I thought it was the experience that really stood up in the 2nd half. O'bree, Rocca (for a little while) stood up but in particular Lockyer who was fantastic and took the game by the scruff with his work out of the middle.

And loved Medhurst's game, IMO one of the best lead's in the comp...What are you thought's on his role in the team? Really looked like he worked well with Rocca (ie. better than Tarrant) in sharing their space. Generally forward looks in good shape with the rookies kicking a bunch and Rocca & Davis aswell.

Also, how the **** are these young guys so cool under pressure? Admittedly I didn't watch a lot of last year (being in Tokyo & all) but guys like Swan (all class & your best young player I think), Thomas (very exciting but decision making can sometimes let him down) & O'brien (where the hell did he come from) just look calm and have all the time in the world. Also I love Dick! I mean...um....you know.:p
Seriously, quality game from him along with Toovey.

Forget the talk about windows & cycles, the Pies don't look like spending time at the bottom anytime soon and have played 3 good games for 2 wins with a great mix of experience & youth!:thumbsu:

Will be interesting to see how meds goes when dids returns to the side. Certainly hope it's not like a clint eastwood western; not enough room in town for the both of them...
