George's and Kane's speeches at their HoF induction were both incredible. They couldn't have had more different football journeys yet both passionately expressed complete love and admiration for the Port Adelaide Football Club. I think our Board will be all the poorer with George no longer involved.
Maybe it frees up George to be more involved in bringing back the bars?

Great to see the 4 debutants selected for tomorrow - all have shown something during the pre-season and the three 1st rounders all look like 150+ game players.

Nice to see Karl Amon rewarded for his good form in the pre-season. He has a lot of doubters including myself but he definitely earned his spot for round 1.

But most of all, congratulations to Robbie on 200 games - a true champion of the competition.

Great start to the season. All six playing their first game for Port were fantastic. I was unsure about Burton after the JLT but he was great. Lycett is the exact mature age recruit that we needed. Drew looked as if he belonged at the level and all of the 1st rounders showed something. I still think Duursma will be the best of the lot which is saying something as Rozee and Butters look like stars.

The Thread played well today. Hit the ball hard, ran all day and beat them on the inside and smashed on the outside. A bit fumbly with hands today but made up for it with superior outside play. The Thread is BOG today.

Points from the OP that were on display in our first hit out for the year:
  • play an entertaining brand of football that makes it a joy to go the the footy again - a big, big, tick :thumbsu:
  • have enough confidence in our systems to focus more on what we will do and less on what the opposition will do, and to not throw our structures out when injury and suspension hits - we executed a game plan that played to our strengths and instead of planning to concede the ruck like we did for many games last year, we physically and tactically dominated Gawn.
Points we have an opportunity to demonstrate in our first home game:
  • have enough confidence in our systems to focus more on what we will do and less on what the opposition will do, and to not throw our structures out when injury and suspension hits - can we keep our structure, i.e. no change or replace like for like if Wines/Hartlett return or Todd is out through concussion?
  • return Adelaide Oval to being an intimidating venue for visiting teams - hammering Carlton would send an early signal that Port are back
Points that we could maybe have done better:
  • publicly call out dubious decisions and actions that negatively impact the club and assertively challenge them - we continue to get shafted by umpiring on 50/50 calls but it would be a bit churlish to call them out after a win; if the trend continues the club needs to address it, especially if we get the anti-noise-of-affirmation treatment at home games that the Crows or Eagles never seem to get.
Points that are too early to tell:
  • fiercely promote and protect our unique traditions including campaigning for the return of the prison bars
  • show clear, united, accountable on and off-field leadership and not let ourselves down by continued off-field indiscretions
  • start delivering real dividends from the China strategy
  • make forward progress towards a future women's team
  • not claim mission accomplished if we just make finals

There has been a change at this club.
The players focusing on each other.
Mobiles banned post match so they can do this post game rather than worrying about social media, according to Jonas.

Players running some things,
Coaches loosening the leash a bit.

Everyone on the same page.
No lone wolves.

Ken trusting his line coaches.
Ken Voss Davies on same page.

Ken, whilst retaining the mantle, focusing on one on one relationships and individual coaching to bring out best in his charges.
Culture change.

I want to see us regularly win games because we've outworked and out-thought our opposition, not just outclassed them.
That wont happen for a long time imo.
After Richmond crossed the border with their B grade side and beat us the other clubs will be lining up for their free 4 points.
These buggers have already got a sniff of blood and believe me the sharks are coming.
