Toast Thread of Appreciation

I appreciate my community. There are some awesome people here.

I also appreciate being alive. Unlike a mate who drowned in a kayaking accident in the Nymboida river last week. Things can go quickly so make the most of it and appreciate the moments you have.

Well said ferbs. We've only ever got the moment we're in. Make the most of it, and live it with love.

Let's give this a go:

Me, I'm grateful I'm still here..... on Australia Day, I suffered a "heart attack".

I'm 53, I've never drank alcohol, never smoked and I'm fit (race mountain bikes competitively, bush walk and run), but here I am.

While sitting in ER, thinking I'm about to chuck it in, my father sent me a text "Don't you do anything stupid, you need to be here to bury me, not the other way around!", let me tell you, that was a tough text to read (my dad has stage 4 cancer).

So I appreciate things just a little bit more than I used to ;)

I hope things look up for you from here BoomerRoo, that is some really tough cards to be dealt. Sending all my best thoughts and good energy to you and your dad. Heal well through your recovery, and take care of each other.🙏🤲

Praying for you and your father mate. A friend of mine's relative recently beat stage 4. Keep fighting 💪

Best of luck BoomerRoo. I lost a really good friend a few years back to a heart attack. He was 53 and fit as a fiddle like you. It’s crazy how these little issues sit, apparently, dormant throughout our lives and then strike out of the blue.

What brought this on mate?
That's the big question my specialists are trying to answer Snake_Baker

Keeping it short and sweet, it appears my heart had a defect when I was younger, so to compensate, my heart "grew" another artery and bypassed the problem area itself (I didn't even know the heart could do that, apparently it can, but very very rare, so they said). Unfortunately for me, this artery decided to not do it's job (it's not blocked) on the day when I needed it most. Can't stent it, it's in an awkward spot, only option if drugs don't work, is a bypass........ which I'm trying to avoid!

Thank you! Yes, I know what you mean, apparently I was just unlucky. But I feel lucky they've found it....

Condolences on your loss Caracas.

I see, so it's not the typical cholesterol-oxidation issue.

I'd look at it this way mate, what choice would I wish I had made if I was flat out on my back and the void was opening up in front of me.

Of course, you will be starting to become aware that there's a hell of a lot of bullshit out there regarding diet and exercise.

No

Pretty much what I said :tearsofjoy:

I'm thankful, my family and friends have stayed healthy.
I'm thankful I wake to the sun rising over the back of my house and the sun setting at the front.
I'm thankful we have been so lucky in WA, but wish the whole of Aus. continued low or no covid.
I'm thankful we have vaccines and can see a way to live with this thing.
I'm thankful no lives were lost in our recent fires.
I'm thankful I have learnt to no long sweat the small stuff.

I just checked in for the first (or maybe second) time in a long time, and it seems we're now having a big group hug.
So here goes: I'm grateful that during covid the current Mrs. T insisted that I remove my rather large pile of Golf Magazines from the bedroom bookcase and surrounds, and in doing so I paused and read a few articles, and found an old article about putting grips which has revolutionised my performance with the flatstick. No more random pushes to the right for months now.
So much so that I was able to compile enough data to justify the importance of at least some of the magazines staying exactly where they are.

Just before Christmas, my best mate who lives in NSW was diagnosed with an incurable sarcoma; I was grateful to beat the border closure to get up to see him on 28 Dec, and then spent three weeks helping out with end of life until he passed on 14 January. Fortunately the border reopened not long after and I was able to get home.

What I appreciate out of that? I appreciate being a Victorian, because we have assisted dying - having to watch your best mate lying insensible, unable to speak, gasping for air like a fish out of water - we treat dogs better.

So I'm glad when it's my time, I'm a Victorian, and got the option to make my own decisions about life and dignity

So I fractured my arm earlier this week. Since Covid started, I've kept a several weeks' supply of "emergency" non-perishable type food in my larder, to be used in case I ever had to self-isolate because of Covid. I am in tremendous appreciation right now to be using that food because of a broken arm, and not a deadly virus. Especially too, because my cousin tested positive for Covid on the same day I broke my arm - Groundhog Day, incidentally - what's up with that?! My cousin is a health care worker in an aged care home in Northern Alberta. 70 residents and 16 staff have tested positive so far, so I guess it was only a matter of time. She's doing okay so far though, recovering at home. I'm grateful for that, and I'm grateful that I don't have her job.

I'm also grateful that I've managed to keep my own self out of the medical system so far, by x-raying myself at work right after it happened, and emailing the rads to a co-worker's brother who is an MD for a confirmation of our diagnosis (radial head avulsion fracture) He recommended an orthopedic consult, but conceded that it wasn't unreasonable of me to want to stay out of the medical/hospital system in these Covid times. Thank you! YES. Sooooo not going there if I don't have to. The risk right now is just too great. So I've opted to just stay home and hold my arm as immobile as possible and let it heal.

It feels like I've sustained my first "sports injury". And by that, I mean that most of the best and most helpful info I've found on this type of fracture has been on sports medicine websites.

So I've given myself two weeks, of course. :thumbsu: Wish me luck, and keep safe everyone. :greenheart:

So correct me if I'm wrong, you broke your arm ( sorry about that) and then calmy went about self diagnosis and yeah prescribed your own recovery?

Thumbs up to you, I'd still be runnng around screaming. Hope the recovery goes to plan:) Am sure it will.

Oh I have an inflamed big toe and people thinks it's gout. And say I should cut back on red wine, i say they're stupid. Thoughts?

I'm greatful for this board in oh so may ways. 👍

For a fee he can find you a new heart.

Hearts are made up of heart cells. If BR 's one has grown an artery then I suspect the secret service agency of various countries are currently tracking him down to whisk him off for a good probing.

I suspect that he may have a differently formed arterial system from birth.

Well I have an inflamed gut. People think I should cut back on red wine and beer.
I also say they are stupid, I take it as commission for good living and I’ll suck it in when the good looking ladies are about 👍
