Had a Pianola for a while when I was a kid, only time I could produce anything resembling recognisable music.

For me it was the massive family lunch we would have with heaps of cousins and aunties and uncles, followed by someone dressing up as Santa (usually just wearing a hat lol) and handing out all the little gifts. We certainly weren't a rich family but everyone bought most people a tiny something, usually funny, often a joke about events throughout the year.Had a really good day today.
Old man is now totally bed ridden, so the poor old bugger needs full service to get from North Ringwood to Warrandyte......which obviously can't happen anymore.
Back in the day we used to have lunch at Nanna's on Kerferd St, in Essendon.....was a calamity from start to finish.
One year, we ended up on the Pianola, the thing where you had to feed the music off dotted scrolls, then had to pump the pedals.
Old man wouldn't know music from a mosaic.....still sits with me, blind as a bat, sweating like a bastard, hitting the pedals like he was Nikki Lauda.
Christmas is about being a kid, it's those wonderful memories.
I like Christmas.

Kids are so cute sometimes! We are in Bendigo and about to head to the family gathering - it's a surprise attendance since we weren't going to make the trip across. Family will be stoked to see our 18mo girlI love having my nephew (18 months old) around for Christmas these days. I got him two presents this year--one I made and one I bought. As soon as he walked into the lounge room and saw the big pile of presents around the tree he made a beeline for the handmade present and was delighted with it. What a little darling.
Looking forward to seeing my littlest cousin too - she is a cutie and about 4 years old now, but have rarely seen her unfortunatelyYes, the kids are pure joy... The look on my baby boy's face is priceless. Ripping open his present while sitting on my lap, and I shower him with butterfly kisses.Kids are so cute sometimes! I'm sorry for your losses KohPhiThe kids in our family go nuts at Xmas time. It's hosted at a different family members place every year and our tradition is the male of the house arrives as Santa and hands out the pressies. Its become a bit of a competition over the years as to which Santa can outdo the previous in arrival method. Last year I hosted and arrived by climbing onto the roof and stomping around till the kids came outside. This year, Santa (neices hubby) is a copper and arrived in a divvy van!
Mrs Kophi and I love Christmas but it was definately bitter/sweet this year. Our baby was due last week but we miscarried a few months back. It was our second miscarriage this year and its fair to say the wifey was pretty emotional yesterday as was my neice who also has miscarried twice this year. Here's hoping there will be some new faces at Christmas next year..

Stories like this really do make me sad, must be a very difficult time for both you and your wife as well as your extended family to deal with this. Family is just so important to everyone's health & well being these days and can affect people in so many different ways. The kids in our family go nuts at Xmas time. This is quite possibly the last Christmas we will be having with my stepdad (he really is my dad... my sperm donor is a piece of shit) because he quite possibly won't see another one. My sister was running round like a blue arsed fly trying to get decorations and everything sorted out... and then when mum and dad invite their grandson and his family around, the ones we have been estranged from for most of this year, she cracks the sads and just walks out on the whole proceedings. The kids in our family go nuts at Xmas time. After making sure to tell everyone that this year is all about our dad, she walks out on him. So we have his daughter and her kids, his stepson, my nephew and his wife and kids and we are going to have a ball! And she is going to miss out! Serves her right... Merry Christmas all...
We got smashed yesterdayStress can bring on weird actions and responses Dram..Im sure you and your dad will have a great one mate..
we had fun
Reading all of your messages has made me nostalgic, happy, sad, reflective and hopeful. Thank you. Wishing you all a belated merry Christmas and all the best in the near and far future. I don't see this as a thread of goodwill it's more like a rope of peace and love. Something the world at large needs.
