Saw this film last night.
Terry could do worse than take the entire list to see it sometime this week.
They might learn something.

I can just see Terry in his pre game speech before the game in Adelaide

"Tonight we dine in hell!!"

Historically true apparantely, or so Mrs Tugga tells me. I smuggled a hip flask of Bundy in to the cinema and settled back with my upsized Pepsi so the details are a bit hazy, but it's a good flick IDGAF. Highly recommended.
Obviously my original post was tongue in cheek, but not as absurd as it sounds.

Historically true...

Well, a LOT of licence has been taken with it, but the underlying story is true.

A huge Persian army was stopped for 3 days ( I think ) at Thermopylae by 300 Spartans ( their king and his bodyguard ), who died to a man, allowing the rest of the Greek forces to get away ( there had been a much larger force there ) and gather their strength.

Ultimately the Persian invasion was beaten off by the Athenian fleet smashing the Persians at Salamis, but the delay helped force the Persians to commit their fleet like that, so it did contribute to the eventual victory although it's debatable how much.

Historically true. Documented by the world's first historian, Herodotus.

An army of 4,000 soldiers were led by 300 spartans to hold off the invading Persian army of 2m. They would have held them off indefinetely had they not been betrayed by the ancient world's own version of David Cloke

Most cities in Greece were prepared to give in without a fight due to being vastly outnumbered.

The Spartans holding them off encouraged the rest of the country to take up arms and sent 100k soldiers who beat the invading army.

One of the greatest events in history ever recorded.

Not a bad flick either.

An accurate account if my reading has any merit, 1980, but it is considered that the Persian army was numbered more in the thousands rather than the millions, which was an exageration by the historian in question.

Top movie, very motivational, and a great idea for our boys to see it and get fired up, plus learn a bit about sacrifice for your tribe and your fellow 'warriors'.

Only concern is that the Spartans may not have been exactly 'straight down the line', and might result in our players becoming a lot 'closer', but that can only be good, right?

Emilio Esteves taking on the role in the mighty ducks was like Richmond entering 1984.

He must think of St Elmos Fire like we do the early eighties and late seventies.

Charlie Sheen taking on 'The Rookie' with Clint Eastwood was like us taking on Ottens. The formula was that it couldnt lose but it was another notch in his decline.
