It's a little early to be talking about finals, but with our current form we look like making it at last. I think there are three blokes off the field who have contributed hugely to this. In no particular order:

The first is Eddie. There's been too much said and written about him already, but the bottom line is this: he rakes in the sponsorship dollars, runs the club well, and despite being in everybody's face all day long he never hands ammunition to the opposition a la Big jack and McMahon.

The second is Malthouse. He has once again arrived at a club with on-field problems and turned them into a finals side with a strong even midfield and a tight defence. This Malthouse side has more scoring firepower than his Eagle and Bulldog outfits, but it exhibits that no. 1 Malthouse trait: consistency. The transformation from 1999 is unbeleivable.

The third is Judkins. The guy's strike rate is amazing, and we seem to be getting exactly what we need out of players whether rookies, draft picks or trades. We did well in 1999 (although its hard to miss with the no 1 pick), better in 2000, and 2001 has been a corker. I realize recruiting is a joint effort with the coach, administration and spotters all playing a part, but if the recruiting officer is a dud, the club is picking blind.

And the baby? Well its too soon to say, but the air is pregnant with expectation in Pie land.
