Three Talls: Can it work?

Yes it can work , firstly Fraser's got to get the **** out of the forward rotation and Jolly or Wood don't need to rest up there unless we are desperate.

Cloke, Anthony and Dawes are better movers and have bigger tanks than the Hawkins and Pods in that Geelong trio , so it's less of a defensive worry. It also forces the opposition to man them up with appropriately tall defenders.

The Kanga's are another team that run loads of tall defenders, Thompson, Grima, Henderson & Firitto. Could be worth a crack this weekend for 3 tall specialist forwards, if nothing else, might limit their options for shuffling their defence.

I'm going to say No.

But I'm not against trying it...but not yet...perhaps 2nd half on the year if top 4 is secure.


Right now, we are in terrific form and the team balance looks just about perfect.


I think for 3 talls to work, one has to be a ruckman...that is why Geelong's 3 talls up forward fell down against Carlton who were able to run off half back with ease.


Josh Fraser is basically our 3rd tall forward and backup ruck right now. If Josh is injured, then it may perhaps work if Dawes backup rucks which still only leaves the 2 talls forward.



The reason why I don't think it will work is that our greatest strength right now is forward line pressure.

Remember that we kicked 16 of our 24 goals last week purely from turnovers. If we are relying on turnovers so heavily, then we need to keep our forward line mobile. I have noticed Beams and Sidebottom are starting on a forward flank for this reason. Therefore we can't go too tall.

I actually think we SHOULD have all 3.

2 Talls, 1 Medium (Anthony), and 3 smalls. Jack CAN actually play as a small and a tall, and being on the 3rd, 4th of 5th best defender will help him immensely.

I say bring him in. The more worries you give the opposition defenders, the better.

Saw it much earlier than expected! I think it worked alright. Could've been a disaster if Cloke didn't fire and kick 5 considering Anthony and Dawes only managed 1 between them though. I think the three deserve another game to see how they go against a top line backline.
