Oh hitouts absolutely still matter, I think I may have even brought up that very scenario at one stage on the boards a while back, sometimes you just have to hit the ball forward to clear the congestion. I think the majority of us reasonable posters have recognised Derickx's limitations but understand why he is in the team. He's basically a ruck tagger until such time when Pyke and Tippett are both fit.

Do you think Tippett will be the second ruck or Reid, or two proper rucks Derickx and Pyke

My opinion probably counts for bugger all but I think Tippett and Reid might both have to ruck at times because I'm not sure Pyke, Derickx, Tippett, Reid, and Buddy can all fit in the same team... though a permanent forward line containing Tippett, Reid, Buddy and Goodes would be pretty scary and hard to contain!

Derickxz is surprisingly fit so rucks the most so it kind of works, I saw Teddy taking a few hitouts to to relieve him. I hope Tippett settles as a forward and Pyke gets fitter and rucks mostly with a little help with the other keys, not Tippett.

I very much doubt especially after his recent injury Tippett will be anywhere near the ruck, its a tricky situation our best team balance is having one ruck but can Pyke do it?

Problem is Derickx is a liability anywhere else on the field if he is not rucking and if we play 2 rucks who goes out of the side? we will have to drop a runner.

1. Monfries is a diving campaigner
2. Monfries is a diving campaigner
3. Richards called him out on it big time late in the 4th trying to dive straight into the tackle. Weak.

I prefer to be the underdog.

Seriously:
Sydney $3.25
Hawthorn $4.00
Fremantle $4.50
Port $6.50
Geelong $8.00

Port should be shorter.

Weren't we $8 earlier in the year? Should have put something on us then.

After the North loss we got out to $15 shows how fickle the market is :p

Reason why Port are not favorites is because they are still unknown and history suggests to win a flag you need to play consecutive years in finals and go deep.

Tippett, McGlynn and Pyke easily cancel out Polec and Hartlett.

Polec and Hartlett are very talented players. I note that Port posters have noted a number of injuries accumulating in the team. I saw Boak at training on 360 on Thursday and thought he wouldn't be playing making me more confident about us winning but he was there and performed well. Derickx was seriously beaten so Pyke will make a huge difference when fully fit. Tippett makes our forward line structure so no argument there. McGlynn has been one of our best players this year. Those three will add a lot. The thing that worries me about Polec and Hartlett is their speed. Add in recovery from injuries and Port are a very strong team. However the concern for them is can they keep it up. Look what happened to us last year. Our forward line was not functioning and the midfield engaged in manic two way running to make up for it. By this time last year they were cooked and we faded for the rest of the year. I would not be surprised if that happens to Port. Will still really look forward for the return match.

Shhhhhh. I tend to think this is our advantage..!! We blindside them with small ground talk and it's all about the forwards.....let it roll on!

SCG is longer than last year, thanks to the redevelopment and its wider than the Adelaide Oval. Its not as small as people like to think

Ground Sizes:
MCG - 160m x 141m
Adelaide Oval - 167m x 123m
SCG (2013) - 152.5m x 136m
SCG (2014) - 155m x 136m

So basically the 6 meters each way you gain at the Adelaide Oval, you give back on the wings. Plus we have already won this year at the MCG and the Adelaide Oval.

Also the SCG before the Hill was redeveloped into the Victor Tumper Stand was 149.5m x 136m

So just 5 meters off being as large as the MCG. So we can toss the idea that the SCG is a small ground now
hhhhhhhhh

So........you like our chances in the return match??! I feel Port may find maintaining their momentum difficult for the rest of the year, even with a fairly easy run home compared to ourselves. I am not as impressed with Port as most. Although I have been wrong many times...!!!

I don't think anyone who serious knows football isn't aware of his role. I was just putting him in because Port isolated him many times, and his battles were a highlight for me. Haven't seen the replay yet though.

Appearing on a couple of AA lists is fine. But get back to me when they actually give him an AA honour though.

I prefer two time premiership player......

1. Derickjsxsx is tired. Give him a break
2. Franklin is worth the money + change
3. Goodes is still building after a very long time out

There's an interesting article up on foxsports comparing the similarities between Port's creed and the Bloods' culture:

Great game and much respect to the way that Port played and their fans conduct themselves. IMO Sydney v Port has the potential to become the next Hawthorn v Geelong.

Hopefully not, I'd much rather a rivaly like we had with west coast, one based on mutual respect, I'd rather shake hands at the end of game then spew vitriol like those do toward each other. They carry on like one of those family feuds from nowheresvill USA.

Port at $6.50...get on! They were very impressive against us and had more scoring shots, score was 14.14 to 13.16

Those odds for Port are ridiculous. If they go top 2 their home advantage should see them make a GF.

1. Franklin's 5 goals are worth the price of admission.
2. Goodes still can have his moments in games and that's all he needs.
3. Not sure where the rucks are at. Derickx is competitive and Pyke was left out (for team balance?)

Great game. Was very pleased we managed to hang with you all day. 3 years ago you would have smashed us.

Buddy....worth every cent when he does stuff like that. Bastardo! :p

Funnily enough, David King is usually anti-Port. After we lost to the Kangaroos by 7 points, in a game where after we were 20 pts up we lost Monfries who was just about BOG, and then Wingard to an ankle so were down 2 players, he bagged us for coming to Melbourne with 'big heads'. So I can only say he has more flip flops than Bondi Beach.

Looking forward to the return match which will be another 50/50 affair I think, and then hopefully we can meet again at the 'G' a little later in the year.

King is funny. I don't usually mind him when he remains general in his observations. But hearing him analyse Port's game was hilarious. It was as if he and only he, the great David King, had cracked the enigma code that is Port's success. Definition of a 'know-it-all'.

He gets on a hobby horse and bangs on about it all year waiting to be proved a 'genius'. And then when his 50/50 calls go bad, he deflects.

Hawks fans must have been laughing their arses off at him labelling them chokers in 2012 and predicting they couldn't get back up again in 2013.

Reminds of Robert Walls. Thought up 'Tempo' footy and that's all we heard for a decade, despite pretty much turning over half the list, updating and re-tooling our game plan, and changing coaches.

Enjoy his Port attentions while you can. It will begin to grate very shortly.

Any Swans fan paying attention would have known exactly what you've been creating over the last two years. Homage is the greatest compliment. Loved the moment in the third quarter when King started saying the Swans had changed their tactics and were suddenly playing Port's game. What a plonka. :drunk:

For what it's worth, David King is a Swans supporter. I think he tries to hide it too well and comes across the opposite.

I don't think King is a biased commentator in a club sense at all...he's just biased towards his own opinions - right or wrong.

Agreed. I didn't mean to imply that I want our matches to have a similar tone to Hawks/Cats, I just used them as an example because it's currently the game of choice for neutrals wanting to see a cracking game of footy. I think that Swans/Power can replace it in that regard - given the age profile of Hawk's/Cat's best 22 and the breaking of the Kennet Curse I see the importance of Hawks/Cats games waning a bit in the next 2-3 years.
