A terrible Richmond side with Ty Vickery up forward went 15-7 in 2 of those years. Must have been the weakest era ever.

I reckon a lot of supporters look at Richmond's list, and then look at their club's list, and think that there isn't much difference. You'd have to agree really. I think as coaching gets more and more refined, we're entering an era where list quality is less important than it was even 5-10 years ago. It's still a big factor, but culture and gameplan seem more important than ever before.

Top end talent like Dusty and Lynch helps of course. And The Tigers still have a few underrated players. But the competition of top teams in the last few years is less than around 2007-2017 without a doubt.

looking at Brisbane, geelong, hawthorn richmond the trend towards systems over ‘names’ is undeniable

Quoted for truth. OP looks like a Richmond Benny setting up the Hawks to be dunked on.

That said Hawthorn 2007-2015 was better than Richmond 2013-2020: the Hawks only had a year or two out of real contention in there, whereas Richmond were a joke for half that period.

Spoiling the atmosphere have been a couple of "cheat" sides in GWS and GC and they are both still here, sucking the quality out of the the rest of the league: both clubs adapted to the diminished pool of talent intelligently with recycled players (especially Hawthorn) and gameplans that suit the existing cattle (especially Richmond).

The biggest difference is Sydney were outright cheated into contention in Hawthorn's era, until they pinched Buddy off their AFL crib-mate GWS (incidentally giving rise to one of the Bay's most epic infographics, "Buddy's natural arc"). These days the AFL cheats for the Suns and Giants but its in a half-arsed way.

Richmond smashes Hawthorn in one area: not being ****'s.

Kennett isn't an aunt, a bunt, a dunt, an eunt or a funt. Gale isn't a Kennett. Same goes for Dimma over Clarckson. Fagan was literally the only ecent human in the admin there and he GTFO.

Hawks FOUR premierships with 5 of the same players. Richmond still two total. and didn't Adelaide, GWS 's**t the bed' too? the same could be applied to Geelong 07 too., port really shat themselves in the same way. when Cats met the hawks in 08 I guess a little from column A. jut 17 points down at 3/4 time

Cotchin is invaluable to Richmond does all the hard work and hurts players when he tackles, in the best players yet again on Friday, still at this stage Hodge is slightly in front.

Its thanks to Cotchin that we play so hard for the jumper and he also set Dusty up to be the supreme player he is, that alone makes Cotchins worth priceless.

He made spuds like Schoenmakers & Stratton into premiership players.

Dusty was always gonna look good with teamwork around him, before that he was just a s**t haircut.

Thank * for him the rest of the team decided they could be better than the Richo era. :$
 
Well, at least we can all agree that the threepeat Hawks would run rings around the 2017-2020 Hawks... even at their age.
