F*ck the establishment.

With Brisbane and Carlton about to go in battle, and after watching the first game of the 2010 season last week - I'm starting to warm to the idea of permanent Thursday night football.

Who else is in favour? And what is stopping the AFL from making this a permanent fixture?

I'd like it, if the networks would get off their arses and put it on live, or at least earlier than 20:30.

I remember a few years ago a preseason game was on live on a Thursday.

I don't mind it but I normally like Friday night football being like a reward after the week's work. Hainv it on a Thursday feels like a tease because you can't relax on Friday.

This is also why I prefer it when Melbourne plays games on Friday and Saturday (not often but more than previously) because when the game is over on Sunday (normally a loss), the weekend is basically over.

Friday night footy would stay - you would take away a Sunday or Saturday day game I would have thought?

Much prefer it to Monday Night Football.

Either way, I still prefer footy Saturday afternoon at the 'G!

22 weeks of that would be absolute BLISS.

Should have been happening for years! Great chance to give Sydney and SE Queensland teams much needed exposure as well.

Both teams would need to have played on the Friday night the week prior, to give them both a 6 day break.

How can BOTH teams do this, without repeating the same match-up from Friday, six days later to Thursday?

There is a way, which I've outlined in my Wednesday Night Football thread.

Wednesday is the ultimate TV night for football. The absolute ultimate. Rugby League State of Origin has proved that which a huge increase in TV ratings since they changed from Sunday to Wednesday.

I can live with Thursday. But Wednesday is better, for several reasons.

Which I assume you'll expand on in one of your usual 500 posts in any thread you decide to take over?

Monday, Wednesday or Thursday, just give me week night football once a week. Creates a big event, big atmosphere and big ratings.
Some Footy excitment outside the weekend needs to happen.

Don't like it, especially from a DT point of view.

^ahahaha, yer agree with this point :p
but besides that, not a big fan either.. to be honest rather a monday night game, dunno why no one likes it? an 8.30pm game after a hard days work/uni, get to see a good game of footy after dinner. :thumbsu:
better than watching the usual man v wild, grylls eating a whole bunch of bugs which isnt great viewing after dinner...

I really like it, but I can understand why the networks don't want to put it on live...

Hopefully the government actually makes a decision for a change, and allows live sport to be on the second digital channels - I am sure ONE would broadcast live thursday night footy and it would be a great success for both the network and fans.

Also - there is no reason to allow teams to always have an equal break before games... everything evens out at the end of the season. As long as you dont have a team that played on Friday (or thurs) playing a team that played on Sunday, I am sure it will be an acceptable compromise. AND, I prefer it to Monday night footy also - I tend to associate footy with the weekend and somehow Thursday is closer than monday ;)
