Was just donated on behalf of the playing group, no one specifically named.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Really hope it gets to about 3 mil tonight,If we could knock off half in 1 night the other half should be achieved hopefully.

I hope somebody has invited patricia ilhan tonight after the sale of crazy johns empire ............ least she could do is contribute to his beloved tigers.

Bit late there GUN, night has apparently finished and BT has posted that the total amount raised tonight was $2.3m

RFC raise 2.3mill tonight, 1 private group contributed just over 1 mill, great night KB & J Riewoldt spoke brilliantly

Footy show announced $2.5 million. Either way, 2.3 or 2.5, a great set of numbers. Great start to the season. We just need to roll the blues, and the coffers will open up some more. Well done to all involved.

2.5 a great figure but we're still $1,999,900 million short of debt eradication. Don't see us making the 6 million. After this event who is left to donate? We're also still $200,000 per year out of pocket from the Royal Oak, that's the player's contribution right there. Hate to be pessimistic but that's where it seems we stand.

Some quick maths and you will see that the clearing of the $4.5m debt is quite achievable.

I'm sure the club will hold a couple more of events like this.

$3k Entry x 300 people = 900k x2 Events = $1.8m before the night has begun.

Small contributions from supporters and other corporate people will go a long way also.

Lets not forget the extra $500k we are getting by playing a game in Cairns this year that wasn't there last year.

I can see the club quite easily eradicating this debt by years end and is a great job by all involved. :thumbsu:

Not to mention membership sales if we can perform ok this year, and going by previous threads, now we have a new sponsor, we will sell a bazillion jumpers/guernsey/jerseys.

Edited my post for accuracy ;)

Fair enough calls although small detail of the 300 guests quite a few wouldn't be putting money in (at least again) i.e. Players. Don't think we're counting the Cairns money towards the FTF but it is nice on our bottom line. Here's hoping eh!

One thing I can say is that 'Breaking the Cycle' article on the RFC site is one of the most candid, stirring things I've ever read. Gets the blood pumping for the year ahead!

And don't forget the revenue we can raise from functions in the new facility as well.

It mightn't officially go into the FTF, but wasn't the whole purpose of selling this (and the Darwin) game to put the extra dollars directly toward debt reduction?

Night hasn't finished, it goes til about 12:30
I'm already home though

I'd expect that 2.3m to be higher as it only included the big donation, that from the players and board, plus those who participated in the bidding through their electronic keypad. Those who didn't want to participate (and those at my table weren't a fan of the process) can donate privately and that wasn't included in the total

$2m more to go and our debt will be wiped clean, and then starts the building of the war chest!

Its actually not happening this way, they are splitting the FTF funds raised down the middle 50-50. Half to debt reduction, half to infrastructure. That way the infrastructure we need like resurfacing PRO and reserves side doesn't have to wait until the debt is gone.

The thing i have learnt in my life is unless its a income producing asset or your own home ...................... dont borrow money & pay debts asap.

Its actually a relief to me knowing that my club is debt free :thumbsu:

Debt isn't a bad thing if it is investing in something that will be worth more over time than if you were to just save from the beginning and pay for it entirely when you have enough

pretty sure the palyers are going to organise a night during the year to raise more money
