Not sure about Jamison. I think he is one of the most overrated players in our team, since his first season.

He might not even be on the list in 3 years' time.

Perhaps mightn't be the most attacking backman going round, but how often do u see bags of goals kicked on him?

Has played the key back position in an undersized backline for a while now. People rave about Scarlett, but how good would he be without the likes of Taylor, Enright around him?

Jamo's closing speed and fist to the ball is just about the best going round.

- The general concensus on here is that one of the No. 1's will probably take over the reigns as captain after Juddy.. well thoughts at the club suggest that #40 is the man.
No slight on #40, but I think #2 is our man.

As ever, thanks for the update BiB.

I'd like our next captain to be either Marc Murphy or Bryce Gibbs. I think Gibbsy is the man.

There is no shortage of leadership on our list. Anyone of JR, Gibbs, Murph, Simmo, Waite or Jammo could do the job. Several years down the track, you can throw Kruezer's name into that group as well. He's an inspiration on and off the field.

I'm liking our list a lot. We're about to enter another success era and it's going to be a good one.

:)

Absolutely for mine. In 4 or 5 years time when Juddy steps down it'll be one hell of an option if one Matthew Kruezer isn't captain of the Carlton football club. ;):thumbsu:

2008 and before is a long time ago

JR was second in our 2010 B&F

Can stand up in a big game, ask Steve J from Geelong. Also played a sensational final against Sydney.

I rate JR but I would have thought he would be VC material at best. Bryce, Murph or Simmo I feel are the next in line. Just my opinion though.

I reckon Kruez is a bit too quiet (he may develop though)... but sometimes it's just better to let some guys play rather than force them into a leadership role.

- Kreuzer tracking really well, and almost 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

Fantastic to hear that Kreuz is going well. We lost so much last season when he went down, not only in skill but also in effort and passion out on the field. I would love to see him in round 1. :thumbsu:

- Rhys O'Keeffe 100% in rookie draft, but may have to take him with our first or second pick, as a few interstate sides like what they see.

I believe that there is a form of gentleman's agreement between clubs that if a club wishes to demote a player from senior list to rookie list, they can do so with their last pick in the rookie draft.

Very glad to hear that ROK has been training well and will be taken as a rookie. Injuries have really cruelled him of an opportunity to show what he has to offer, so he deserves another shot. Looking forward to seeing what he can do when fit.

- Mitch Robinson one of, if not the standout on the track, and will be played as a midfielder next year.

That's what I love to hear :thumbsu:

Robbo is one of my favourites due to the effort he consistently displays out on the field. Really improved in year 2, but still has a long way to go. Needs to work on his endurance and his decision making, but if he has been a standout on the track, it may just be an indicator that he is well and truly on the way.

Many people have left him out of their best 22, but Robbo, with his effort, toughness, ball winning ability, and ability to be a goalkicking midfielder, could be a very valuable player for us in 2011 and beyond.

- Eyeing a few older VFL boys in the rookie draft. Will only take 1, but only if one of the 4 or 5 we want is still available. One being Hibberd, another being Pederson.

I have full confidence in WH and the recruiting team in their ability to find some quality in the rookie draft. Their track record speaks for itself. Doesn't worry me in the slightest if they are in the 21-24 category rather than kids. All I'm hoping for is some more depth through the middle, and a project ruckman.

- Marcus Davies will play a fair bit through the midfield next year.

Showed enough towards the end of last season to suggest that he is well and truly something to work with. Not sure how I feel about him moving into the middle on a permanent basis, but the more options we have to put in there, the better.
- Duigan on fire at training. Exceeded expectations by a long way.

Still very early, but it's always nice to hear that. I can't for the life of me see why we would recruit a 26 year old without a view to playing him straight away, but having said that his spot would be by no means assured. That he is pushing hard and making it difficult for those with power to ignore him at this stage, is as good a sign as we could hope for.

Jamo has always struck me as captain material. Would not be agaist him getting the nod post-Juddy at all. A leader on and off the field.

- Austin looking great, and club wants him in the team from Rd 1, all season.

Brilliant to hear. We really could have used Austin late last year when Jamo and especially Bower were playing with injuries. This shapes as a vital year for Aussie, so the fact that he's fit and firing from the beginning of the preseason is important, for him and for the club. We've no doubt put pressure on him with our latest drafting, so here's hoping he steps up to the plate and delivers what some of us know he is capable of. Would love to see him in Navy Blue come round 1.

As always, thanks for your info. Might sometimes be very hit and miss, but it is much appreciated by those of us that have no official source at the club.

From the things I hear and know about, Jamo should definitely be next in line for captaincy (at this stage at least). One of the few at our club who's got a mature head and leads by example on and off the field. Massive Jamo fan in regards to his on field efforts, but also what I hear about the way he carries himself off the field. Our #1's (not including Kreuz man) have some maturing to do before they're even considered for leadership roles imo.

Agree with the Jamo sentiments. My only concern is whether it's possible to captain an AFL team from FullBack. What I like about Jamo, is he always keeps his cool even when the backline is getting hammered. He won't drop his head and dummy spit. And when things are going well, he never drops his guard. A fantastic leader and role model. He's pretty much the rock down back that we're building our defensive unit around.

:)

Prob a stupid idea, but I wouldn't mind seeing a Captain who plays midfield (Gibbs/Simpson/Murphy in that order) and x2 VC, one in the backline (Jamo) and one in the forward line (Henderson), each assigned a role to control their own section of the field.

Judd probably won't give up the captaincy for another 3 or 4 years, I'd think by then Kreuzer, Gibbs and Henderson would probably be the leading candidates.

Kruze is a humble kid - don't mistake this for a lack of leadership qualities.
So disciplined, so professional already, it will take an exceptional option to surpass him when he's in his mid 20s.

Jamo, needs to lead on field as well as off it. He went backwards this year, kicking was variable, got out muscled on a many occasions and decision making was often poor, putting team mates under the pump deep in defense. He also needs to get more of the pill and provide more run. The next two years will tell the story, with a number of young KPP talls drafted. Jamo will need to improve to hold his spot, let alone be a captain candidate.

Name a game where a FF kicked a bag on him Jaydee, you seem pretty sure of how far backwards he went.

I can't really recall one off the top of my head. Versus Williams was probably his worst performance.

Stop listening to Robert Walls and actually look at it objectively.

I don't buy this 'Jamo needs to provide more run' rubbish. How much run does Dale Morris provide? Jamison performs his primary role - which is to blanket his opponent - exceptionally well, and we should leave the rebounding to blokes like Armfield, Bower and Russell.

You mean like our current captain? Judd isn't particularly vocal either. They do share certain attributes though. They are both very professional, have insane work ethics and the make everyone around them walk that little bit taller.

The rookie rules are difficult to find these days. The AFL site keeps removing things and moving them around.

Pity, because I like to have these reference sources on hand.

Is there a rule about senior listed player automatically being allowed to go on the rookie list if not picked up in the national draft?

Different to the Jacobs situation because he was already a rookie.

If you do manage to find them (and others) why not copy & sticky-note them here (with ref hyperlinks of course)?
