Ladies and Gentlemen,

To celebrate the league's 40th season we here at TiFmedia have commissioned the '40 for 40' for special recognition during the Heritage Round festivities.

Having consulted the 'history books' (SweetFA+, thank you once again Hate as always), we have compiled two teams of the greatest Sweet FA players to ever grace our great game. One to celebrate the legends of the early years Seasons 1-20, and the other to recognise the modern greats from Seasons 21-40.

The selection process was based on All-SFA selections, with some minor positional considerations sprinkled in based on where they were selected, or where they have plied their trade. It must be noted that of course there are some very stiff individuals who have missed out on selection, as whittling down over 2300 players from almost 25 years of Qooty into two elite teams of 20 that could potentially face off against each other in battle (bcc: Gralin) is no mean feat. In particular, those players who have spanned the eras during their peak may consider themselves hard done by, and I would like to hear all about that...

11zMGmY.png

See, as an inclusive community I think it's only fair that this spark a broader discussion to refine these teams... and so 'The Great Debate' may commence. Who was stiff to miss? Who is the glaring omission? Who demands a spot in one of these sides at the expense of another all time great? Who sticks out like dogs balls having been selected? Do you have a case to make for someone who was overlooked?

Did the league get it right all these years on?

Over the next page or so I will reveal the teams for both eras, and look forward to some healthy and courteous debate on what changes should be made for us to reach consensus on the '40 for 40'

Happy Heritage Round!!

- TiF

If GWS Goose has not been left out, then I am calling BS
They're basing it on all SFA selections to amplify their earlier snubs and almost certainly leave me out despite being consistently one of the best in the league.
Likely to be salt in the wounds.
Crazy selection criteria.

Everyone loves a good milestone team, when are you going to post one?

The one above ... not so sure.

That team is pretty good for all the old players.

Mate, these guys were playing Qooty in Baghdad while you were still in your Dad's bag.

S1-S20 All-SFA XX

Here we have it Sweet FA... your S1-S20 provisional All-SFA side in all it's glory.

Now straight off the bat, yes there's some obvious and glaring omissions I know. I agree. 🧐

But rather than me offer a subjective TiFmedia biased team when I wasn't even here, we've chosen to select a baseline provisional side based purely on the All-SFA selections made during the era, which is completely objective on that basis.

This should then allow for some healthy and robust debate on who demands a spot in this side, and who should probably be omitted by comparison.

League legends assemble!!

Now onto the S21-S40 side representing the modern era...

The former EKA Medallist has just cruised past 200 games as a now 3 club veteran, and has amassed no fewer than 7 All-SFA selections since S30. In fact all 7 have been as a defender, which secures him a firm place in the backline here. He captained the Dragons to a flag in S32 during his 3 season stint at the helm, has a Frankston Rover Award to his name, and is a 3 time club BnF winner.

JoshWoodenSpoon
Full Back
The former Bears skipper is fast approaching 300 games and Sweet FA life membership, and has been another consistent feature in All-SFA backlines in the modern era, with 7 career selections of his own since S24. Was a back to back beez Trophy winner in S25 & S26, captained his beloved Bears for 4 seasons where he unearthed stars like Barrybran, Test Tickle & kdavva and is a 2 time club BnF winner at Las Vegas. Oh and he won a TFLUA-Tiger Medal while he was at it in S37.

Mobbs
Back Pocket

What's even left to say about Mobbs at this point? Qooty's grand creator perhaps a little oddly finds himself a shoe-in for a spot in the S21-40 side despite being here from the very start, as the records show that he has been at his most prolific in the modern era when it comes to accolades. Ok so here we go... the game's creator, former admin, HOF and then Immortal HOF all by S16, 5 time premiership player across 3 clubs spanning from his first in S2 with the Hurricanes to his most recent in S35 with the Old Boys. 2 Frankston Rover Awards, no less than 10 seasons as a skipper of the Roys, and even has a leading goalkicker award to his name. Has 6 career All-SFA selections under his belt, 3 of those in a row between S26-28 and 4 of his 6 have come in the modern era.

Half Back
In a career spanning all the way back to a Season 3 debut leading the long defunct Junkyard Dogs, the 552 gamer is now a HOFer and an 8 club veteran but is perhaps most synonymous with the Bears where he racked up 229 games. He would also go on to lead the Wonders from S26-29, collected a Fred Medal in Season 25 as a Swamprat, and in a successful stint at the Roys he would win a 2nd flag and win a Frankston Rover Award. With 6 career All-SFA selections between S25-39 he is truly on of the modern day greats.

manangatang
Centre Half Back
The long term Dees skipper led from the front for 10 seasons in charge and is one of the most respected leaders in the game, chalking up 252 games with his Dees and counting from his 273 games to date. A beez Trophy winner in S28, 2 time premiership player including one as Demons captain in S31, a 3 time club BnF, Frankston Rover Award winner in S36, 'GM of Qooty' and a HOFer all in the same season and a prolific 7 All-SFA selections between S26-S36 making his selection here a fait accompli.

Wosh
Half Back

The recently minted Sweet FA life member and 309 gamer Wosh has enjoyed a storied career since making a stellar debut as the EKA Medallist in S22. A 3 club veteran, including a 4 season stint as skipper at the Warriors where she unearthed yours truly amongst many other quality contributors, she's a 2 time club BnF winner, 3 time leading goalkicker, Frankston Rover Award winner in S35, HOF in S38 and saluted with a famous flag in S33 with the Roys and fellow backline selection Dingster. Combine that with 6 career All-SFA selections between S20-S37 and Wosh is another automatic selection in the elite players of the modern era.
