Hello and welcome to Qooty Qlashbacks.

I’m your host TheInjuryFactory, and today we will be taking another trip down memory lane, as we revisit one of the Sweet F.A’s classic encounters.

Today, in celebration of Heritage Round, we remember the thrilling Season 22 clash between the East Side Hawks and the Coney Island Warriors.

It was Wooshette’s first season as skipper at the Coney Island Warriors, and we caught up with the returning S27 captain, as she recalled her memories of her inaugural season at the helm back in Season 22.

Season 22 was probably my favourite season, this place was full of real characters and personalities with genuine humour and campaignerery. I think most of the real superstars of the competition were at their best and there was no hiding behind anyone's skirts in those days, if you f***ed up as a captain you copped a public pasting and wore it like a man, it was what made this place so incredibly fun and interesting! The atmosphere of the League then is what sticks in my mind the most.

Joe walking out 10 minutes before the season started to join the Royals. My first season in the committee and being in the simming committee too really opened my eyes.

While it was a must win game for the Warriors, both teams were stuck in a log jam in the middle of the ladder heading into the Round 9 match, with the Hawks just 2 points ahead on the ladder. The sides had mixed fortunes coming into the clash, with the victor likely to solidify their finals chances, whilst the losers would find themselves adrift of the eight at the mid-point of the season.

The Hawks, moved into 7th spot on the ladder with a come from behind win over the Dragons in Round 8. After trailing by 15 points at the 10 minute mark of the last quarter, the Hawks proved too strong for the Dragons, as the hosts were defeated by 12 points. The win saw the Hawks move into the eight.

Two late goals to go with 24 touches from attacking half back flanker go you pups late in the game sealed the win, while Mr Eagle (24 disposals, 7 marks and 2 goals), Brown Bottle (21 touches) and Doctor Colossus (22 disposals and a goal) were the Hawks best. Dragons ruckman Hate (12 hitouts, 22 touches and 2 majors), cammo6556 (27 disposals 7 tackles and a goal) and Spanna_ (28 possessions, 5 marks) fought hard all day for the hosts.

Dragons FFC defeated by East Side Hawks by 12 points at Dragon Island.

While the Warriors, after fighting valiantly for 4 quarters saw their late comeback snuffed out, as the game went right down to the wire. A last minute goal from the Bombers’ Citroin destroying any hope Coney Island had of snatching an unlikely victory from the jaws of defeat, after they had closed within 2 points at the 24 minute mark, erasing a 25 point deficit heading into the last quarter. The loss saw them slip out of the eight to 9th on the ladder.

Bombers ruckman Koh Phi (15 hitouts, 18 disposals and 2 goals) was dominant in the ruck, well supported by CrAzYjAcKs (26 disposals, 6 marks) and dennis crumpet (19 touches, 10 tackles and a goal). Warriors full forward PackedLunch kept them in the contest all day kicking a bag of 6, while Jazny (18 touches, 8 marks and 2 majors) half back BoshtrichBurger (20 touches) and zackah (17 disposals and 8 marks) competed strongly for the Warriors.

Coney Island Warriors lost to Baghdad Bombers by 8 points at Van Cortlandt Park.

The Hawks went into the game favourites, with the pundits expecting a 20 point win for the East Side outfit at home on Waverley Park. League veteran Ant Bear remarked during the week that the clash would “further congest the ladder or relegate the Warriors to battler status.”

The build up, according to The Filth Wizard, was "...humorous chat with a little snark mixed in" and he believed the Hawks would, as they had grown accustomed to on their home deck, "...all walk off the field high fiving for a job well done and into the Waverley Gardens 'casino' for some pots and schnitzel."

Wooshette gave us an insight her first impressions of that Hawks side.
Wooshette, your schnitzel is dry and tasteless, always has been.

Impressive away winners the previous week, the East Side Hawks went into the game unchanged, with powerhouse co-captains Mr Eagle and Doctor Colossus selecting the same side, full of confidence at home.

With centreman candiehappy on personal leave from the club that week, the Warriors had just the one forced change, however they took advantage and shuffled the deck looking for a change in fortune. Ruckman RedVest4 moved into the centre, with zackah moved to the interchange to allow Kabanna to start in the middle, while Benwah83 replaced Vesty in the ruck after being left out of the side that went down to the Bombers.

The Hawks jumped the Warriors in the first few minutes, with goals through go you pups and Mr Eagle seeing them draw first blood. The Warriors hit back through Kabanna and defender Raveneyes, who chipped in to level the scores at the ten minute mark. A seesawing first quarter saw both midfields battle for supremacy, with Mr Eagle and Reginald Perrin engaging in a scintillating battle on the wing. The Hawks taking a slim 4 point lead into the first break.

Coney Island Warriors 3.5.23

The Warriors lifted their physical pressure in the second quarter, as they started to open up a handy lead early in the 2nd. Morganashlee attacked from half back, banging home two for the Warriors, while Mr_Smooth kicked two successive long bombs to give the Warriors a 4 goal lead. A reply from The Filth Wizard briefly arrested momentum, however as Benwah83 got on top in the ruck, the Warriors were taking first use out of the centre clearances. Mr_Smooth kicked his third for the quarter from half back, while inside mid Kabanna’s 3rd for the match stretched the Warriors lead to to 49 points heading into time on. Warriors ruckman Benwah83 was completely dominant at the stoppages as an 11 goal to 1 2nd quarter saw the Warriors head into the main break with a massive 55 point lead.

East Side Hawks 5.5.35
Coney Island Warriors 14.6.90

The Hawks got their game going early in the third, with full forward The Filth Wizard and co-captain Doctor Colossus capitalising on opportunist goals against the run of play. The Hawks wrestled ascendancy in the ruck, but the Warriors, through half forwards Freofalcon and toxic, launched repeated forward entries, resulting in two quick goals to fellow small forward Morganshlee who was running amok in the pocket. The Warriors regained control of the midfield mid way through the quarter, as 6 successive clearances saw the Warriors lining up to hit the scoreboard, and when Morganashlee registered her 5th with 5 minutes left on the clock, the Warriors had stretched their lead to 72 points.

Hawks fans were leaving in droves as the siren sounded to start the last quarter, and those who left wouldn’t have regretted their decision. The Hawks were wasteful early, with go you pups and The Filth Wizard both missing easy chances in the first 5 minutes. Hawks small forward Karnezis_13 offered some resistance, as he managed to convert two chances from the pocket against the run of play, but by this point the Warriors had put the cue in the rack. They still managed a run of 3 goals to forwards DapperJong, Morganashlee and Mr_Smooth, and a late goal by ruckman Benwah83 and the Warriors held a game high 113 point lead. while A late consolation goal to Kegs on Legs was barely acknowledged by the forward, as a dejected Hawks resigned themselves to one of their biggest losses at Waverley Park, with the gravity of the loss sinking in. A famous Warriors victory in the end, with first year skipper Wooshette jubilant at the siren.

11 individual goal kickers equaled a club record for the Warriors, while their score of 31.8.194 is still currently the 5th highest score in Sweet F.A history.

Kabanna of the Coney Island Warriors scored 3 Mobbs votes for his best afield performance, notching up 30 touches, 7 tackles and 4 goals from ruck rover feasting on Benwah83’s ruck dominance.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Hmmmmmmmmm.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Woosh remembers well that first season in charge, and some of her favourite Warrior teammates that year who joined in on the big win.

We had a terrific and very funny crew, players like toxic, Packedlunch, Benwah83 made me absolutely piss myself every week. Frankie was at his best, DapperJong, zackah and my old mate Freofalcon were unstoppable.. I loved them all and still do!

Well, thank you for joining us as we relived the historic season 22 clash in honour of this week’s match between the Coney Island Warriors and East Side Hawks as we celebrate Season 27 Heritage Round.

Join us soon for another installment of Qooty Qlashbacks, as we relive another memorable Sweet F.A epic!

For the Warriors it probably is yeah?

Plus it mirrors this week's heritage round match up. :thumbsu:

How so, genuinely curious and not shitposting now.
Apologies it was actually S25, before my time but we wore the original OFG warriors kit for heritage round.
