Prior to the game I predicted a 5 goal win by Richmond but in the end I was very disappointed in a 37 point victory as we really need to be able to put a team away and give them a hammering when we have them on the ropes like we had them last night.

As Frawley mentioned in the post game interview on Ch9 we got soundly beaten out of the middle and it has been a problem for us over the last few years (longer actually) and I see that as area that Rodan will be able to help rectify over the coming years if he can continue to develop along with Mark Coughlan if he can step up. They hopefully will form a strong nucleus in the future. Rodan showed great vision when he spotted up Stafford in the last qtr instead of blazing away at goal. Great stuff by a young kid.

Nathan Buckley is Collingwood period. D.K should be back and by our next encounter with the Pies and do his usual bang up job on him.

Ray Hall is not a full back. Alhough Cummings kicked 5 goals last night which Hall couldn’t have done much about is still would prefer to see Hall up the ground on a wing where he would be a hard match-up.

Brad Ottens, nuff said what a sensational player he is.

Richo played a great game also and was given top votes by Gary Lyon but I thought Nathan Buckley or Ottens should have been given that accolade.

Matty Rogers bump on Wakelin was great hard football and I would like to see more of it from him although I would also like to see him work on his left foot kicking too.

Tivendale was terrific (to phrase an oft used Frawleyism). His fitness base was far superior to Dimattina as the iso shot showing him running to make position and eventually finding himself on the end of the ball for a snap from the pocket showed. Dimattina was not even in the hunt and looked totally spent.

Krakouer also showed glimpses of class to kick 2 goals and a Michael Long like tap on in the center of the ground in the last quarter was exquisite not to mention the tackle that he laid on Lockyer (?) that was a red hot holding the ball.

Darren Gaspar did his usual job on Chris Tarrant (Chris Talent – what a joke).

Greg Stafford and Adam Houlihan showed that they are going to be top recruits and if Stafford can stand up all year then he will only get better. He didn’t seem to be able to get off the ground much last night and was beaten quite often by Rocca at the center bounce but he will improve with fitness.

As I said in a previous post, it was good that none of our players got over 20 possesions meaning that the load was spread across many rather than the few. This will be hard for opposition to stop!

That said, if we play like that against the Bombers next week, we will be smashed to little bits!

Surprisingly, Collingwood dominated us in the stop play situations and it was only thorugh their abysmal disposal that we were able to win possesion of the ball.

Why is it that we can beat teams who are great in the stop ball situations but then fall apart against Collingwood who really should struggle here? Maybe there was a significant element of complacency here?

If Ray Hall is to play full back, he should do so in a manner that seeks to blunt his opponents main strength. It is well known that Cummings main means of kicking goals comes from marking the ball on the lead. He rarely takes marks in pack situation. As big and fat as is, you must admit that he is quick off the mark - as quick as most over 15 - 20 metres. It was here that he beat Hall all night. Hal should have stood 2 - 3 metres in front of him and on the inside line, forcing him to lead wide.

Don't worry about the ball going over your head as Cummings isn't likely to come through and crash a pack.

Surely Spud will be telling Hall this - not that he will be likely to be picking up Lloyd next week. That honour will go to Gaspar!

Didn't the play seem to liven up once Rodan (D-Rod apparently) went near the ball. He is just so quick over the ground - mark him down for next week and please give him more ground time.

well done Tigers great game  it's always good to win in round 1 and beat the Pies :D,i think we have a really chance of beating the Bombers next Friday night.Brad Ottens was so good kicked 4 goals took some good marks :) n Richo was good and kicked stright.
