Re: Melbourne getting an increased salary cap
March said he was ''absolutely flabbergasted'' Hawks president Andrew Newbold and Collingwood's Eddie McGuire recently suggested the best manner in which to help struggling clubs, such as Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs, was to allow them to have an enlarged salary-cap next season.

Re: Sydney signing Tippett

''That is an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed. When you look at the financials for 2013, and the premiers of the competition are forecasting to make a loss, if any of the Melbourne clubs forecast to make a loss and then went and paid $800,000 to get a player in, we would be getting hauled in front of the commission.

Re: Mebourne getting a priority pick

March also opposes any club seeking a priority pick, which is now awarded at the discretion of the AFL Commission. The hapless Demons sought this pick on Friday.

Good to see he's going out swinging.

My mind still boggles that the reigning premier can afford to spend a million dollars on a player without losing anyone.

It is the cash and priority pick Melbourne are after that is just as galling.

Firstly the AFL fine them $500-600k because they transgressed. If they turn around and give them the money back what has the exercise achieved? Related to this, their transgression arguably should have seen them excluded from drafts and now they are seeking extra picks when the issue the AFL had was they acted in a way prejudicial to the draft in their tanking or whatever it was. How can that be allowed.

Whilst they traded for it, they have Jesse Hogan coming in next year, plus in all likelihood a top 3 selection regardless of how the year plays out. They have a number of other first round draft picks. What they need to do is suck it up and go again like all other teams have had to do in their position.

I recall it was only 3 or 4 years ago our start to the season was likened, in fact held up as the worst team in recent history in the AFL, a basket case. Benny was then on board, we had started a list rebuild, invested in recruitment and we are now in a position to seriously challenge for for a decent top 8 spot this year.

This should be the response to Melbourne. Get your s*** together, do things properly and work your own way out of it. Drafts are no longer materially compromised so start their journey now and they could be competitive next year and competing again in a 2-3 years.

Bit hard to argue against Gary, but I wonder if the alf will find a way :rolleyes:

The AFL are a law unto themselves .... do not need to find a way, they can do it because they feel like it .... the only problem they will have is in spin doctoring it, to make it believeable to the smart football supporters who see through their BS.

Nail hit head.. :thumbsu:

Good onya Gary,We took our medicine over the last 4yrs,Did a slow rebuild and somehow cameout the other end through 2 compromised drafts in better shape without going to the AFL for priority picks.Grow some balls Melbourne or Merge.

good on march. spot on.

if the afl were smart they'd actually listen to kennet atm and sack the board and appoint him. he has a good track record imo.

to get the dees right on field they don't need $2mil to poach players (who'd want to go there?). I'd instruct them to go after the best state league players and draft 4-6 of them to go straight into the midfield, target big bodied hard at it players. much more cost effective. target ready made kids in the draft over 184 and at least 80kg's+ then target a ruck such as warnock from the blues. 1st round pick is un-tradeable for 3-4 years get kids into the system. oh and get the ex crows recruiter rendell, he's one of the best.

Think the club and the fans can hold their heads up high and say that we didn't get down on our knees and plead for help. We clawed our way out of the hole we were in and look seemingly ready to start climbing the ladder back to the top.

At least our club has a bit of backbone and fight. Melbourne are just waiving the white flag on and off the field and again are looking for the easy way out. Pretty funny hearing Melbourne fans complaining about how hard things are - pretty sure they've made more finals appearances since 2000 than I've seen in my lifetime following richmond. Their culture and fans are soft - our culture may not have been great and been labelled as feral, deluded or even impatient but soft is something we've never been.

Gary 'this is how we're gonna game the competition' March, always bleating on for the last decade or so that someone has worked it out better than him, always long after the fact.

And a whole bunch of people elbowing their way through to pat him on the back for eventually getting around to whinging about his failure to work out what was going on and how to advantage Richmond, yet again.

[insert yawn emoticon]

A decent read of the transcript over the last eight years, places the 'who shall I bankrupt next' El Presidente extraordinaire firmly on the side of Melbourne and tanking. But he'll happily whinge away now the cards have fallen where they did.

That man deserves words like 'Tigers' and 'claws' next to his name in the same article about as much as Melbourne deserve to win the 2013 flag.

March is a smart operator. In many ways we have him to thank for the turn around of this club

the AFL? lets put it this way, here we have media networks bidding for the tv rights correct? Now how ****ing stupid are they, when we all know its a bidding war and one has the last right of refusal correct?
The question I ask is, if one network offered 10 mill and the other offered 12 and then the right of refusal one offered 13, what would the AFL do? the dickheads...FFS, sometimes i shake my head as to why they get 800 mill...when ****ing blind freddy knows that if it aint on TV the comp DIES!!!
