Tigers know how to put on a show

Brilliant use of noise, colour and boards at the G tonight. Richmond must love turning up to that every home game, especially when the going is good.

Love the boards showing players, slogans etc the graphics are beautifully made.

Jungle is a fantastic tune - I just wish it was even louder. Fantastic.

Obviously even the biggest Richmond haters have to smile at the 'Yellow and Black' call from tens of thousands.

Aside from getting towelled up, it was a great night. And, as a fellow Crows supporter or three displayed, even their song is easy to dance to.

One thing I dont like, or perhaps dont get, is the drums. I dont think they add anything at all, I dont understand their purpose.

But overall, 7/10 (as good as Ive seen in Aus) - sorry, I havent seen anything in Aus yet to compare to NBA/NHL.

What games have you been to at oppo grounds and thought they do things well pre-game?

They had years to perfect their light show.
Have you ever seen a Richmond membership ticket in a microwave

Really all supporters are just people and the majority people are good. Every club has a few dickheads and everyone's opinion on a clubs supporterbase is just based off the few of the tens or hundreds thousands that they actually interact with.

All clubs deserve success at some point. Every club has diehard fans that are almost all good poeple.
All clubs except Carlton of course

Went to Carl-Coll game earlier in the year, Jetstar gave a whole row return airfares for 2 to HK, impressive, but tonight's $100k if the dude kicks a goal from 50m, outrageous, can't believe the guy hung it out to the right, think thats an AFL thing though and will be at every game.

They have to find something to engage people, because the football is as boring as batshit.

Personally, I like the games with big crowds and few gimmicks.
I reckon the SA games come across the best on telly but I've never been.
MCG when it's 80k+ is what it's all about though.
I went to finals and H/A games at both last year. AO rocks and I've never seen it at anything but close to capacity with the Crows. I did go to the Port game in 2016 in foul weather and it was understandably tame.
ANZ in 2016 with a 60k crowde was wierd in comparison. The aisles on the upper levels are separated so you feel like an outsider in a little group looking on.

The G with a 90k crowd is in a class of it's own though. Both the infrastructure to keep a big crowd comfortable and the atmosphere.

Some of the live atmosphere is great, but I wish they'd shut up occasionally or allow some organic supporter engagement rather than the deafening commercialised crap they push at every break in play. This article by Greg Baum sums up my feelings:

There are tens of thousands of passionate fans that just want to enjoy the footy, we don't need a (literal) pony show to go with it. The Richmond Grog Squad is more authentic, passionate and real than anything pushed by the club on game day. Also, what they've done to our song is a travesty and detracts from the gameday experience.

I agree with many that they need to shut up mid game and at breaks, I just love a good pregame show. Gets the vibe up if done well.

Whatever you say, Richmond must not have put on an entertaining second quarter must have been all in my head, because you know saying anything remotely positive about Richmond just triggers the poor Adelaide supporters so much

FFS the thread is literally applauding Richmond for the entire gameday experience and was created by an Adelaide supporter, how thick are you?

Which it rarely is. Richmond do have a big advantage of a massive support that is loyal to the core that makes any pregame stuff seem fantastic in terms of atmosphere.

The Tigers are probably also the best at having that balance between artificial noise and just genuine fan support. As much as I enjoy the BBL over the summer, the constant PA noise is enough to turn me off going to games later in the season. Music between every ball etc. During genuine 'intermissions' have that sort of roar, air-raid, music etc type noise - but otherwise let the crowd dictate the noise. Tiges have a fanbase that allows them to do so.

Personally I really like the drums, surprised so many dont. for me makes me feel like its getting ready for battle, cant explain why just get that feel from it

And yes cant stand when there is too much blaring of music and someone screaming over the PA to manufacture noise. I really noticed it at the pies v richmond game earlier this season, gave me a headache

This thread is a prime example of why people hate richmond fans.

Agree, don't see the point of the drums.

When they were first brought in, it was a nice innovation...."Jungle drums", adding to the build up to the players coming onto the ground.

It got the crowd involved early, added to the atmosphere, set the tone, and in doing so possibly even pumped up the players that little bit more.

That was a couple of years back though and it's gotten a bit tired, and while less effective now it probably does have some of the same effects. I dare say if they could come up with a better idea it'd be out pretty quickly.

I bet the drummers think it's a good gig though.

Dont mind the drums. Not a fan of any of the crowd involvement stuff during the game though. Footy park used to shoot crows gear into the crowd with high powered air guns at half time. Towels from memory. That was pretty cool.

I've seen that at the G before, can't remember the details though...Might have been at the cricket.

BTW...I initially read this as "Footy park used to shoot crows...".
