RICHMOND coach Terry Wallace yesterday flagged the club's interest in pursuing Fremantle giant Robert Warnock.
The 206-centimetre, 21-year-old Docker, who was drafted in 2005 from Sandringham under 18s but has played only 21 games, is out of contract this season and has indicated he wants to return home.
The Tigers, with Troy Simmonds playing a lone hand in the ruck while Adam Pattison and former Bomber Tristan Cartledge develop, are in desperate need of another tall centre-square option.
Fremantle is trying to hold Warnock, with coach Mark Harvey yesterday lashing out at Melbourne for making a presentation to the player last week. "I thought it was an interesting tactic," Harvey said. "I don't think he (Warnock) has been affected by what appears to be an ambush."
Wallace said yesterday he was certain the Tigers would talk to Warnock about the possibility of coming to Punt Road.
"He's a big boy, he's a big lad. And he's a Melbourne-based boy who looks clearly like he's coming back to Melbourne," Wallace said. "Of course, from a recruiting perspective, we'd be in the marketplace.
"My job at this time of the year is to concentrate on the last two games of the season and let the recruiting boys do what they need to do. I don't like to get clouded between the two at this stage of the year but we probably are looking for another ruckman, so he'd be on our radar."

Mentions in that article that Warnock could recieve up to $1mil for a 3 year deal. My question is would you be happy for the club to put an relatively untried ruckmen on that sort of money? Considering a number of people weren't happy we put 100+ game McMahon on that I'm interested to see if people opinions are different regarding Warnock.

Geez that is insane money for a kid that has done bugger all. Just because he is 200cm+ doesn't mean he is an automatic star.

Let alone the high draft pick he would cost to pick him up.

Let Melbourne chase him, they have a priority pick they can waste on a player with that magical word 'potential' and bugger all else to back it up.

Miller didnt do what he needed to do because we probably are looking for another ruckman = no faith, no hope and we are going to pay over the odds for an unproven ruckman.

The one thing in his favour is that most of the negatives about him here have been about him not being able to get a gig in the Freo team. Kind of hard in my book to have two giants in Sandilands & Warnock in the same team, so IMO it aint an issue.

you usually get this from supporters who havent had a competitive ruck combo for the best part of 10 years. By what you are suggesting, if the tigers had Ottens & Blake as the ruck combo this year, we wouldnt be a better side and most likely inside the 8 as we speak, correct?

So true. That's how we signed up Royce Hart! That and a promise to his parents to look after him properly in Melbourne is how the stroy went I believe.

This is what years of list mismanagement has brought us to. Simmonds almost finished and Pattison not to answer. Leaves 2 players and a rookie. Pathetic. Still I feel our best bet is in the national draft.

Meesen never cracked a senior game, warnock has looked impressive in his games! first use of the ball but actually does well around the ground for a tall beanpole.

I think we should definitely chase him, definite keeper and will play another 8-10 yrs of AFL.

He hurt his back in the preseason. Only hit form midseason and was an immediate selection.

While playing he averaged 11 disposals 9 hitout and 3 clearances. Not bad considering he had about 40% game time.

Sounds like a duplicate of our very own Pattison and if I was a supporter from another club I doubt I would be willing to give away an early 2nd rounder to get Patto.

Except with more game time and another year or two's developement. He'll lead a ruck. At 206cm with an armspan equal with Sandilands and a decent leap, he has all the capabilities of being a lead ruckman. Pattison is undersized and ideally suited as a 2nd ruckman.

One years development. Wouldnt think their game time would be a lot different.

And just because you're a perfect sized athlete for the role, which Warnock is compared to Patto, doesnt mean you're going to become a good footballer as well. I'm probably being a bit cynical but I cant help it.
