I'm worried the sheer weight of numbers and emotional links will land wallace to hawthorn. There'll be a sign on the boardroom door "Welcome home Terry".

Not all emotional links with Hawthorn, however , will work the hawks way.

Terry was not invited to the clubs Hall Of Fame and was shunned to some extent over his decision to leave Hawthorn back in 1986.

This might involve older people there and not so much the people trying to get him back such as Brereton and Dunstall.

Having said all that, I think Wallace wants to win a premiership as he feels as if that is keeping him out of the Mathews, Sheedy category of coaches and will choose the club that gives him the best opportunity of that. It probably comes back to finances and stability in the end.

I still have my doubts about Wallace coming to us because of his oft-repepeated desire to go to a club not burdened by salary cap issues. If we go to 97% of the cap as is forshadowed, then surely that goes against this requirement of his? Hawks would not be so restricted with $6m in the bank.

It's easy to see how off-field mismanagement has a lot to do with on-field performance and potential...

Only positive sign seen from Wallace as to Richmond so far is his comment that we are "18 months ahead of Hawthron with respect to the kids"...

97% isnt a bad thing in a way UTGS.with the expected delistings of a fair few more "senior players" and another influx of youth 97% of the salary is about right if you consider the ratio of the "senior" players and the cubs.

cheers!

Agree wholeheartedly - not a fan of us paying 100% unnecessarily (as we've arguably been doing for a while now). I think Wallace would just like to be able to go to 100% if someone became available).

I think the Ben Holland finance finishes this year, saving $175K I think

Other savings:

Hilton: $100K
Fiora: $150K
Nicholls: base, say $65K
Hooligan: $same
Fleming(?): $75K
Fletcher: $55K
Hall(?): $150K
Marsh: $65K
Rogers: $100K
1 of Tuck/ Tivo/ Chaff: $150K (hope it's not Tivendale)

That adds up to almost $1m. 6 draft picks = around $350K with room to move for natural increases etc. Also discounts any saving from Gas renegotiating/ extending his contract or leaving.

So, 5% saving not at all hard to do - might even be able to slip in a Luke Hodge and fit in at or below 97%!!

Also remember that Richo will join Campbell on the veterens list, so half their salaries fall outside the salary cap. There is also a "marketing allowance" on top of the salary cap, some of which would be going Coughlan's way given his marketing role at the club this year. We should have about 12-15 1st and second year players next year, who will be on the minimum wages of around $50k plus $2K per match. With the retirements of Rogers and Kellaway and the Holland ballast gone, we really should be cruising on 97%.
