Tigs First Ever Mock Draft

Great draft Tigs, really good reading.

I think Geelong's needs are different to how you've gone though, although I am really a Broomhead fan.

As our pursuit of Boak (and now Caddy) shows, we need mids mids and more mids, and maybe a key defender late (although we will get Bourke late and arguably he could play either end). We're pretty stocked for medium defenders and most other things.

I think at #16 (or whatever it ends up being) we will take the best possible mid still on the board, the only players we might make an exception for are Stringer who as you point out we were really keen on last year, or possibly Menzel for obvious reasons.

I see Broomhead as a mid long term. But he is versatile to play anywhere. Carter I think could turn into a mid too but he was just too good to pass up there. Duffy I see as a Stevie J replacement. I also think he needs to go to a club with a strong culture like yours. Otherwise he may just end up being a wasted talent. Bourke can play KPD. Is Mitch Brown likely to stay back or go fwd next year?

tigs2010, are you going to bring your phantom up to date on the draft picks?
Yer I will probably at some stage. Spending a bit of time making some profiles on the Richmond page for our supporters. Will do maybe end of the week. Going to take a bit of time because it's a fair way off. :p

2nd Round

32. Essendon - Jesse Lonergan (Midfielder)
Height: 183cm
Weight: 86kg
Club: Launceston
Range: 30-Rookie
Description:Lonergan is a tough contested inside ball-winner. He is the cousin of Essendon’s Sam. Not an elite kick by any stretch of the imagination but you would be drafting him for his work on the bottom of the packs. Missed a chunk of this season with injury but came back for second half of champs. 35 of his 49 possessions were contested at the champs. He started to hit the scoreboard at the champs as well, with 4 goals in the last 2 games against NSW/ACT and NT.

If Lonergan slips to rookie, or even outside the top 40, I'll delete my account and stop following AFL. Has to be remembered that he was coming off a knee injury when he was brought in for the last three games of the champs. Both he and Thurlow's performances for Launceston have been excellent since the champs.I have Lonergan going from 15-30. Can't see him falling much further than 30, but Robinson got to 40, so who knows? Lonergan is an even better prospect at this stage than Mitch was. And Sam is his uncle, btw.

I like your draft though, you have gone outside the norms with a few picks, which is good to see. Detailed write ups on each player is excellent too. Nice work.

In my defence I wrote that a fairly long time ago. Think he'll be snapped up 13-25. 30 would be absolute latest. I need to update this soon. Both the order, add in some other players I like and adjust the ranges.

Ahh, that's fair enough. I prob would have agreed with you awhile ago too whilst he was still injured/recovering.

updated my national draft. Haven't done a rookie draft yet. Pretty sure the no. of selections is accurate unless teams take delisted free agents.

Brilliant work tigs. While I wouldn't be unhappy with Macrae, Atkins, Sumner and Baldasso I don't think they really address our need for inside mids though. Otherwise I think you've nailed it, and that's pretty damn close to what will unfold on draft day IMO.

Nice update! I only pay attention to the Tasmanians, so forgive my biased input. But I am particularly happy with Siggins at 49. Not many of the other phantoms even have him going, which I think could be a mistake. Big boy with good endurance and skills, will develop into a prototype KPD if given the chance. Around 49 is very probable. Also happy that you didn't drop Thurlow down the order too far, or leave him out. I notice a few phantom drafters dropping him down significantly, but you seem to be sticking with your guns. Good stuff.

I think 3 of those will develop into inside mids. Ideally Pongracic would last to 43 which is entirely possible, but in this scenario Essendon grabs him. I think Vlastuin at 9 is looking pretty good for us in the real thing and would allow us to take a few flashier players like Atkins and Sumner plus maybe a Warrell as a rookie or PSD pick.

This is the first time I've had Siggins in my draft, hence the lack of a write up, which I'll get around too. Still a fair way off being ready IMO but has a lot of tools to develop in the right environment and tbh I think I have him on the low end of his range. Thurlow tbh haven't seen a lot of and nothing since Champs. A lot of the time I ask a friend for a package of everything they've done in a game for some of these guys. I'll have to get a couple done on Thurlow. But what I saw at Champs was very good and deserves to go mid National Draft (40+)

Your other boy Lonergan was quite difficult to place. I'd have Vlastuin ahead of him in the inside mid stakes but if Richmond take Vlastuin at 9 which is what we are rumoured to be doingm then I'd have Lonergan at 13 going to GC.

All good comments. The thing that I like about all three of those Tassie kids is their size. Thurlow is deceptively muscular. He looks pretty skinny running around out there, but he's actually got a fair bit of lean muscle mass when you see him up close.

Lonergan is obviously an athletic weapon, in that he is very strong, quick and agile. Siggins as mentioned is an impressive size and has the endurance to put that size to use. Nankervis is another one that is a massive unit.

When you compare these guys to some of the other draft prospects in terms of size, they are already fairly advanced in that area. Guys like Jackson Macrea and Lachie Whitfield are obviously brilliant prospects, but will need more time to develop a bit of muscle on their frames. Obviously not trying to say that any of those tassie kids are better prospects than those kids who are both top 10 material, and it would be unfair to compared KPDs with outside mids, but just saying that their size might be looked upon favourably in the draft. They all look pretty close to being ready to go as of round 1 if needed. More like the Mav Weller and the Mitch Robinson sizes of a few years ago, rather than the Websters and Schades of last year.
