We all knew he was good didn't we? playing well in the WAFL week in and week out but he didn't get picked until Round 17 and guess what? he was our best player.

Worsfold's love for also-ran's like Fletcher, Nicoski, Butler and others just annoys me when it's clear they have no future while we have some talent just itching to make the grade at WAFL level.

Has the penny finally dropped now?

Glad you found something you like about the eagles sdb, but Houli wasn't the best out there. Embley and Glass were, but i did like his taking on of the game. He at least attacked. He's still young and developing, that's why they haven't rushed him. Remember his last game, was like a deer in the spotlights. At least they gave him a follow up game.

He looks like he could develop into a good attacking wingman.

Now, on the subject of skills, this is one guy who has actually bettered his skills, because his kicking was average when he arrived, now he's very careful with his kicks. Good game though. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

If Embley and Glass were our best players that explains why we were so sh*t cause I thought that they were only average.

Without Glass we would have been slaughtered - once again, he put in some amazing spoils/contests that turned the ball in our direction.
Embley was good, ran hard and created a lot of forward movement.

But back to the OP, I thought Houlihan was quite good, certainly room for improvement but definitely a step up from what he's shown previously. Like Embley, he ran very hard and provided a few good contests.

Very happy to see him have a great game. He has really earnt his chance in the side.

Did he have a haircut this week? Thought Beau was back out there!

Awesome game, very good. Would a nomination be too much to expect? Or unlikely, given we lost the game?

Any other contenders this week from the other games?

Might have been a good point, except for the fact he was picked in Round 16 and had a shocker (apart from a few glimpses in the 4th which thankfully he carried through to this week).

In his post-match conference Woosha said that a player that may have looked to have a good game, wasn't sticking to team structures and will get left out this week. In the last quarter, Freo were able to get numbers by themselves on the wing. I wonder if Houlihan was supposed to be covering these guys and if he is going to miss this week.

Good to hear Woosha is trying to get more discipline in the team structure. It certainly has done wonders for St Kilda.

We have a team structure?

We have a great one sometimes (against the Dogs and Port it worked brilliantly), it just falls down all too often. But the same happened to the Saints a lot last year and look at them now. So, it seems worth it to be persisting with this rolling zone.

Had a reasonable game but unlike a couple of the kids playing for the Dockers didn't make the most of his goal scoring oppurtunities. Can't remember the last time we had someone have an impact on the scoreboard in one of their first games. Mckinley maybe?

Pretty good article off the Eagles website:
http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7155/newsid/81498/default.aspx

Essentially says that after Round 6 Houlihan approached Worsfold and said "what do I have to do to get a game?" Out of character for him he says and it's only the 3rd time he's spoken to Worsfold.

Anyone guess what the answer was?

Of course, if you're a genius, like myself, you knew the answer was "get more contested football", because his tackles started going up after that.

Good read.:thumbsu:

Yeah, you'd think players and coaches would always be talking, wouldn't you?

Cheers for the link to the article too.
