Brander was pick 13 last year and is a 19 year old tall. Some people think Kelly is now worth significantly more because he had a great 2018.

That's not really how it works, though. If Brander had been around a couple of years and done nothing then his value would drop off, but we drafted him at pick 13 for a reason. He's made no request to be traded and his value certainly hasn't dropped to steak knives level.
Brander wouldn’t scrape into the top30 of this years draft.

I think both clubs are more mature than some on BF and most of the media
Well that would not be difficult.

I trust both Wells and Rawling, two good negotiators and football people, to sit down and work out an amicable trade thats fair to both Clubs.
Geelong and West Coast have a reputation as being good and fair traders. Both Clubs pay fair compensation and neither have unreasonable demands.

Fortunately neither Club acts like Essendon.

Forget the keyboard warriors when the adults from Geelong and West Coast meet the business will be done.

The mail is that the two Clubs have already been in dialogue for at least a month and both parties would be fully aware of what will be needed to get the trade done.

Same Gyrocentrism that comes around every draft year. Heard it all before with Paton, McCartin, Boyd ect... Brander is a player with a unique skill set for a tall and one this club shouldn't part ways with.

No because Tim Kelly is worth a lot more than pick 21 in this draft.
In your opinion. Tim Kelly (and associated baggage) wouldn't picked up in the draft until pick 21 if for someone reason he was in it. If this draft was held last year (i.e. he entered on 2017 WAFL form only) he would probably be picked up later than he was last year.

So it would need to be at a minimum
P21 and Brander
It wouldn't, and it won't be. IMO.

You can ask for that, but West Coast would say no. Brander was pick 13 last year - when we could've picked Kelly. We wouldn't trade him for pick 21 this year, let alone throw in pick 21 with him.

Now that WC have secured Gaff, they should play this all nonchalant. Seems to me they don't really need Kelly.

Geelong are in a bit of a tough spot unless Kelly is also willing to talk to Freo as well. Weags should play hard ball.

WCE supporters - both teams are mature, fair trade will be done, pick 22
Followed with Geelong supporters are sooks
That’s not fair - I am pretty sure 99% of wce supporters have not said that.

I kick heads of other fans as any other guy and even I didn’t suggest that.

Geelong supporters - we drafted a player who is best 22. Worth pick 1 because we can’t draft at any other position in first round. We also got ripped off before on some deals so we will not accept a deal that doesn’t rip someone off.

24 goals and 2nd in B&F....You can’t see a reason why Kelly’s value might have increased?

I don’t know anything about Brander but I know Kelly is worth much more than his draft value.

Geelong actually dont want him to leave, so happy for the eagles to play hard ball. He stays or he trains at South Fremantle.

Then we ask for a top 10 pick again next year.

GEELONG’S approach to the Tim Kelly situation will be clear cut.

Unless the Cats receive a top-10 pick as a minimum for the gun midfielder, they will attempt to keep him at the club next season.

Geelong may also inquire about 195cm key forward Jarrod Brander, the first year goalkicker who was taken with pick No.13 last year and played one AFL game.

But it will still have to be Brander and a decent draft pick as well, rather than a straight swap for Kelly.
Sounds fair to most I imagine. Top 10 pick as a starting point with something else thrown in for good measure, or Brander and a decent pick. Do the right thing West Coast, have some compassion for the poor bloke and just get him home. :thumbsu:

I’m sorry but you lost me at Kelly 2017 form.

We don’t need to live in 2017 because 2018 has actually happened.

Tim Kelly 2018 form = pick 10 in the 2019 draft
Jarrod Brander 2018 form = pick 30+ in the 2019 draft

You need to stop seeing Kelly as a commodity. If not for the baggage he wouldn't be asking for a trade nor would we be involved in negotiating one.

Geelong used pick 24 on him and he's been excellent - but wants out after 12 months. Why would a club outside WA use a top 10 pick on that?

If that was the price then I'd just leave it and revisit next year. I rate Brander highly from the very little I've seen of him

If this gets anywhere near a top 10 pick, we need to walk away.

It sucks for Kelly but if he still wants to come home in 12 months, we can try again.

Alternatively Freo can come to the party but it doesn't look like he's high on the priority list at this stage.

I feel really bad for poor Tim, he loves his Eagles so much but I’ve got this bad feeling they don’t think to highly of him. Just cut the poor bloke some slack and give Geelong a decent trade to get him home.

This has got McCarthy and Gibbs written all over it. This may take 2 years to sort out. Which route will Kelly take. Safe to say it turned out better for Bryce in the long run. McCarthy on the other hand never recovered.

Correct, you don't know anything about Brander. He might be a future AA CHF, he might be de-listed in 3 years. Time will tell, but the club picked him at 13 last year for a reason. That reason hasn't changed and his value to the club hasn't changed based on 2018 form. He's a developing tall. Unlikely he'll show anything noteworthy at AFL level for 2-3 years.

Kelly's value has increased as a player, but it's also taken a big hit by virtue of the fact he wants out after 12 months. He's not worth a top 5 pick as evidenced by the fact that one of the two clubs in WA actually has one and aren't interested.

Rarely happens like though, unfortunately. The players have all the power.

If Kelly really does want to leave for family reason, then he will. And Geelong will have to accept what is offered.

Talk of a top 10 pick is crazy IMO.
