If this gets anywhere near a top 10 pick, we need to walk away.

It sucks for Kelly but if he still wants to come home in 12 months, we can try again.

Alternatively Freo can come to the party but it doesn't look like he's high on the priority list at this stage.
It's an opening gambit.

Ignoring the fact that it's just recycled BigFooty/trade radio discussion, but if you read the words it's not actually that hard hitting.

'Unless the Cats receive a top-10 pick as a minimum for the gun midfielder, they will attempt to keep him at the club next season.'
- So they'll ask for one. As they should. But we don't have one...

'Geelong may also inquire about 195cm key forward Jarrod Brander, the first year goalkicker who was taken with pick No.13 last year and played one AFL game.

But it will still have to be Brander and a decent draft pick as well, rather than a straight swap for Kelly.'
- They'll ask, and we'll say no.

Which just goes back to the start of whether they think they can convince him to stay or will accept something else....

Rarely happens like though, unfortunately. The players have all the power.

If Kelly really does want to leave for family reason, then he will. And Geelong will have to accept what is offered.

Talk of a top 10 pick is crazy IMO.
GWS and McCarthy is a relevant precedents. They dont have to accept anything if they are not happy.

So they're just repeating what Dal Santo said on Trade Radio.
Exactly. No one even heard of brander until dal santo mentioned him.

And he only did that by looking at who victorians are on the list.

And given brander has 3 years left on contract we can have both kelly and brander come end of 2019. I’d rather wait till then. Our club never gets rid of good young players. We are on conservative side and no way we would do it.

Let’s just wait for Kelly’s life to fall over in 2019. His wife is clearly being held back and if rumours of Geelong fans sending nasty Facebook messages to Kelly’s wife are true - she basically can’t even walk in Geelong next year if kelly is forced to stay.

Bryce Gibbs at the end of 2016.
Gibss wass different. He was basically a longterm Carlton man, who would've liked to go home if his club couyld fascilitate it.

Kelly is a guy with 3 young screeming kids, one of them disabled, and a wife who needs support.

Good luck if you can talk him into staying, but Geelong don't hold a very strong hand IMO.

Poor old Scotland is going to have a meltdown soon. Looks like pick 22 odd isn’t going to get it done. No matter how many times he tells us all it will. Time to turn on more Cats supporters hey as you gradually shift your narrative.

Herald Sun saying Geelong likely to demand top 10 pick or a first rounder & player like Brander
Doubt we'd consider a straight player swap Brander for Kelly, let alone adding a pick to that.
Brander is an integral part of our future structure as Kennedy's last year may indeed be 2019.
In reality Lobb should be our chief target and then we'll see what's available to trade Geelong after that.

I understand Geelong demanding a top 10 pick for Kelly, he is definitely worth it. We are just not going to be in a position to provide that following a trade for Lobb (if that occurs).

Maybe he should start abusing Kelly's wife instead?

What a trash thread this is. People hurling shit like monkeys.

For what it's worth, I reckon it gets done for Lycett Compo (20) and 37 which equates to just above pick 10 in points. Neutrals and the media seem to be reporting Kelly's worth as in the 10-15 range, which I for one agree with. WCE has a pretty long tradition of paying rather than playing hardball.
Points mean nothing unless a team needs that pick to match a bid for a player. Geelong has a Scott and a Brownless to bid for but neither of them have been in any draft previews top 30. Scott looks likely to be the first at 30+. With that in mind pick 20 and 37 dont have anywhere near the value of pick 10 as Geelong would already have the pick to match a likely Scott bid. A 24 year old who finished 2nd in the best and fairest has way more value than 19,20. Let alone 20 and 37. Personally, I think West Coast supporters are only here to rile up Geelong supporters as they must know their suggestions are absurd. Geelong's coaching staff clearly rate how Kelly performed last year. They wouldnt trade Mitch Duncan for 19 and 20. Why the hell would they trade a younger player who by their assessment had a better year than Mitch?

While I love Kelly a replacement ruck is the priority.

Get Kelly next year to replace Lecras.

Please quote me saying pick 22 alone will get it done. Thankyou.

I'm comfortable with the whole thing. I feel for Kelly (and Geelong, not so much their fans) but our club is run by professionals. We're not going to sell the farm or destabilise our list just to get Kelly. We'll offer whatever our best pick is, and perhaps two. If that's not enough then so be it. Kelly is a nice to have, but unfortunately for him we're not as desperate as Cats fans want us to be.

West Coast don't rate Kelly higher than Brander.

Let thank sink in!
You are not WC. Let that sink in. 99% of the football world would disagree. That certainly doesn’t denigrate Brander and it’s by no means saying that this would or could happen but it’s an absurd claim.

Again thanks again for speaking of behalf of WC and being so steadfast. Let’s close the thread. This is a bloke you don’t personally don’t really rate. A 5th or 6th wheel but a bloke your professionals have chased so hard for most of the season.

Started at 20 odd moved to 20 and change end up at............

Correct I am not, but 99% of the football world are irrelevant, including you and I.

You could start a Kelly vs Brander poll and 99% of people would probably say Kelly which is fair enough. Most people who don't support WC have probably never heard of Brander.

But the people responsible for WC list management picked Brander and Allen last year as part of a strategy knowing that Kennedy is 31 and Darling 26. That counts for a fair bit and they are the ones looking at trade options for Kelly.
