Don't like players nominating a club, i think nominating a state and then making a deal that suits all parties.

While a player wanting to go to Vic needs to nominate 2 clubs so it's still fair.

All fine to have a preference, but need to be open minded to going to either club.

Wouldn’t nominating all ten clubs make it fair?

+Brander.... Oh, and chuck Gaff and darling in there as steak knives.

Adding Brander is basically 3 first-round picks.

That's well above the going rate for guns in their mid-20's.

As a matter of fact, if you have a look at the trade price for Wingard, Neale, Sheil, O'Meara and Treloar, and add up the value of all the picks involved*, these guys go for the equivalent of 1 top 5 pick.

The best way for West Coast to come up with that value to is trade our first this year and next year.

*Assuming that Burton had held his value as the 19th pick in his draft.

What do Geelong fans think of our 1st this year and our 1st in 2020? Does that work?

So basically 2 x pick 15. Honestly, not going to cut it nor should it.

The Dangerfield (pick 9 and 28), Hogan (6 and 23) Neale (6 and 19) Beams (pick 5 and 25) trades set the bar here. We need something in the top 10 at least one of those years. (Yes there were players and picks in the 50s floating around as steak knives but integral to each of these deals was a top 10 pick and a second rounder). Heck even O'Meara followed the same rubric: top 10 and second rounder.

(The only way it works is we can turn our first round and your first round into something tastier. e.g. swapping with Swans so we get their pick 4 and they get points they can use for academy picks. But again why would we do that lose our pick 16 and do all the work doing so).

Other thing working in your favour is you’re about to get Jack Steven for a 3rd rounder. Think that more than makes up for the compensation of losing Kelly for a couple of firsts. The double standards are amazing.

What has that deal got to do with this one. Nothing. There's no double standards here your recruiting team ****ed up by not picking in one of the pervious 5 drafts he was eligible for. Now you have to pay the price he's worth.

Geelong should really trade him to Freo for pick 6 and a future first. Probably throw in Darcy also.
Nah that's overs we'd be happy with 1 in the first round and 1 in the second.

Geelong's best choice will be Eagles and will be Kelly's best choice too. Freo want to string 6 with 5 from saints and won't trade either. Will most likely offer pick 24 and future first which will probably be between 3-8 on expected performance because Freo are expected to want to rebuild this year.

No, because when a player nominates any other football state they only have two teams.

But that means that in non-vic states players even couldn’t rule out a single club. Those going to vic would get to rule out 8 teams. Hardly seems fair.

Players should be able to rule out a single club in their home state if they have a good reason.

13, 22 and a handy, but not too handy youngster. I reckon that's what he'll go fir. It'll be a good deal for wce.

Cats need to cross their fingers and hopeg picks and players work out for them.

Pies git lucky with Beams. Turned him into Degoey, Crisp and Greenwood. Not so lucky on the return deal thiugh.

It sounds like TK is locking onto WC and the problem will be getting a deal done. I don't know how good/bad the WC/FREO trading relationship exists but could some sort of mutually beneficial arrangement be reached where:

Geel loses Tim Kelly but gets #13 from WC and someone like Darcy (filling their ruck need) from FREO
WC gets Kelly and loses #13 to Geelong and something to Freo
FREO gets something from WC in compensation for Darcy

Better chance of hell freezing over than 2 rival clubs at the trade table.

Freo/eagles have an unspoken agreement to stay out of trades and never enter into a bidding contest after a player has nominated.

Eg we stayed out of hogan. Nows their time to stay out of kelly (if he does in fact nominate us).

They can ask for a preference, but i think all 3 parties need to be satisfied.

Hopefully WC and Geelong can sort a fair trade and WC offer Kelly a decent contract.

However it feels like Freo can offer better in both categories. It doesn't feel right that he can just pick WC because he wants to.

It’s definitely not right but that’s how it is and I’m pretty pissed that it’s taken till now, when we’ve had the luxury of bringing back an elite player for relative unders, for anyone to care. Didn’t seem to matter when Shiel or Treloar were picking sides (I’m sure Carlton would have had better offers for both), or now, when Steven wants to request a trade to a club in the same state..

Rubbish.

As much as I'd love more, but I think that's going to be around the mark.
Maybe throw in next year's 2nd round pick and we will throw back our 3rd round?
Who knows.. we are all bunch of Keyboard Warriors here wanting the best for our club.

Freo has every right to pursue TK and put their case forward as to why they are a good destination club for him to consider. But they want to be very careful, if it is clear that TK wants WC and Freo act like a stalking horse inflating what WC end up paying it might come back and bite them later on.

Some/most times a player gets traded to Victoria another club would have been willing to pay them more and/or pay more via trade. And yet this is never brought up. I’m just pointing out the hypocracy of it all.

So when are we expecting an official announcement from Kelly. Surely will get asked by reporters at the Brownlow tonight.

I would like to think we could be grown up enough to accept it and give him the recognition he deserves at the best and fairest night. Don't want him to lie any longer.

The B&F is on Thursday the 3rd of October. It would be cleanest to not discuss it before then.
