Steve Stumper Rixon is the man to replace Tim Nielsen. However, CA should create a Coaching Director position and Stumper would love the role.

Under the Coaching Director postion, there is a need for a Head Coach. Troy Cooley is the man. A previous blogger blamed Troy for stuffing up Johnson. He got Johnson right and Mitch bowled well against South Africa back in 2008-2009 before the England disaster.

A coach or teacher cannot do the job for the athlete. The coach or teacher is an advisor and educator whose key job is to utilise his interpesonal skills to get the athlete to maximise his or her ability.

If you look at Mitchell Johnson, he is not up to test match standard. If Troy is spending all the time with him since 2009 to correct his faults, Mitchell Johnson's mind or character is not up for the job. He does not have the mental makeup to change his bowling action.

It is up to Mitchell to clear his mind to improve his bowling. Troy COoley cannot bowl the ball for him at all.

If Stumper declines the role, I would look at Mickey Arthur as our new Coaching Director. He would work wonders for Australian cricket and he would defintely put a few noses out of joint.

And, the assistant coaches would be Barry RIchards (Batting); Allan Donald (Fast Bowling); Mike Young (Fielding) and the great SK Warne (Spin bowling).

Gov I saw your comments on the HS yesterday and Craddock seemed to think there were too many coaches in your setup and in actual fact. You don't agree?

It's alarming to think that the selection panel consists of two of the biggest slobs to play the game and someone who didn't even make the national side

Absolutely correct. It's remarkable how many people believe coaches are the cure for all cricketers' problems. They are there to assist and facilitate. Mitchell Johnson has to work out what he was doing so well in South Africa and get back to that. No coach can magically do it for him.

Mattew Hayden.

Now there is someone who should be in the current Australian scene. The guy is the most patriotic Australian I've ever seen, he bleeds for this country, and having him in the works would be a huge boost to CA. Get him involved in some capacity. I know he has other commitments, his cooking show and writing books ect, but the guy achieved it all, is clearly still passionate about Australian cricket, so please get him onboard. Listening to him at lunch on Day 3 was inspirational, even though at the time we were being absolutely slaughtered.

Deano 'I almost died in a Calcutta Cauldron and I never miss an opportunity to weave it into everything I write or say' Jones had this to say about Nielsen in this morning's Age:

"Australia coach Tim Nielsen will have to stand up because he has a massive responsibility to all and sundry and to accept the blame for how we are travelling. Maybe Cricket Australia should consider waiting until after an Ashes series before renewing the coach's contract."

Nah, we need selectors that really hate the Australian side.

Symonds, MacGill and Hodge

Coach: Hodge's Mum

Nathan Hauritz's dad might be a good fit as well. Peter Roebuck or Ian Chappell could have a shot at selecting.

Give Mitchell Johnsons' mum a catapault and she could take down the wags.

Great article by Deano. I've been in the US since November - looks like I picked the right summer to miss the cricket...what a shambles.

To Deano's point re Ponting - I wonder whether the current players admire him as much as those in Deano's era did Border? Ponting's been a great player no doubt but Border earned his stripes in the hottest cauldron of them all against the Windies (100* and 98* from memory in a test in the Caribbean) and I'm not sure Punter is at quite the same level of respect (albeit probably a better batsman).
