Tim Paine

50:50?

So he's done well to not take it but stiff to miss it?

Bloke can't take a break

He moved to the direction the ball was going off the edge, and still got it too far to the side (his left) of the centre of his gloves.

If a keeper’s job keeping up to the stumps to a spinner ISNT to take those, why bother going up to the stumps?*

*cue incessant banging on about the stumping

Having been a keeper for ny on 5 years, it is such a specialist job and even with all the training in the world you still need an ounce of luck.

Those ones either stick or they don't.

Anyways, happy that Paine is in the team. May have liked a Carey or a Whiteman in the side but neither are proven commodities (with the bat) over multiple FC seasons (yet).

aha.. the tiny Tim Paine has exceeded my expectations and become a personal favourite.
Try not to get a lid on this lad because he is going to say a lot of smart stuff on his way through this series.

It also must be hard with such luminaries like Heals and that other dude.. oh what is his name? ... some thing
like well you know he was always a bit of a toffee mouth um that subject of the Australian Royalty that name of .. it escapes me.. it really has run away and probably will come to me.

He was always a sharp shooter mouth wise behind the stumps and well he knows his own worth..

Gidday to you.. I know who you are but crap I just don't remember.. ;):D:p:thumbsu:

Funny to revisit 13 months ago. Some of us liked the selection. Some did not, but even those of us that liked it, could never imagine the turn of events he would not only finally be a Test gloveman but also the Test captain we needed so bad.

Is now.
Really happy to just hear on radio he is picked.
Good day for Aussie cricket.

Always liked Paine. Was set to be a long term keeper until 2 horrific finger injuries. Hope he can make a few runs and settle behind the stumps for a couple of years. He deserves some luck.

lol. Our coach has scored a first class century more recently than our wicketkeeper.

Can only assume Nevill, Wade and Carey got together and collectively kicked the s**t out of one of the selector's dogs.

What a shemozzle.

It is hard to argue that we are selecting a specialist wicketkeeper when the last two incumbents have been dropped for lack of runs.

Bloke can't even hold down a position with the gloves in the Shield.

The ramblings of the clueless.

Wade couldnt catch anyone's dog.

So glad with his selection over Wade and Nevill

It's good to see a quality keeper behind the stumps for a change. It's been far too long.

was a bewildering selection but has been very impressive has old Timothy, inspired selection in hindsight

Selectors are not paid to work with hindsight. Foresight is what was needed and delivered. The armchair selectors at home are the ones more often that not, pondering in hindsight.

Selectors never get credit for getting it right and they should for Paine. He might even move to 6 to allow Mitch Marsh to bat at 7 which he should be batting no higher than anyway.

The reaction to Paine is still a little over the top surely.

13, 51 and 17, and each the two failures were both when runs were needed (and no I’m not forgetting that his 51 WAS a very important knock).

He’s been capable, but words like ‘inspired’ are a little flattering.
Glove work has been superb you are forgetting.

Didnt mind Paine selection. Thought Nevill was unlucky and Wade for his "Batting" he brought would usually end up a net negative for dropped catches and poor keeping.

I for one glad the selectors went Paine. I think Carey is the future but Paine has brought stability in an absolute shitass batting line up.

Basically the selectors picked a bloke to keep who has barely been keeping.

He certainly hasn't been keeping for Tassie this year in the one-dayers or the shield.

No doubt he has been keeping in club cricket and I would assume one or two FL matches. Just great.

He's going to need a test or two to get back into the rhythm. He's clearly rusty.

It's not Paine's fault he is there, so blame/criticism/anger directed towards him is misplaced.

No, if fingers have to be pointed, direct them towards the selection panel.

It's just bizarre.
This is why the selectors do this for a job, and you post on the internet :p

Forget the 13 months, I'm impressed with Ms Saint's prediction from almost 13 years ago.

hehehe.. I don't regret what I said a year ago.. this dude is a star or at least a muted star.. he doesn't trot out the usual and if he does it is because
he lets his methods and his barbs and his catching and his sportsmanship do the talking...

very likeable and is what we need.

He has been okay but people are getting carried away with what happened in Perth. He has been solid but I don't expect him to still be in the team in 12 months time.

Carey taking over in two years time would be ideal, if Paine's fingers can hold up that long before retiring. Just got my doubts his fingers can last that long.
Who will be next captain though? I do worry, no way going back to Smith captain.

Seriously? Has been performing better than any Australian wicketkeeper has other than Gilchrist. I was a sceptic when they first brought him in but he has done an outstanding job and there is nothing keeper wise at shield level that even begins to warrant consideration.

Bears repeating - Paine is now second only to Gilly in terms of batting average for Australian keepers with 36.91. Probably needs a ton or two to cement his reputation, but I'm really liking the fighting 40 odds that he seems to produce a lot of. Bloody good keeper, too.

Rather the 30s and 40s to be honest then the fluctuating scores. Means the tail is good for at least 80 runs an innings. Was the difference between winning and losing in Perth really

And it almost got us home in Adelaide.
With our top order we need lower order runs as sad as that is

Matthew Wade is three years younger, he and Paine have 100+ first class games and Wades batting average is 10 better

Wade averaging 60+ in the shield this season.

Paines captaincy and keeping has not been great.

Harris, Warner, Kawaja, Smith, Head, Burns/Finch, Wade, Cummins, Starc, Lyon, Hazlewood - for the Ashes IMO

Wade is hopeless with the gloves. You need your head read if you want Wade keeping. He wasnthat bad it wasn’t funny. Paine’s keeping has been very good
