Are you seriously saying Greenwood and Lyons have a similar outside ability as Taranto? I can't take that seriously, sorry. Lyons and Greenwood are exactly what you are trying to say Taranto is, fairly one dimensional inside stoppage players. It screams "I haven't watched much Taranto" to suggest that's all he is
Well I have, vs Taranto (https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy...2=25&type=A&pid1=3504&pid2=6333&fid1=S&fid2=S)

Lyons has:
- better disposal efficiency
- fewer clangers
- fewer turnovers
- higher metres gained
- more score involvements
- more goal assists
- more inside 50s

Lyons dominates Taranto inside and out in every category no?

The Greater Western Sydney salary cap squeeze is on again, with the club in danger of losing at least 1-2 of its best six players.

Zac Williams will leave at the end of 2020, while rival clubs believe gun midfielder Josh Kelly is once again gettable due to the Giants’ financial predicament.

With the Giants already well over the salary cap for 2021, it’s money they don’t have.

Any cashed up club in need of an extra midfielder – like Carlton – would need to at least match that contract to pry Kelly out.

Kelly is also a free agent at the end of next year, meaning GWS would have to listen to offers this year, given they would receive far more in a trade than in compensation.

While the Giants and Richmond both have had similar trajectories in terms of success in recent years, they also share very similar models in how they pay their players.

Both loosely follow an NBA model, which sees them pay big money to their very best players and spread the remaining TPP money around to the rest.

That’s a different approach in comparison to the likes of Hawthorn and Geelong, who in recent times have avoided paying more than $900,000 to one player and spread the salary cap more evenly.

The Giants, if and when Cameron re-signs, will essentially have five players earning the best part of a million dollars per season. "

So this means GWS will HAVE to lose quite a few players to be compliant with the salary cap, and not trading is NOT an option?

Five players earning over $1,000,000? Let me guess: Daniels, Cumming, de Boer, Keefe and Callum Brown?

Slightly off topic from Taranto in isolation, but every fan picks and chooses when to believe the media about salaries and such do they not? Collingwood supporters will say they have no salary issues but say GWS do due to media reports.
I think our cap issues, and every other clubs cap issues are largely overblown by the media. Would we have a tight cap? No doubt. Would we be over for 2021? Closer to no chance.
I'd be willing to bet there's about 25 other guys that are getting traded for cap relief before Taranto as well, unless we get a godfather offer for Taranto

Five players earning over $1,000,000? Would love to see where they get these figures from.
I mean wherever it was, it's sure a lot more credible than your expectations.

Although, don't think this means $1 mil a year for 5 players. Probably because GWS has frontloaded half their stars to fit the impending salary cap.

Apparently Carlton has enquired as well.

Saints are looking to be in a good spot with their list though, and will be challenging for a flag within the next couple of years and Taranto is already a rolled gold star.

Interesting to see what plays out.

Well you seem to pay a premium systematically on all your players, even including the younger draftees, so I don't find this extreme salary issue hard to believe.

On the other hand, for us we are not disputing that we had significant salary cap issue heading into the off-season, our point is that we are also expecting significant relief in the form of 6-8 senior players retiring/delisted while on decent coin.

We do pay a premium, all the Northern teams do to some degree, but our club isn't so mismanaged we'd accidentally walk ourselves into a spot where we'll be over the cap unless we trade someone of significant value, the idea that any club would do that is a little shocking imo. In terms of Taranto though, again he's a very valuable player, I don't think anyone would dispute that, I can't see us moving him on unless it's a really good offer of a good player + good pick.
Will be interesting, might be a good way to leverage an extension to his current contract on some better terms

It would be idiotic by GWS to let him go

I never like these "already contracted" trade rumour's, just get's us fans excited, then falls away into dust. And either of Taranto or Hopper would be good. Where doe's Hopper sit with his contract?

If he’s gonna leave, GWS should try to secure a top five draft pick to help them get one of those key forwards.

St Kilda has a lot of trade chips on their list. Players like webster and roberton are serviceable players but have been ditched for younger talent, so could they help get a deal done?

Also thoughts on giving the Giants Jack Billings (reportedly old mates with Kelly) + 2020 first round pick (currently 14th) for Taranto and pick 39? It would be rough seeing Billings leave but you've gotta give something to get something plus I think Billings would suit the Giants system nicely.

GWS should absolutely trade him if they can get 2x top 10 picks.

Look Taranto is quite decent on the insight, but he really does lack offensive tools, especially as one of the worst kicks in the AFL.

If Taranto is gone, the likes of Caldwell/Hopper/Hately get more midfield time, better developed and might not even leave. They also restock on KPFs in a strong draft especially since their KPF stock is looking a little shaky rn

Sorry mate but Webster and Roberton have 0 value, they are not even steak knives since they would take up a list spot, which is going to be valuable.

I rate Billings, are you actually better off with that trade?

Ah ok, so it would appear that this year GWS will be targeted by the combined Vic media. It will be good to have the year off after the Papley/Daniher fiasco last year. Once again they seem to think that any player north of the border is fair game regardless of contract status and/or the complete lack of assets that St Kilda would be willing to trade. Unless they were willing to offer up Rowan Marshall perhaps.

I hope GWS tell the Saints where to shove it.

This year?? Every year we have articles that all our players want out. Wether contracted or not.

Most of the ones we want to keep we do.

Goes at 49% by foot, going to be a big price to pay for a turnover merchant

All are career averages Oliver 58%, Dangerfield 57%, Cripps 56%, Crouch 53%
Imagine having worse foot skills than Crouch...

St Kilda are the new Collingwood when it comes to trade season.

After everyone and anyone. Apparently.
