Are you seriously saying Greenwood and Lyons have a similar outside ability as Taranto? I can't take that seriously, sorry. Lyons and Greenwood are exactly what you are trying to say Taranto is, fairly one dimensional inside stoppage players. It screams "I haven't watched much Taranto" to suggest that's all he is
Well I have, vs Taranto (https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy...2=25&type=A&pid1=3504&pid2=6333&fid1=S&fid2=S)

Lyons has:
- better disposal efficiency
- fewer clangers
- fewer turnovers
- higher metres gained
- more score involvements
- more goal assists
- more inside 50s

Lyons dominates Taranto inside and out in every category no?

Going to be a busy offseason landing Ben Brown, Taranto and Caldwell !!.

Don’t think we can trade a first rounder for this year or the next either can we ?.

We can trade this years. Next years we aren’t supposed to be able to trade unless we find a way later to trade back into it. I thought Hawthorn and Geelong both “broke the rules” (I might be wrong) and nothing happened though so I don’t know how strictly enforced it is...

So we have roughly pick 15 to play with.

Can’t see how that is enough currency for Taranto unless it is all a smokescreen to prise Caldwell out. Which looks unlikely anyway according to a few punters.

That's a crazy over simplification. Taranto is different from our other mids because he can play essentially every role well. Need an outside mid to get the handball from a stoppage winner? TT is there. Need a stoppage winner? TT is there. Need a winger? TT is there. Need some one to fill one of those inbetween roles? TT is there
No one else in our midfield offers the versatility to the quality TT does, biggest issue rn is how he's being utilised and how weak the surrounding midfielders were. Kelly and Hopper being out of form at various points hit Tim's game the most because he was forced to try and pick up their slack which detracts from his own game. Not even 12 months ago he was unanonimously our best player, not so much has changed
I’m sold.

How much?

" Recent article from The Age

The Greater Western Sydney salary cap squeeze is on again, with the club in danger of losing at least 1-2 of its best six players.

Zac Williams will leave at the end of 2020, while rival clubs believe gun midfielder Josh Kelly is once again gettable due to the Giants’ financial predicament.

With the Giants already well over the salary cap for 2021, it’s money they don’t have.

Any cashed up club in need of an extra midfielder – like Carlton – would need to at least match that contract to pry Kelly out.

Kelly is also a free agent at the end of next year, meaning GWS would have to listen to offers this year, given they would receive far more in a trade than in compensation.

While the Giants and Richmond both have had similar trajectories in terms of success in recent years, they also share very similar models in how they pay their players.

Both loosely follow an NBA model, which sees them pay big money to their very best players and spread the remaining TPP money around to the rest.

That’s a different approach in comparison to the likes of Hawthorn and Geelong, who in recent times have avoided paying more than $900,000 to one player and spread the salary cap more evenly.

The Giants, if and when Cameron re-signs, will essentially have five players earning the best part of a million dollars per season. "

So this means GWS will HAVE to lose quite a few players to be compliant with the salary cap, and not trading is NOT an option?
Williams, Corr, Shaw, Jacobs and the Sheridan (big money) would free up enough coin for us to retain who we need.

Ah ok, so it would appear that this year GWS will be targeted by the combined Vic media. It will be good to have the year off after the Papley/Daniher fiasco last year. Once again they seem to think that any player north of the border is fair game regardless of contract status and/or the complete lack of assets that St Kilda would be willing to trade. Unless they were willing to offer up Rowan Marshall perhaps.

I hope GWS tell the Saints where to shove it.

Marshall is a no go. We are not trading him under any circumstances. I would trade anyone else except King, Butler, Clark, Coffield, Howard, Paton, Bytel, Byrnes, Jones, Steele, Marshall, (as mentioned) or Wilkie.

Matthew Lloyd and Caroline Wilson reporting on Footy Classified that the Saints are chasing Taranto.

Contracted till 2022. How on earth do the Saints get this done?
Lloyd ?
lol
Dont waste your time on it. It'll be just more invented rubbish hoping to build a media profile.

The Giants need to stop taking draft picks as compensation for losing stars, they need to look at needs and fill them.. If I am head of list management at GWS the only way Stkilda get Taranto is if they hand over Rowan Marshall and would still need some gravy on top.

Umm, no.

Yeah if there was one midfielder I wouldn't be trading if I were the Giants it's Taranto

Apparently Carlton has enquired as well.

Saints are looking to be in a good spot with their list though, and will be challenging for a flag within the next couple of years and Taranto is already a rolled gold star.

Interesting to see what plays out.

If the Saints get Taranto they will finish top 4.

Giants will finesse a club out of 2x first rounders for Taranto and simply throw Tom Green in as their replacement, will be an astute move

That's interesting, because if I were the Giants the 1st player I'd be trading is Taranto
Your theory is that he's below par because of his kicking, of our fulltime midfielders he'd only be behind Kelly

Taranto isn't going anywhere. No idea where this is coming from, but when he signed his contract, he stated he loved living in Sydney and playing for the Giants and didn't want to go anywhere. Same with Hopper. Ridiculous for anyone to think otherwise

Well okkk let's not twist my words shall we lol...

Overall package - he is fine. If I had 2x 1st round picks and needed to target a good young mid to be the pillar of my midfield? - he is the last person I'd choose - literally Adam Treloar but twice as bad of a kick and doesn't even have the pace to make long bombs worth it.

It's not even hard to get strong contested inside mids with !@#$ kicking skills and !@#$ pace. Think Jarryd Lyons & Hugh Greenwood, both better than Taranto on the inside and has a similar profile on the outside. What did they cost?
