I imagine it would sound something like this...
Tim: “Hello, I’m Tim Webster. Welcome to Channel 10’s coverage of the 2002 AFL Grand Final.
“It’s a fine, sunny day in Melbourne and the SCG is packed to capacity for this clash between the Sydney Swans and the Brisbane Bears. Can the Swans win their first Premiership since 1996 when Plucka Lockett kicked that famous conversion after the hooter, or can Brisbane finally win the shield, 6 years after their controversial merger with Footscray? We will know the answer in about 4 hours time.
“The mighty Swannies flew into the semis on the back of 10 straight victories and last week defeated the Fremantle Doctors by 47 in the Major Preliminary Final. The Bears have had a much tougher road to the Grand Final; just scraping past Mark Malthouse’s Collingwood in the last round to make the semis, and then with narrow victories over Norths, Wests and Ports to make it through to The Big One today.
“We can now cross to the Sydney dressing sheds where Sandra Sully has Swans coach, Robbie Eades…”
Sandra: “Thanks, Tim. Robbie, a big day for you and the boys?”
Eade: “Yes, Sandra, it’s a very important day for the club and hopefully all our plans will come to fruition…Oh, and it’s Rodney, by the way.”
Sandra: “My apologies, Ronnie...So, can you actually divulge any of these plans to our channel 10 viewers? For instance, will you be staying in Melbourne tonight, or heading back to Sydney for the after-match party?”
Eade: “Sorry Sandra, that’s not really at the forefront of my mind right now…”
Sandra: “Will you at least be getting into the spirit of the occasion by cracking open the bubbly in the coaches’ box?”
Eade: “Look, I’m sorry, Sandra. Can we stop this interview here?”
Sandra: “Back to you, Tim…”
Tim: “Thanks, Sandra, for that in-depth interview. We can now cross to Timmy Bailey, who has managed to get hold of Brisbane coach Len Matthews in front of the Bears coaches box - Timmy…”
Bailey: “Thanks, Tim. Well here I am in the hi-falutin MCC Members stand with Brisb…hey…what’s going on…let go…mmmffffghhhh”
MCC Redcoat: “ Sorry Sir, you can’t come in here wearing those psychedelically coloured board shorts and that Mambo t-shirt with the farting dog. I’m afraid you’ll have to leave.”
Tim: “Looks like some technical difficulties down there…I’ll take this opportunity to remind you that today’s Noel Smith Medal will be presented by former Souths legend, Bobby Skelton.
“OK, my director is telling me it’s time for the kickoff, so we can cross to our match commentators, Danny Mielicki and Barry Sheene. Take it away, guys…”
Danny: “Light’s on…Siren…RACING!”
