Am aware that wouldn't work against Sydney etc but realistically there is no way to set up our defence that wouldn't get obliterated by that sort of forward line - it's not like we ever win against them anyway

It's going to have to be a developmental year, with the defense anyway, so play the guy who would be considered next in line. You'll lose games from it but it fast track's the experience.
FWIW I think we should pick the natural defender, Barrass, over someone we're trying to make into a defender.

This year just blood youngsters from now on and hope for the best. Teach them e structures and hopefully unearth a star.

But what we need to do is go hard for Rance!! Can't trust Brown to last a season and with 2 kpd's coming back from knees next year will be tough too.

Schofield is massive but he's not a key defender. He's not a body player, he's good as third man up, playing on smaller opponents and running off half back.

Have you seen the change to his body shape over the off season?

Yes previously he is how you described him. When I was at a training session in early Jan 2013 MacKenzie standing next to Schofield there was a big difference. EMac looked like a tank with solid hips and legs, Schofield was tall but lean.

Now look at Schofield. He was told to bulk up and he is much heavier in the hips, bigger in the legs and also arms. He's also 196cm.

So in the past yes he's been a lighter running third tall but today he is much bigger and better equipped to play on the bigger forwards.

McInnes will have rings run around him. He's not agile or balanced enough. I'd happily have Schofield play as 2nd tall and push Barass to EP seniors in an effort to fast track him.

McInnes doesn't look that mobile I would agree but he would be a better option than throwing Barass into the deep end. McInnes at least has had 5 years in the system.

We also struggled across half forward last nigh which is where McInnes is better suited.

McInnes would be effective minding the opposition resting rucks down back, they aren't as quick or agile and no doubt opposition teams will try and stretch us down back now with two of our best KP backs out. No way will he keep up with a Franklin or a Roughead.

So McInnes and Schofield in, McInnes named at CHF but can be moved to cover oppositions big 200cm forwards / rucks.

this. ACLs are 2-year injuries. 1 to get back on the park and another to get up to speed.

And this is why we need to throw the kitchen sink at Rance.

We should also do the same for Yarran with a trade.

If we can trade in Yarran and pick up Rance as a free agent that's two elite players covering areas we desperately need improvement in.

We'll be fine... Gov, Schoey to come back in next week, McInnes and Barrass in reserve, Powell when he comes back from injury. We could even try Tunbridge, Colledge, Main and Sinclair over the course of the season. Plenty of options...
I went to the east perth subi game schofield isnt fit .. the rot set in when barrass and powell went down for the season last year . Their development has suffered . Their bodies are not right at the moment. Our dwarf mids cant cover down back , wish we could recruit some mature age players with height like freo did with barlow and mazungu . Recruit a couple of mature players that can play , not project players that might be ok . We recruit little hutchings . we recruit too many project players main powell barrass tunbridge .. karpany is crap, maginnes a project . .. we keep recruiting dwarfs as midfielders . Can sinclair be a defender are he and mcinnes too slow ? , freos defenders can play fwd their forwards can play back this is gonna be a year our selectors are exposed for the lack of versatility they have created

Our small players are not dynamic . Newman .. maybe he is but he hasnt shown yet .. Yeo is the only decent versatile recruit we have got in in years ... mcgovern i said years ago should have been elevated when lynch was in his last year .. our list is actually shallow as all crap .. and we should be angry , not at the players who can only do what they can . But we should be peeved at the recruitment ..

What about colledge this week while schoey is still out, he's 192 and 90 kgs now whilst it's not ideal considering he probably hasn't played there often but I don't think Mcinnes has the agility to hold up and colledge would.

IMO, playing a guy like Colledge as a KPD will just mess with his development as a mid, same as for Yeo. Better off playing a legitimate tall KPP.

I reckon you might have to train Macallum for the backline. Check the list and there is no tall timber except for Macallum who is 200cm tall.

Another Facebook special. :$

Just a thought...

Anyone else think WCE are regretting the delisting of Blayne Wilson now?

In the games I saw last year he played okay, without being great. At least he had plenty of practice as a key back..

nah, was never going to make it or improve much and i don't think we're going to be much worse off with mcinnes/barrass pinch-hitting.

I agree Wilson didn't show enough to stay on the list. Wouldn't be a replacement for Brown anyway. I doubt McInnes will be playing at half back will confuse him further. Barrass has the job if he's good enough.

In 2013, not sure what we were thinking only drafting Sheed as the only player that could realistically play in 2014. Good thing that all 6 of the players we drafted last year can potentially play this year.

As the thread title says - Get Rance before the dorkers do
I wouldn't have even contemplated this 3 weeks ago but Mackenzie and now Mitch Brown going down I think it's worth discussing.
That would also free up McGovern to go forward.
Surely we can fit him in our salary cap because there ain't to many A graders of his calibre in our side.
