B]sorry to pull you up, but we've never lost a high draft pick going home for nothing.[/B] we've had one or two, who faced delisting because of not being good enough, but none who we wanted and left for nothing or near to it.[/QUOTE]

You are factually wrong Crow Mos. Angwin was our highest ever draft pick at 7. He walked out on the club. The club tried desperately to trade him but no Vic clubs were silly enough to trade and use a decent draft pick when they could pick him up for a low draft pick or PSD pick

Therefore the Crows have lost a high draft pick going home for nothing. In fact, their highest ever draft pick :thumbsd:

Pick 2 in 2002 ( K Johnson ) is our highest draft pick. Unfortunately we blew that one too.

Not that we actually used that pick, isn't that the one we traded for Carey?

Yes, it was actually pick 4 at the time, which turned in to pick 2.

Theres was a small article in the sunday mail today about an Adelaide based AFL player wanting to go home :o

It read:
Who could it be?
Which SA-based AFL footballer is rumoured to be heading home for Victoria at the end of this season?
Seemingly not in his club's short-term plans, the player is out of contract at the end of the season. Our mail is that talks with his management and his club are at an impasse.
Expect this story to play itself out in the next few weeks.
________
Meesen?

Let's think about this .....Essendon would be the absolute worse case scenario, Carlton the second worse because we would get very liitle if he's out of contract and into the PS draft.

Now with the almost given that Michael Gardiner will be available IF Essendon "were" looking for a ruckman you could almost guarantee they would go for Gardiner. That would leave us exposed IF both Essendon AND Carlton are looking for a ruckman

Frankly this does at least give us some bargaining power now "although" I still have faith the AFC will re-sign Meesen....hopefully it is just the financial terms they're haggling over or they have agreed to let a few more games go by.

To lose two players in two years would make the AFC the unluckiest club in the AFL and I don't subscribe that our club, management and footy programs are what young players want to walk away from.

Oh and I forgot Nick Davis will help us out as well ....

I saw Clarke play on Sunday for Glenelg...if he misses out and Meeson gets a game he can count himself damn unlucky.

We heard lasy week that Meesen was being re-signed.The AFL players agreements have been sealed. What's the hold-up?
Probably waiting on the EBA to be finalised, then Macca's contract, then Meesen's. Patience. ;)

Biglands - hamstring strain this week, Meesen on standby

Clarke - "mind not in tune with body", Hudson in the wings.

Could we have a complete new ruck division by the finals?

My senses tell me that there could be an issue with re-signing big Liam.

Apparently management have had the feelers out amoungst Melbourne clubs.

Apparently reluctant to commit - could even do a PS draft runner

Hopefully I'm wrong and the contract will be signed soon.

:(

My gut is telling the same, he may be gone.

Hopefully I am incorrect but the longer he doesn’t sign; the greater the risk is that he could be gone.:D

I wonder what the clubs reaction will be if he kicked 10 for Norwood in a final  , especially if he says that he cannot see an immediate future with the club.

First Laurence Angwin, then Fergus Watts now John Meesen, we are not having much luck with Victorian big men who have been a first round draft pick. We have had no trouble keeping 2nd or 3rd or 4th round picks from Victoria but first round pick walk away at first opportunity.

Only first rounder to stay has been Brent Reilly and he could be a trade option.

What can we do? play them or pay them a bit more to stay

The Meese deserves a crack, with the great performance on the weekend he should play in the Showdown, if he performs retain him in the side, if he doesn't, he would have at least had a crack.

how is that going to stop him taking the easy option ?

if he leaves lets just hope he gets a bit of fergus watts justice

And what does NC tell one of Clarke and Biglands for there expulsion? Sorry Mathew or Rhett but we want to give John a game so he get a crack at the big time before he ****es off home to Victoria?

In life you get what you earn and then you have to be lucky enough to have opportunity full in your lap at the same time. Meesen form has been good but it’s hasn’t been great and certainly not to the point of sending a regular AFL ruckman down a grade.

Playing them has nothing to do with it IMHO. Its just their prima dona attitude. Hey look we were first round draft pick so we much be good. That means I must be good enough to play AFL footy in my first couple of years. If I don't I will spit the dummy and go back home to mummy.

With the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and later rounders, you get players who are humble and greatful for the opportunity. They are just greatful to the club for giving them a chance and they will endeavour to repay the faith by sticking around for a while and giving something back to the club (See Kane Johnson and Tyson Stenglein). Those are the sort of players I like and respect. They give it their all, repay the club and when its time to go back home, both parties leave on good terms and mutual respect.

These 1st rounders think that their **** doesn't stink and that ****es me off!!!!!!
