The more players we remove that have played a bigger part in the last 8 years the closer we are to being a genuine top 4 side and not a mid pack team.

10. Our own reserves side should ensure that from 2013 onwards our whole list is playing the way Hird and Co want rather than having a large influence from a 3rd party.

Im wondering if that is a major reason why Collingwood's new players seem to be able to get a call up and slot in perfectly to perform a role in the senior side?

Positives:

1. First and foremost, we now have a gamplan which we had not seen in 10 years. This is a gameplan that CAN, given time win a premiership.

2. Key posts are slowly being filled- Gumbleton, Hurley, Hooker and Carlile.

3. Watson has become an absolute elite player of the competition (I sincerly hope that the teams' uselessness hasn't cost him a Brownlow, Swan being out for a while would have helped)

Negatives

1. Inconsistency, but this in my view was to be expected, we are still a relatively young team especially in key positions.

2. Injuries, we need to have a better management plan especially over the pre season with tissue injuries.

3. Midfield, I am sorry but take Watson out and it is D grade. We need quality and quickly

You don't rate Zaharakis ?

Does anyone have footage of Fletcher's spoil on Betts? Happened in front of me and I still don't know how he did it. I'd love to see it again!

Was right in front of us too, the guys we with all said Betts all alone, then a fist from nowhere! The standing ovation Fletch got was great, then we realised he had done his groin!

Yes, to a point. That said regardless he won't be a Pendelbury class and we need that sort of class to jump from being a fringe top 8 to a top 4.
How can you be so certain he won't be in that class?

He won a B&F in his 3rd year.

This year he has been injured but was just starting to hit top gear. Make no mistake he will be a 28+ possession avg and 30 goal a season player.

Maybe but even so, that is only 2 A grade midfielders. This is our biggest issue, and we are getting ANOTHER KP this year (as good as he is). Ourt list is VERY unbalanced. I'll agree to disagree on Zaka as I see him as a good role player though.

Wow

How do you rate Dane Beams ?

Have Zaka at about the same level.

In terms of Dayne Beams, he is a very good role player, possibly a bit more but Pendelbury and Swan are clearly better, so he benefits being 3rd in line for a tag.

Underselling Beams. I don't really care much for tags and this player gets one and this one doesn't. Good players rise above it. Fact is Beams is influencing games. He would have been stopped by someone by now (if he wasn't a good player).

I never said he wasn't a good player, but he is not as good as Swan or Pendelbury, that is what I said. I have said all along we need a Swan/Pendelbury type, by only getting Beams-types we won't be winning flags. Every great side has 4-5 great midfielders.

All I care about is Gumbleton.
If someone said to me that Gumby would arise from the ashes and play 4-5 games in the season, but the issue is we'd not make top 8 from a 8-1 start, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Just so happy to see this man get to where he so deserves to be after such a hugely disappointing start to his career.

Really?

I'd take continuing our dominant season.

POSITIVE!

I'm actually going to take delight in cutting our list to shreds this off season.

Considering a move to melbourne for next year, and a big factor is how excited i am to get too see bombers games.

So many things to research and organise for a big move, but the only one relevant to this thread is.......

How much for a membership and is there any advice on what to look for with it?

1, Myers, Heppell and Zaharakis are all one year closer to developing into A grade mids. With luck with injuries I expect at least one and at a stretch 2 of them to be considered A grade by the end of next year. Whilst Heppell has been wrongly maligned, he's stepped up in the second half of the year and taken on board far more respondibility than he did last year. He's a one touch player which is required around the ball. Myers looks sensational in the middle and just needs to hold himself together and Zaharakis is probably already there given half a run with injuries.
Stanton plays well when we play well and is really our Kade Simpson to Carlton. With the three previously mentioned stepping up and with Watson and Howlett already there, the midfield starts to shape up. It also enables Stanton to do what he does to better effect. The club will no doubt be chasing a quality mid at the trade table which would add to that depth.
2, Carlisle. Sensational.
3, Ryder. Continues to develop and look out for him breaking into the top bracket of players next year.
4, The first half. Even with consistent injuries over the first half of the year, we were as good as anyone. Again, it relies on luck and management but with a season of injuries like North, we'd be 15 wins right now. I've got absolutely no doubt.
5, Depth. Hillarious how people have questioned our depth of late. It's actually our strength. We bat down to about player 32 and this is the reason we were able to be as competitive as we were in the first half. The injury crisis ultimately takes its toll when we get to this part of the year.
