With Victorian cases starting to spike, the risk of more Victorian based players testing positive to Covid and more games being postponed is going to keep rising. Get footy games out of Victoria for the next month of fixtures announced and send 4 teams to a WA hub, 4 to SA and 2 + Sydney & GWS to a Gold Coast hub. Have Essendon, Melbourne and potentially Carlton in the same hub so they can catch up on their games. Get it done Gil

Gil can't do anything if McGowan tells him to gagf.

Flying non-WA based clubs into WA is currently incompatible with WA's hard border closure.

If McGowan is fair dinkum and consistent he either can't let them in or needs to rescind the current rules and open the border to all.

I know which one I'd be betting on.

In the interests of a fairer competition I hope the AFL remains stubborn and tries to make a Victorian hub work all year. No doubt more players will get infected because Victoria is a cess pit about to experience a 2nd wave, and the season will get cancelled. Resulting in massive loss of revenue, a few of their clubs will have to merge or fold, and we can start 2021 with 14-16 teams and talent not to spread out.

The figures from the last week do not look good.
20200620_205216.jpg

That's a large increase in the space of a week.
Essendon-Melbourne fixture has already been scrapped as a result.

With Victoria being the only state where coronavirus hasn't been eliminated or the curve flattened.
What does this mean for the AFL on a national scale?

NT, SA, Tasmania and ACT are all completely free of coronavirus.
Queensland and WA are on the brink of achieving elimination too.

NSW, ACT and Victoria always aimed to flatten the curve.
The other jurisdictions went for an elimination strategy.

So far it appears that the flatten the curve strategy is working for NSW and clearly worked for ACT.
Why is it failing in Victoria despite having by far the strictest lockdown measures imposed out of any jurisdiction?

What does this mean for the rest of the AFL season with 10/18 teams being Victorian based?

NSW has 3x the active cases, but nobody is talking about GWS/Sydney.

Have some respect for the state that props everyone else up.
Because it's about current community infection rates not how many people with COVID are returning from overseas (who are quarantined).

There is more community infections in Victoria than the rest of Australia combined.

Yep, our mines keep the rest of Aus above the poverty line.

As for this footy season, the VIC and new team's can play the COVID cup while the rest can play golf in paradise.

Because there’s no chance WA now allows fly in fly out for Victorian teams anytime soon so you need to have a hub there after round 5, South Australia will most likely block normal travel to Victoria too and at that point you might as well use the Gold Coast hub set up for the other two Vic teams left + Sydney and GWS. Plus, you know, not playing games where’s there’s dozens of new cases daily compared to 0 for the other cities where hubs would be.
