News Time for the Vic teams to leave Victoria - EDIT: Hawks to Hub in Barossa, 15 teams in QLD

Why? Protecting his State from the terrible decisions of the Socialist Republic of Victoria. I am for leaving politics out of this, but if any administration has failed miserably it is the Victorian Labor Government.

‘it’s not like the rest of australia, but it’s still pretty good to the world in comparative terms. This is ‘first world problems’

EU will be allowing Aussies to fly in soon. They won’t exclude viCtorians

How about direct quotes from AFL clubs and people in the footy industry, including the President of your own club:

On Melbourne’s Triple M this week, radio broadcaster Steve Price said that the “amount of money we’re ploughing into [the AFLW] is ridiculous”. Collingwood Football Club president Eddie McGuire refuted Price’s comments saying that the women’s game had “absolutely made football so much money in the last three years” and calling the women’s game a “an absolute revolution for our game – it’s the next stage”. McGuire’s comments about the AFLW were echoed by former Adelaide Crows player Mark Ricciuto who said that Adelaide’s AFLW team had been profitable since day one. “We’ve got some big sponsors on board as a result of women’s footy,” he said.

For AFL clubs with an AFLW team, the growth in memberships and sales of –admittedly often somewhat limited – merchandise, alongside new sponsors are undoubtedly making those clubs money.

Now scamper along with your tail between your legs. I don't want to have to school you again about your chauvinist attitudes.
That doesn't really confirm your statement. Revenue and sponsorship opportunities do not equate to profitability necessarily. Nor does a quote from one club president.

Id imagine if there was financial report data that would help your case. Your original statement might be correct by the way, but your post isn't proof.

You might want to actually be correct before you patronise others.

Australians aren't allowed to leave Australia.

Doesn't matter about them wanting us to come.

Why? We don't even play AO that well and haven't for years.

It was really just a joke.

Obviously SA will have a FIFO model for teams to fly in once they have done 14 days in either NSW or WA.

So I guess you're gonna have to learn how to play AO afterall.

No it isn't. Using security guards for hotel quarantine because you want to give contracts to union workers over police/ADF that other States use - that's disgraceful.

Letting people leave quarantine without testing or further longer periods in quarantine - negligent.

Andrews adopted the most draconian lock down regime in the country. Despite this, his State is in the worst position of any. If he had any character he would resign. I would be saying the same regardless of Party. Eg the NSW Minister that oversaw that boat docking and people exiting should be sacked as well.

Anyway leave the politics aside.

Just let me know where the Blues are hubbing.

So, if I'm not mistaken the current government rules are:
- No VIC teams allowed in SA
- VIC teams travelling to WA must quarantine for two weeks, but can play games during that time
- VIC teams or any team travelling from Victoria to QLD must quarantine for two weeks and are not allowed to play games during that time.
- Travel between NSW and VIC is okay unless the person lives in a hot spot (all players from hot spots have been moved out)
- Any traveler to TAS or NT needs to quarantine for 14 days - unsure if games can be played during this time.

Therefore the only options for the AFL are WA and NSW, and maybe NT and TAS if they allow the WA exemption on players

My guess would be:
WA Hub - West Coast, Fremantle, Collingwood, Geelong plus two further Vic Teams
NSW Hub - Gold Coast and all other 8 Vic Teams

Brisbane, GWS and Sydney, I believe, should be free to travel between Sydney and Brisbane to play each other. I think Port and Adelaide should be free to travel home but will only be able to play GWS or Sydney if they are to play in Adelaide. (At least until the VIC clubs have spent two weeks outside of Victoria?)

After two weeks of playing within NSW it would make sense that those 9 sides would be free to travel to SA or QLD? Good lord.

Edit: SA reopens the borders to NSW July 20 which would be after Round 7. Also no travel restrictions to the ACT so a small hub playing out of Manuka is a chance.

This would work until NSW's decisions to keep the border open to Victoria leads to it also having lots of cases and QLD gets spooked, closes it's border to NSW and doesn't allow travel between QLD and NSW for the teams without a 14 day quarantine period.

Don’t AFL players get tested two or three times a week ? Why ban Victorian teams if they don’t have the virus? Leave the politics out of it. The season is becoming even more illegitimate as we move forward.
It would be because we have seen players test negative Wednesday then positive Friday, where they could be in another state and spreading it before their Friday test comes back.

Cross that bridge if it comes. It's very likely we will have another break in the season if the outbreak in Victoria continues, even if it's just to get a 14-day quarantine done to re-set the comp.

It is time for "top end football". Relocate all teams between Brisbane/GC, WA and Darwin. Do what you need to do over the next 2 weeks so clubs can base themselves and fly between those areas without issue. If ConmanDan keeps up his incompetence and it spreads to NSW then Qld will close their borders, as will WA and NT. So these areas should be safe and there are enough grounds between them to play all games.

Run the rest of the season from there. Finals can be revisited a month out. If players don't like it don't get paid. Simple.

West Coast we’re saying they were going home no matter what after 6 weeks, no way are clubs going to agree to spend 3-4 months away from home.

They never said that.

They said that they needed clarity on the date and conditions under which they will return to Perth, otherwise they wouldn't commit to games after round 5.

When that clarity arrived, they agreed to stay for round 6.

So factually, you are wrong.

Not to mention, why have 18 teams in NT when there is an empty stadium in WA that can host 3 games per week with crowds of up to 60K?

Let's be clear, Optus will have games at the stadium from round 7 until the end of the home and away season, even if that means Vic teams "hosting" WA teams at Optus.

AFL is not going to throw away millions of dollars that could go in club coffers just for some far fetched notion of fairness.

We dont have a 2020 membership ticket. We need to buy every ticket from Ticketmaster for each game this year when the games are announced..........

Why would you expect it to work any other way
Yes we do.
There has been no announcement from the club how they will be handling ticketing for games as yet.

‘except WA seems to be excluding all other teams including SA?

Collingwood and Geelong are already coming over here, unless I missed some news overnight. Word is other clubs to join also.

They will play each other during the quarantine period and then have free movement like anyone after that.
(possiblly be enjoying being over here IF Vic gets put in full lockdown again)

I'm actually starting to get worried about the Vic teams playing at Optus stadium with crowds during quarantine.

If a Victorian player has covid, plays in a game and then the footy goes in to the crowd, there's a risk for an outbreak.

I don't think it is. There's a heap of balls in use and there might only be ten interactions with balls total per quarter per player on a great day. They say the viral load needs to be significant to catch it, it's not HIV.

But the player would also cause the lockdown of both entire teams.
