What do you guys think? The forum is becoming more popular and people are willing to sponsor players more. Do you think now is a good time to get another one of our young draftees and put them under our wing like we have travis?

Harry Taylor would be a good choice, he is a chance to play senior football and was our first round pick.

Thoughts?

This Jimmy Bartel draftee looks like he could go all right... Might never win a Brownlow, but maybe worth sponsoring.
How's that lid going going Finny? Harry Taylor could be a good choice as he is a chance to play seniors this year. Would better players still be out of our price range? What are the current costs of sponsoring players?

The cost is $1200 or $1300 per player, doesn't matter who. Unlike a number of other clubs, Geelong allows only one sponsor per player. This makes it realtively expensive in one way, ie I think sponsorship for North players is $500, but cheap in another as Notrh have four or so sposnsors per player. Each year, the players existing sponsor gets first dibs on renewing their sponsorship and its rare for this not to be renewed for regular players. In other words , our best bet would be to go for a draftee as its unlikely anyone else will be available.

Personally I think we would struggle to make the amount necessary for a second player and I can't afford to underwrite the second player, if someone else wants to, then thats fine. I'm also not aware of the next year's sponsorship programme. The club know they are cheap compared to other clubs and may be tempted to go for more money.

Arrr fair point JB. I didn't realise they had didn't types at other clubs. Maybe we could run an interest thread to see what type of $$ we could get towards it?

Wouldn't you know it, got home to find the renewal notice. Price this year is $1500 for a 'player of the future' as opposed to a 'premiership player'. Same sort of benefits plus a signed and 'boxed' 2008 jumper. Not sure when we are meant to pay up by, last year they didn't really do anything until the season almost started, bit of a shambles really.

Helen is on maternity leave and the contact is now Leanne Clutterbuck. I've pm'd her details to you rizzo if you have any questions for her.

The dinner may not be on either, instead there are 'two tickets to attend Geelong Cats' premium event, the 2008 season launch and be seated with your player', whatever that means.

I suppose we better start getting organised!

For sure, are you able to set up a payment method for people who want to join the Harry Taylor Sponsorship?

I think this year we need to make the minimum input $50 for Travis. I also kicked in for the shortfall last year as well and still didn't win anything (cry and complain) ;) We will see how things go as far as people wishing to contribute.

Speaking of which, what happened to our "Sponsor of Travis Varcoe" in the left panel under our names????

Agreed mate, the mods shouldn't have to folk out the extra money. I've fired her off an email to get this thing rolling, so if people are interested please post in the thread!

The jumper is a welcome new addition. Looks like the special tags got lost, the dudes at BF HQ will need to re-enable that thing.
