I like your thinking.

A “freeze rule” could be introduced where during a review, music is played and all players are required to remain completely still. Any player observed by the umpire to move (even slightly) would be required to leave the field for 10 minutes.

I like it in theory but I can see it being abused due to gamesmanship. I do think, however, with the situation last night, players should be able to be charged retroactively for unsporting conduct. Atkins knew what happened, he should be busted.

You’d have to prove he did. Slippery slope, if he argues that he thought he kicked it onto the opponents boot then I’m keen to see someone start punishing players for things they might have seen.

Players have hit the post with a shot for goal, known they have, and got away with it.
Players have dropped marks and claimed them.
Marked a ball clearly over the boundary line and claimed a mark.

Unsporting conduct?

I'm all for it.

If it was in a few years back, Luke Shuey would have won the Coleman given the amount of times our 4 blind mice missed head high tackles on him in front of goals.

Would also have helped Jared Polec if he could have challenged his tackle on our Lukey that cost them an after the siren goal and a final berth the following week.

He would been less distressed knowing almost immediately, that him and Port weren't actually robbed and the correct decision had been made!

Same for Brayden Maynard and Sheed's goal in 2018 ...... a clear decision on no block might have helped him make a better kicking out decision minutes later, when he hit up you know who...... Luke Shuey for game!

Cricklet, Tennis, American Football, Rugby League all have set points where play can be stopped anyway. The next delivery, point, down, tackle, etc.
Australian Football doesn't always have that immediacy. What happens of the team receiving thee free took advantage or played on and the decision was correct (or can't be shown to be incorrect)? The team receiving the free gets penalised for receiving using the free to their best?
After a score or out of bounds works, usually, but not all the others around the ground that can be just as wrong and just as detrimental.

Maybe just make some of the umpires full time? Could put them on a 12 month contract, if you make too many errors, your contract doesn’t get renewed. Make it semi professional.
