DT is this why Roo goes off for the last 7-8 minutes ..to give Reilly a run? Will this time get longer as Roo gets older? I do like the idea of Reilly off the halfback line with the occassional stint in the middle. It must be frustrating/hard to come on ''cold''

didn't seem to be a problem for perrie to come on 'cold' (although I concede it was 3 mins into the game ;) )

The good thing at the moment is that we are having very good performances from all the team so there is no easy solution we can see. We can all say that we would prefer reilly to do the swap off halfback but who does he replace? and does it fit with a match up in the opposition we are playing? If Reilly really wants to make this then he would be making the most of his opportunities that he gets, can we say that he isn't trying when he comes on?

I refuse to take anything Radar says seriously because she is so blinded with Reilly love she refuses to see his shortcomings.

To put this in perspective, Doughty cops a mountain of crap on this board. Reilly is a 4th year player. In his first 4 years, Doughty had produced FAR more, FAR more consistently than Reilly. He was a lower pick, yet has performed markedly better across the same period of his career. Yet Doughty continues to be abused as not performing well enough, yet when Reilly performs even worse he gets an armchair ride from his coterie of supporters on this board.

Please explain this complete hypocrisy before I take any Reilly supporter seriously.

At the moment there is not a spot in the starting 18 for Reilly & he will just have to bide his time until an opportunity presents itself & when it does he better make the most of it.

I still believe there are some (myself included) on this board that do overly criticize players like young Brett & maybe a little patience & understanding should be shown before we stick the knives in too deeply.

this is a poor example, doughty is what 25-26ish while reilly is 21. We need to actually play him in the middle and give him some time. I dont think he is a wingman, especially with he lack of pace. Get him in there he has a mans body now and lets see how he goes. Doughty has been good since his soft collingwood effort, but in terms of what he can offer us in the midfield and the potential development he has, he doesnt really compare to reilly. Personally i wouldnt mind sacrificing the doughty and skippy types and use them for depth really, so we can develop the young guys as this is what has been neglected in the past 5 or so yrs and needs to be fast tracked to make use of roo and co.

Read the paragraph properly before commenting, jack. It is not a 'poor example' at all - I referenced Doughty's FIRST FOUR YEARS as compared to Reilly's. Exactly perfect example.

Reilly should keep his spot, as others have said he just needs a bit of patience and eventually something will happen for him, he'll either take his chance or not, and if not, then you talk about dropping him. If we had shown some patience in the younger guys a bit earlier instead of giving them one week then dropping them for someone else we wouldn't be having this conversation. Probably best off the half-back flank or half-forward at the moment, he is probably the best kick in the team, but doesn't really have the pace to be a wingman IMO. He's probably spending longer on the bench because others have taken their chances when given them this year. It's good for the team to have this competition for spots and a very good sign for the future if they keep playing like this. Reilly potentially has another 10+ years on the list if he can stay patient and wait for his chance, and then grab it when the time arrives.

Skip shouldn't be dropped, by the way. He's playing pretty consistently each week. Was at the Eagles Glenelg game and didn't really see Schuback after about halfway through the second quarter. He just stopped. Didn't really seem interested in getting the ball himself, I think after he kicked a few goals he just expected it to all just happen for him.

I don't think Reilly is such a big issue. Yes he has been a bit disappointing, but he doesn't deserve to be dropped. yet.

As for overall, he hasn't taken that big step up we had hoped, it's not too late either. We need to persist, pure and simple.

If he doesn't make it, we need to be sure it wasn't our fault.

I've always maintained that Reilly isn't the player that many on these boards insist he is, but yes, he has been hurt by a lack of gametime recently. The question is, what has changed since the start of the season that has seen Craig lose faith in him?

While we're seeing his peers - Thompson, Mattner, Skipworth, Rutten, Bock - really step up and take their opportunities by the throat, Radar is still ****ing about looking for the handball receive. It doesn't get any better when you see some of his 2001 first round peers - Judd, Ball, Hodge, Dal Santo - dominating the league at present.

Tradebait with a capital-T.
some good points here DT.......I would love to know why he isn't getting more game time......either he is injured or NC is concerned (as I am)...that Radar's best friend ATM is his mirror....
I've spoken to Radar a few times since he has been at the club.......and each time I've noticed an increasing degree of "aloofness".
I have a concern that his own self belief is detracting from his work ethic.

how can you compare them then>? Doughty was older when he was drafted wasnt he? When you get an older guy you expect the type of improvement that hudson has shown to be called a success. It doesnt make sense what your saying from my point of view.

100% right WW.

It's the old team structure bit etc. The way we are set up in defence and on the wings is working beautifully, which only leaves Reilly a relief mid-fielder's role at the moment.
except.......I would have thought that Reilly would be better at doing Doughty's job than Doughty............so why not bring Doughty on for 5 mins each qtr.....

Doughty had more pace, faster hands and is arguably a better kick than Reilly. These days, he goes in harder at the ball, too.

gotta make way for #18 in a few weeks which will really put the pressure on young Radar....... ;)

how exactly......

mainly cause he does half turns every time we break free into open space. Also, if we want to get a VB or Knights in, then one of these types that are just average will have to go. Skippy is just average, we need the next macca to come through.

If the comments being made in this thread about Reilly were being made about Matthew Smith, then I could give them a lot more credence.

If I hadn't actually seen him play each week, I would have been led to believe that he's been playing 120 minutes every week and limping around kickless like a crippled duck.

One thing to bear in mind for all the Reilly critics, is that he was drafted as a specialist wingman - not an on-baller. He played his junior footy as a wingman. He's learning the on-ball game at this level, as he will be required to be part of the next generation of mid-fielders once we lose Roo, Macca, Edwards and Goody down the track.

Which on-baller not currently in the Crows side is going to play better than him?? Bode, Ladhams, Schuback? I think not.

Reilly should be dropped, Perrie should be dropped, Skippy should be dropped, Shirley should be dropped. Doughty should be dropped. McLeod should be dropped. Biglands should be dropped. Jericho should be dropped. Burton should be dropped. McGregor should be dropped.

Just to mention a few that have been in this category this year.

How the fk have we ever won a game?

Alright, so your suggesting we drop 10 players this week. Gee Mac, the lengths you will go too to get Smithies name on the team sheet.

If only that hack Ricciuto would step aside and let Brent do his thing...

Wasted sarcasm DT.

I haven't said that he should take Roo's time from him.

Just asking for more objective comments on a player who's currently getting limited game time and performing far better than he's being made out to be.
