I think this week we should make some hard decisions and add a little spice to the game this week.
Here are my thoughts on this weeks team:

IN: Archer, Simpson, Harris, D. Motlop
OUT: Stevo, Clayton, Teague, Jones.

The reasons are as follows :
Archer, Simpson for Jones and Stevo - No need to go into detail, Jones probably not quite there.
- Harris in for Clayton - Clayton has had 6 weeks of pretty poor form. Time to make a hard decision. Harris is chosen as we need a centre square player to replace Stevo.
- D. Motlop in for Teague - I would like to get rid of Cochrane but no. This is the risky one. I believe with Stevo out, we need Byron up the ground a little more often. So we need another forward option. Winston and Leigh Harding are the other options. Winnie may be a little out of fitness (not sure didn't see him on weekend). Harding would be good due to midfield prescence as well but chose Motlop due to being freakish, thats all. We need one of them, need a spark, try anything.
So here it is :
B: Archer Watt Makepeace
HB: Blakey McCartney Colbert
C: King Simpson Rawlings
HF: Pickett Carey S.Motlop
F: McKernan Rocca Harris
FOLL: Burton Grant Harvey
I/C: D. Motlop, Martyn, Sinclair, Cochrane.

Petrie in if Burton rubbed out.

No way I'd use Daniel Motlop. Poor little bugger would get killed. Essendon are a very physical side, and Junior isn't physically anywhere near ready at the moment.

I was saying to Shinners on Sunday that Daniel Pratt could be a smokey, especially with Stevens' absence creating another vacancy. Pratt is physically developed, and plays "older" than 18. Other candidates could be experienced (although possibly underdone) guys like Abraham and Olarenshaw.

Petrie is the logical replacement for Burton, but the big Spider couldn't possibly get done for striking, could he? Didn't look to be anythign in the incident at all.

History tells us, that even when we are losing, there are very few changes, and the selections are generally conservative. I expect this to be the case again, which could cost one of the young guys like Harris or Pratt an opportunity. This is not a selection panel that goes for surprises or youth - the young sides of the first few rounds were borne of necessity through an injury-ravaged list.

Clayton should get the flick this week but Cochrane's height and deceptive pace may be useful, and he might get the job on Jason Johnson in Stevens' absence.

B : Watt, Martyn, Motlop
HB : Blakey, McCartney, Colbert
C : Sinclair, Makepeace, Grant
HF : King, Carey, Rocca
F : Archer, McKernan, Pickett
R : Burton, Simpson, Harvey
IC : Harris, Cochrane, Rawlings, Jones

IN : Harris, Archer, Simpson. Pratt is a smokey.
OUT : Stevens (inj), Teague, Clayton

Teague hardly got any game time on Sunday, but I'd take the risk and leave him in the team. When he has been on the field, he's never been far away from the play and has been doing the one percenters. He could be very useful as a tagger.

Agree with Darky in that Daniel Motlop should not be given a debut against Essendon. He should be given a run in a game this year just to give him a taste of senior footy, but not against the Dons....we need our match hardened and physically strong/aggressive players against them.

One of the most important match ups will be who we put onto Joe Misiti...the Essendon centreman has killed us in the last 4 games he's played against us. I'd be inclined to give Troy Makepeace first crack. Misiti isn't overly fast, but he gets the ball and delivers quickly, and Makepeace is disciplined enough to make sure that he stays inbetween Misiti and the ball.

I don't think we can play a game to restrict Essendon, so if we accept that the Bombers will get 20 goals, we have to get 21. Use the three tall forwards in Carey, McKernan, and Rocca...make sure there are crumbers around and give Grant, Harvey, and King the license to attack.

Didn't you bag me for pre-empting exactly the same match-up yesterday?

Did I? If I did, it was only because I didn't know the extent of Steven's injury and Stevo was my first choice for the job on Misiti.

Besides, I think using the term "bag me" is a bit harsh....I was merely questioning your judgement on the matter. :D

Understood (phew!).

For the record, had Stevens been available for the upcoming match, I would have assigned him to Jason Johnson, with the Makepeace-Misiti duel remaining intact.

Teaguey must stay he has not done anything wrong. To even suggest that D.Mottlopp could only mean you have not seen this guy play he will be good but at the moment he has the build of a Kenyan long distance runner. He will turn it on dont worry but to put him in this week is just being plain silly. The Skull is going well at the moment and this week we will see something special from him. Hardo is in my opinion the only one not on the list that should be but how many midfielders do we need on our list?

Go the Skull !!!
